Planning your Fiji honeymoon can be tough. Let’s face it, your honeymoon is important and if you’re spending all that time and money to go to Fiji, you want it to be good! Romantic, fun, relaxing, and picture-perfect beautiful.
After the wedding, planning your honeymoon is the next most important thing.
This is why I wrote this blog. After traveling Fiji extensively (and planning our own wedding there), Dan and I know what is important when planning your honeymoon in Fiji. Of course, choosing the perfect honeymoon resort in Fiji is super important, but there are a few other things to consider too.
Here you will find information about why choosing the area in which you stay is important, the best honeymoon resorts in Fiji, romantic things to do and see, and so much more! It’s your ULTIMATE guide to planning your very own Fiji honeymoon!
Where to Stay for your Fiji Honeymoon
Choosing the best area to stay in Fiji is important. It’s so much more than just picking a nice hotel.
Although a small island nation, Fiji isn’t all that small when it comes to getting around on a short honeymoon. Between traffic on the main island and limited ferries to get out to the smaller islands, it is vital that you book a hotel in the area in which you plan to spend the most time.
For this reason, I have selected the best areas to stay in Fiji for anybody visiting on their honeymoon. These are the areas with the best beaches and the most romantic honeymoon resorts that are perfect for couples. These areas are all also fairly easy to get to, meaning you won’t spend an entire day on a boat just getting there.
My best advice for deciding where to stay in Fiji would be to decide on an area to stay first, and then choose a resort in that location. Once you’ve decided where in Fiji exactly you want to base yourself, then it is time to pick your perfect Fiji honeymoon resort!
Yasawa Islands
The Yasawa Islands are made up of a total of 20 pristine islands. They are located Northwest of Viti Levu and easily reached riding the Yasawa Flyer catamaran. From Port Denarau, you can expect the ride to take anywhere from 2.5-4.5 hours depending on where you choose to stay.
I have a guide on some of the best island resorts located in the Yasawa Islands complete with plenty of pools, activities, and restaurants. Some of the resorts are located on their own private island – perfect for a relaxing honeymoon in Fiji if you ask me!
One thing to note about staying on remote islands is that you will be confined mostly to the island. You’ll have to eat at your resort restaurant and keep yourself busy with the activities they offer. This is perfect for anybody going to Fiji for a relaxing honeymoon but probably wouldn’t suit those who like to stay busy and explore. This is also true for the Mamanuca Islands (next in this blog.)
Mamanuca Islands
The Mamanuca Islands are one of the most popular areas to stay in Fiji. They are a beautiful isolated group of islands that’s easily reached on a day trip from Port Denarau. Most resorts can be reached in about a 2-hour or so ferry or boat ride.
You might recognize these islands from the reality TV series Survivor, or the movie Castaway that stars Tom Hanks. These islands are so beautiful they really are what you see on TV!
There are a few great resorts to choose from on the Mamanuca Islands (more on them below.) One of the best things about staying on the Mamanuca Islands is the close proximity to Port Denarau. So, if you’re worried about getting bored at an island resort for your entire honeymoon, then you could mix a couple of night stay on the Mamanuca Islands with a couple of nights in Denarau.
Coral Coast
The Coral Coast is an area located just over an hour’s drive from Nadi. Here, you will find nice beaches and various resorts offering an island vibe without actually having to get on a boat or drive too far!
The resorts here are reasonably priced and huge – probably the best bang for your buck when it comes to resorts in Fiji! You can easily walk or take a taxi to nearby restaurants if you don’t want to be confined to the resort.
The beaches are great for snorkeling, but they aren’t pristine like you’d probably imagine in Fiji as they are usually pretty full of coral (hence the name, “Coral Coast.) However, if you aren’t planning on spending a ton of time in the ocean then this shouldn’t be a big deciding factor for you.
Denarau
Denarau is only a few minutes’ drive from the Nadi airport and is centered around the main port. Port Denarau is where all of the ferries to the outer islands depart as well as many day excursions like taking a trip to the floating Seventh Heaven Fiji. It is very easy to book day trips out on the water from Denarau, which is handy since the beaches around Denarau aren’t anything to get excited about.
