Where to Stay on Koh Lanta Map
Overview of the Best Areas to Stay on Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta is a long, laid-back island with a string of beach communities running down its west coast.
Once you’ve chosen an area to stay, you can usually walk to the beach, restaurants, and nearby shops. However, Koh Lanta isn’t really an island you can explore entirely on foot. You’ll still need a taxi, hotel transfer, or rental vehicle to travel between the different beach communities.
Most passenger ferries arrive at Saladan Pier in the north, so hotel transfer times get longer the farther south you stay. The roads also become quieter and hillier in the south, so this isn’t the best place to get on a scooter for the first time!
Koh Lanta is busiest from November through April. If you’re visiting over Christmas or New Year, make sure to book as early as you can because the most popular beachfront resorts fill up pretty quickly.
Prices tend to drop during the quieter, wetter months. However, some resorts, restaurants, ferries, and boat tours operate on reduced schedules or close for the season, so bear that in mind when planning your trip.
Before we get into the details of each area, here’s a quick overview:
- Long Beach – Best for first-time visitors – Long Beach is our favorite all-around base, thanks to its beautiful stretch of sand, great restaurants, and central location. Siri Lanta Resort is our top pick, with leafy grounds, an outdoor pool, and the beach just a short walk away.
- Klong Dao and Saladan – Best for families and ferry links – Staying in the north puts you close to Saladan Pier, everyday conveniences, and the calm, gently sloping shores of Klong Dao Beach. Southern Lanta Resort is ideal for families, with spacious rooms, multiple pools, and a fantastic beachfront location.
- Klong Khong Beach – Best for budget travelers and laid-back nightlife – Klong Khong has a fun, easygoing atmosphere, with affordable bungalows and colorful beach bars lining the shore. Lanta Riviera Beach Resort gives you a beachfront pool and plenty of room options without the luxury price tag.
- Klong Nin and Klong Tob – Best for couples and a relaxing beach stay – This part of the island feels calmer and a little more romantic, with a lovely swimming beach and plenty of places to watch the sunset over dinner. Our top choice is Moonlight Bay Resort, a peaceful waterfront retreat with its own pool.
- Kantiang Bay and the southern beaches – Best for luxury and seclusion – Head south for jungle-backed coves, fewer crowds, and some of Koh Lanta’s most beautiful scenery. Our top pick here is Anda Lanta Resort, right beside peaceful Klong Jark Beach, with a pool, spa, and lush tropical gardens.
Important Tip
Multiple Koh Lanta trips have taught us that this island doesn’t reward spontaneity when it comes to planning. The good places get snapped up months in advance, leaving the overpriced and underwhelming options for last-minute travelers.
The sweet spot for booking Koh Lanta accommodations is 3-4 months out—enough time to secure good rates but not so far ahead that you’re locking in plans excessively early.
Where to Stay on Koh Lanta
Long Beach

BEST FOR FIRST-TIME VISITORS
Pros
- Excellent balance of beach time, restaurants, bars, and accommodation choices
- Convenient position between Saladan and the quieter southern half of the island
- Long sandy shoreline with plenty of room to spread out
Cons
- The beach is several kilometers long, so not every hotel is near the main dining clusters
- Popular sections feel busy during the high season
If it’s your first time on Koh Lanta and you’re not sure where to stay, we recommend staying in Long Beach (also known as Phra Ae). The beach is wide and sandy, with plenty of restaurants, sunset bars, minimarts, and massage shops nearby.
One thing to keep in mind is that Long Beach really does live up to its name! With so much space, it’s usually easy to find a quieter patch of sand. However, staying at one end of the beach could put you farther from certain restaurants and shops than you expect. Before booking a hotel, always check the exact location on the map rather than assuming everything listed in Long Beach is close together.
Another thing we love about Long Beach is that it offers a good starting point for exploring. It sits south of Klong Dao and Saladan, so the transfer from the ferry pier is still manageable, while Klong Khong and Klong Nin are easier to reach than they would be from farther north.
All in all, Long Beach offers a decent balance of beach time, restaurants, and easy access to more of the island. There’s enough going on to keep things convenient, but the area doesn’t feel like a busy party resort.
Lanta Sand Resort & Spa – $$$

For our top luxury pick on Long Beach, it has to be Lanta Sand Resort & Spa! This beachfront resort has several swimming pools, including separate family and adults-only areas, plus a spa, kids’ club, and beachfront dining.
Accommodation includes stylish hotel rooms and spacious villas, and some villas even have their own private plunge pool (the dream!). Even better, you can walk to Long Beach’s restaurants or hop in a taxi to reach Saladan, so you won’t have to spend your entire stay on the resort.
Rates typically range from $120–$600+ USD per night. Definitely a bit of a splurge, but definitely worth it!
For an adults-only splurge on Long Beach, we also recommend Layana Resort & Spa. This resort is perfect for honeymoons and anniversary trips with its luxurious spa and absolutely stunning infinity pool overlooking the sea.
Siri Lanta Resort – $$

Next up is our top overall recommendation on Long Beach, Siri Lanta Resort. We love this hotel because it’s surrounded by lush tropical gardens, so it feels like a peaceful jungle hideaway. Most rooms here have a private balcony or terrace, and you’ll also have access to a gorgeous pool and shared lounge!
As for pricing, you can expect to pay a very reasonable $55–$200+ USD per night depending on the season and room type.
If you’d like to be closer to the beach, Lanta Casuarina Beach Resort is a fantastic alternative. The view from the pool here is absolutely stunning, and you’ll have plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance.
For something a little more intimate, we’d also check out Treeya Lanta. This smaller boutique-style property has bright, modern rooms and a gorgeous outdoor pool, all within easy reach of Long Beach.
Lanta Pearl Beach Resort – $

For our budget-friendly pick, we love Lanta Pearl Beach Resort. This resort has the cutest bungalows within walking distance of the beach. There’s also an outdoor pool, restaurant, and bar on-site, plus lots of other dining options nearby.
The rooms are comfortable rather than flashy, but if you plan to spend most of your time at the beach anyway, we think they fit the bill perfectly! You can expect prices here to typically range from $40–$140+ USD per night, which is such a steal considering the location.
If you can stretch your budget a little further, Lanta Castaway Beach Resort is another option. This hotel is literally right on the beach and has a lovely bar and restaurant on-site.
Sayang Beach Resort is also worth checking out. We love the traditional-style bungalows here, and the resort also offers free daily transfers to Saladan Village and the pier, which is super handy.
Klong Dao and Saladan

BEST FOR FAMILIES AND FERRY LINKS
Pros
- Short transfer from Saladan Pier and easy access to shops, banks, and services
- Wide, gently sloping beach perfect for families
- Plenty of restaurants and family-oriented resorts
Cons
- Busier and more developed than the beaches farther south
- Less secluded atmosphere, especially around the main road
Klong Dao is one of the easiest places to stay on Koh Lanta, especially if you’re traveling as a family. This wide bay has soft sand and shallow water, making it a popular choice for families with younger children. You’ll also have plenty of restaurants, minimarts, tour desks, and other useful services close by.
Just north of the beach is Saladan, the island’s main arrival point. Most passenger ferries dock here, so staying nearby makes arrival and departure days much easier, especially if you’re traveling with children or carrying lots of luggage. Saladan is also home to shops, banks, seafood restaurants, and plenty of taxis, so everything you could ever need will be within easy reach.
The main downside is that this part of Koh Lanta feels more developed than quieter areas such as Klong Nin and Kantiang Bay. Traffic along the main road can also make it feel a little less peaceful. In return, though, you’ll have almost everything you need nearby and won’t have to spend as long traveling from the ferry pier.
All in all, Klong Dao is ideal if you want to stay near the ferry pier without giving up easy access to the beach, making it especially well-suited to families, short visits, and island-hopping trips.
Avani+ Koh Lanta Krabi Resort – $$$

For our top luxury pick in northern Koh Lanta, we recommend Avani+ Koh Lanta Krabi Resort. It’s set on a private peninsula near Saladan, so it feels nice and secluded even though the pier and town are still close by.
As a guest, you’ll have access to a private beach. There are also two shared pools, a fitness center and spa, and some seriously dreamy villas with private pools. As for pricing, you can expect rates to typically fall between $200–$500+ USD per night.
Twin Bay Resort Koh Lanta is another beachfront option at the quieter northern end of Klong Dao. The vibe here is super laid-back, making it a great choice when you want to stay near Saladan without being right in the middle of the action.
We also really love Costa Lanta. This is an adults-only resort with minimalist rooms, on-site snorkeling and kayaking, and a beachfront bar.
Southern Lanta Resort – $$