Denarau is a very touristy area composed of resorts, restaurants, and shops all aimed at tourists. Therefore, out of all of the areas to stay in Fiji, there is the biggest selection of very nice hotels and resorts in Denarau.
For people looking for pure luxury, you’ll love Denarau! Since it is located on the main island of Viti Levu, there are no “small island resort sacrifices” to be made. You’ll have access to WiFi, plenty of delicious restaurants, air conditioning, day spas, shopping, and so much more.
Nadi
You will likely fly into the Nadi airport which makes Nadi the easiest place to stay. Nadi is a city of about 42,000 people on Fiji’s largest main island of Viti Levu. It sits on the coast and many hotels are located here.
Nadi offers a city-vibe mixed with a beach-vibe making it a good combination for a place to stay. Nadi is also the most budget-friendly area in Fiji in terms of accommodation, however, there isn’t much for beautiful honeymoon resorts to choose from.
To stay at a nice resort in Nadi you’ll have to go a few minutes outside of the city. You won’t get the gorgeous beaches you expect in Fiji here, but you will get a great value hotel with an ideal location for accessing all of the fun things to do in Nadi, as well as Port Denarau for island day trips.
Can’t decide on just one area to stay in Fiji? Then stay at two! Move once during your Fiji honeymoon to switch it up a little and keep things interesting. I would recommend spending a few days on one of the remote islands (Yasawa or Mamanuca) and then the remainder of your time on Viti Levu. This way, you can enjoy island life as well as plenty of other fun and adventurous things to do in Fiji!
Island Hopping for your Fiji Honeymoon
Can’t decide which island to visit for your honeymoon in Fiji? Well, then you should consider island hopping!
Island hopping means you will bounce around between different islands during your holiday, this way, you’ll be able to see and do so much more!
There are two different ways you can organize island hopping: 1) book a hop-on hop-off pass with South Sea Cruises and prearrange your accommodation on the islands you want to visit, or 2) go on an organized cruise.
Organized cruises are great because you don’t need to do any planning. There are a few different types of cruises you can choose from, some of the most popular options include:
- 7 Night Cruise – This is a cruise ship where you’ll sleep on the ship and explore different islands during the days. All meals are included and the ship even has a pool! You’ll get to explore both the Yasawa Islands and Mamanuca Islands with plenty of activities to keep everyone (even kids busy.) Expect to pay over $2000 USD per person for this 8-day experience.
- 4 Night Cruise – This is a also a cruise ship experience, just a little bit shorter and cheaper. It also includes meals and plenty of fun activites during the day. Since it is only 4 nights, this is the perfect option for anybody who wants to experience lots in a short amount of time. Expect to pay around $1200 USD for this experience.
- 7 Night Tour – This is an organized “tour” where they prearrange accommodation on various islands for you, and also supply the transport between the islands. It also includes a ton of fun activities like Malamala Beach Club, hiking, snorkeling, caves, and more. Meals are not included in this tour, but it comes in pretty reasonably priced at under $800 USD per person.

Here, you’ll find 4 restaurants, a pool, and an endless list of free activities to keep you busy all day long. You can also take advantage of the tennis court, pool bar, and day spa.
Castaway Island Resort is one of the easiest resorts to get to, in fact, many guests skip the boat ride altogether and opt for the short (but scenic) flight. From the Nadi airport, you can get to Castaway Island in only 15 minutes on a flight. If you want to take a boat, South Sea Cruises has a catamaran that departs daily.
One thing to note for your Fiji honeymoon is that this resort is family-friendly and does have a kids club. So if you’re looking for an adults-only resort this is not the one for you.
Castaway Island Resort isn’t cheap either, and you can expect to pay upwards of $1000 FJD per night for a bure. But trust me, this luxury resort is well worth the price tag and there are few places to stay in Fiji as beautiful as this.

You can reach the Beachcomber Resort from Port Denarau riding the Yasawa Flyer ferry. The ride should take about 2 hours and costs $119 FJD each way.

With that said, Beachcomber Island Resort is located within a marine sanctuary, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling or diving. It’s a large resort and with the appeal to many budgets, you’re never going to get bored here. There’s plenty to do and lots of people to meet.

Romantic Things to do for your Fiji Honeymoon
Sunset Dinner Cruise
From Port Denarau, you can enjoy a beautiful sunset dinner cruise. Not only are these cruises super affordable considering they include dinner, but they are a romantic way to spend a couple of hours in the evening on your Fiji honeymoon.
Oftentimes in Fiji, your days will be full of beaches and activities, and then you’ll have nothing to do at night. This sunset cruise is the perfect way to enjoy an evening once the sun starts to go down!
It is the best seat in the house to enjoy a beautiful sunset!
Fire Dancer Show
A traditional way of dancing in Fiji is with fire! Fire dancers in Fiji are very talented and put on a unique show right in front of your eyes as they spin poles lit with fire.
If you want to see a fire show, you can go to a paid show such as one at the Fiji Culture Village, or you can try and catch a free one in a bar or restaurant. Just be aware, not all fire dancers are as talented as the next. If you want to see the really impressive ones, then I recommend going with the paid tour experience!
When I was last in Fiji I went to the Fiji Culture Village and loved it!
Enjoy many sunsets
Fiji has some incredible sunsets. You simply couldn’t visit Fiji and not enjoy multiple sunsets over the water. Grab a hammock or a cocktail (or both) and enjoy the show from just about any beach in Fiji.
If you’re staying in Nadi or Denarau, then head to the nearby Wailoaloa Beach one evening to watch the sunset. Here, you can actually visit a rooftop bar on top of the Ramada hotel that is actually open to the public! Club 57 & Bistro offers some of the best views in all of Nadi.
From this rooftop bar, you’ll have the best seat in the house during sunset. You’ll get to see the entire coastline. And the best part? They have a daily happy hour right when the sunsets – bonus!
But the truth is, no matter where you enjoy the sunset, be sure to do so! I watched the sunset every single night while I was in Fiji and they never disappointed!
If you are an early riser, checking the sunrise too is a great idea!
Visiting Malamala Beach Club
If you’re staying on Viti Levu, then a great day trip is out to Malamala Beach Club. This beach club is located on a pristine private island complete with its own infinity pool. You’ll need to book this specific full-day tour to get here and then get ready to spend an entire day on a private island in Fiji – sounds dreamy right?
We’ve been here several times and I never want to leave at the end of the day! Luckily, you get a beautiful Fiji sunset on the boat ride back that helps make up for it. Tickets for the Malamala Beach Club are available online and I highly recommend it!
Skydiving
Okay, so this one might sound a little strange as a honeymoon suggestion, but the truth is that Dan and I have been skydiving twice before together, and nothing brings a couple closer together than a little adrenaline. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you’ll remember forever – and when better to do it than on your honeymoon?!
The thing I love most about skydiving is that it is a scenic flight experience and thrill activity all in one!
The truth is, if you’ve never been skydiving before then maybe it is time you do so! Sure, it sounds scary, but it’s totally worth it!
Skydiving in Fiji isn’t cheap though and you can expect to pay over $200 USD for a jump. You can choose between a 12,000 ft drop and a 14,000 ft drop, with the latter being the most expensive. The plane departs from Nadi, so this is another great activity if you’re staying in and around Nadi and Denarau.
Snorkeling
Fiji is surrounded by vibrant coral reefs full of fish that you see on a snorkeling tour. While you can go snorkeling on your own from various hotels around Fiji, sometimes it can be hard to know where to go (especially if you’re staying on the main island of Viti Levu). I suggest opting for one of the best tours in Fiji and joining a snorkeling trip.
Most cruise and snorkel day trips depart from Port Denarau (only a few minutes from Nadi), but some will even pick you up from your hotel in and around Nadi. A day trip from Nadi to the Mamanuca Islands on this sailboat is very popular. Visiting the Yasawa Islands is also popular, but more commonly done on overnight cruises due to the longer distance from Viti Levu.
If you ask me, snorkeling is one of the must-do bucket list activities in Fiji.