Next up is Southern Lanta Resort. This gorgeous resort sits directly on Klong Dao Beach, so lazy beach days couldn’t be easier!
You can also cool off in the pool, grab a bite at the on-site restaurant, or let the kids burn off some energy in the play area. The resort even offers free round-trip transfers to Saladan Pier, which is always appreciated.
Nightly rates typically fall between $50–$230+ USD, which is very reasonable considering the location and facilities.
Lanta Island Resort is another beachfront option, with bungalows scattered throughout tropical gardens. The property is a little older, but the lovely sea views and delicious breakfast give it plenty of charm.
Nearby, Golden Bay Cottage also offers a collection of cozy cottages beside Klong Dao Beach. The sea-facing pool is a definite highlight here, and Saladan is only a short drive away.
D.R. Lanta Bay Resort – $

Last but not least, D.R. Lanta Bay Resort is our top budget-friendly pick near Saladan. It sits right beside Klong Dao Beach, so you can eat breakfast by the sea and walk straight onto the sand without paying luxury-resort prices.
This resort has two outdoor pools (such a plus at this price point!) along with family rooms, a restaurant, and plenty of open space. The rooms here are fairly simple and vary in style, but the convenient location more than makes up for it.
In terms of pricing, you can expect rooms to typically cost between $90–$150 USD per night.
Klongdao Sunset Villa is another affordable option just steps from the beach. It has an intimate, relaxed atmosphere that’s perfect if you prefer smaller properties over large resorts.
If you need another backup, Lanta For Rest Boutique is also worth checking out. It isn’t right on the beach, but it’s within easy walking distance, and you’ll have plenty of shops, restaurants, and convenience stores nearby.

Klong Khong Beach

BEST FOR BUDGET TRAVELERS AND LAID-BACK NIGHTLIFE
Pros
- Wide choice of inexpensive bungalows, casual restaurants, and beach bars
- Sociable evening atmosphere without the intensity of a major party island
- Central position for exploring northern and southern Koh Lanta
Cons
- Rocks exposed at low tide can make swimming difficult
- Some beachfront bars play music late into the evening
Klong Khong is one of Koh Lanta’s most easygoing areas. Here, you’ll find affordable bungalows, casual beachfront restaurants, and bars where travelers gather to watch the sunset.
The area is especially popular with backpackers, younger travelers, and anyone who enjoys a lively evening without wanting to stay in a full-on party destination. You’ll find plenty of Thai and international restaurants, along with live music and fire shows during the busier months. Klong Khong also has a convenient central location, making it relatively easy to explore both the north and south of the island.
The main trade-off is the beach. It looks beautiful at high tide, but rocky sections appear as the water goes out, so swimming isn’t as reliable as it is at Long Beach or Klong Nin. If you plan to swim every day, make sure to check the tide times and consider booking a hotel with a pool.
In our opinion, Klong Khong tends to work best for budget travelers, solo visitors, and couples who want relaxed days followed by sociable evenings. Just make sure to stay a little farther from the main bars if you’re a light sleeper!
Baan Thai Lanta Resort – $$$

Baan Thai Lanta Resort offers traditional Thai-style villas centered around tropical gardens and a swimming pool, making the entire property feel like a private little hideaway. Some of the villas even have a kitchenette and bonus living space, which is super convenient if you’re planning a longer stay.
As for pricing, you can expect rates here to typically fall between $150–$300+ USD per night depending on the season and room type.
If Baan Thai Lanta is fully booked, Pinky Bungalows Resort & Villa is a fantastic alternative that’s usually easier on the budget. We love this resort because each villa has its own private patio, and it’s also within easy walking distance of several local bars and restaurants.
Lanta Riviera Beach Resort – $$

Next we have Lanta Riviera Beach Resort. We love this resort because there are several different types of rooms to choose from, along with an on-site restaurant, bar, massage services, and tour desk. The pool even has its own water slide, which is so fun!
Before you book, know that the neighborhood can get lively in the evening, but that’s all part of Klong Khong’s charm! Prices usually sit between $60–$140 USD per night, which is very reasonable for Klong Khong.
If the Lanta Riviera Beach Resort is all booked up on your preferred dates, the Wings Boutique Hotels is another great option. The rooms here are more modern, and because the hotel sits further inland, it’s usually a bit quieter compared to the hotels closer to the beachfront.
If you’d rather stay directly on the beach, the Lazy Lodge is definitely worth checking out. The bungalows here are super stylish, and the gardens are easily among the most beautiful on this list.
Lanta Fa Rung Beach Resort – $

For something a little more budget-friendly, check out Lanta Fa Rung Beach Resort. The bungalows here are super cute and right on the beach, so you’ll get the classic Thai island experience without the resort price tag!
Before you book, know that some bungalows have fans, while others include air conditioning, so make sure to check the details before making your final booking. Price-wise, you can expect rooms to typically cost between $25–$100 USD per night.
Another budget-friendly option we love is Coco Lanta Resort. This is a lovely beachfront property with an outdoor pool, on-site restaurant, and massage service.
Hatzanda Lanta Resort is also worth a look. It’s not directly on Klong Khong Beach, but it’s still an easy walk away, with lots of places to eat and drink close by.
Klong Nin and Klong Tob

BEST FOR COUPLES AND A RELAXING BEACH STAY
Pros
- Attractive swimming beach with sunset restaurants directly on the sand
- Broad choice of boutique stays and larger resorts
- Calmer atmosphere than the northern beaches
Cons
- Longer transfer to Saladan Pier
- Fewer shops and transport options than in the north
If you want a relaxing beach stay without feeling completely cut off, Klong Nin is definitely worth a look. Its long, sandy beach is generally better for swimming than Klong Khong, and you’ll find plenty of casual restaurants where you can have dinner beside the water.
Nearby Klong Tob is a bit quieter and has several larger resorts. Together, the two areas work especially well for couples and travelers who want to spend most of their trip swimming, sunbathing, and taking things slowly without staying in Koh Lanta’s more remote south.
Around Klong Nin, you can usually walk between your hotel, restaurants, massage shops, and minimarts. However, trips to Saladan and the northern beaches take longer, so leave plenty of time when catching a ferry. On the plus side, you’ll be well placed for trips to Lanta Old Town on the east coast and Mu Ko Lanta National Park in the south.
This area may be a little too quiet if you want lively nightlife every evening, but for many travelers, that’s part of the appeal. It’s a great place to slow down while still having restaurants, shops, and day trips within easy reach.
Rawi Warin Resort and Spa – $$$

For our luxury pick near Klong Nin, we cannot recommend Rawi Warin Resort and Spa enough! This large hillside resort overlooks Klong Tob Bay and has four outdoor pools, five restaurants, sports facilities, a spa, and lots of activities for children.
The rooms and villas are spread throughout the gardens, with some offering excellent sea views. The grounds are steep in places, so it’s worth requesting a room near the main facilities if you’d prefer to limit the uphill walking.
In terms of pricing, you can expect rooms to range between $160–$500+ USD per night.
If the Rawi Warin Resort is all booked up, Nirvana Beach Resort is an excellent alternative. The rooms and grounds here are jaw-droppingly stunning, and the on-site restaurant serves up some seriously delicious Western and Asian dishes.
Lanta Palace Beach Resort & Spa is another option that we like to recommend for couples. This is an adults-only resort with stylish rooms, a beachfront pool, and plenty of space to relax beside the water.
Moonlight Bay Resort – $$

For our mid-range pick near Klong Nin, we absolutely love Moonlight Bay Resort. This resort sits beside Klong Tob Bay, and the sunset views from the terrace here are nothing short of spectacular.
The property has just 18 rooms and 26 villas, so it feels much more intimate than a large resort. There are also two private beaches, a swimming pool, and electric caddies to take you to your villa, which is such a nice touch!
You can expect nightly rates to typically fall between $125–$200+ USD, which is such a steal for a property this stunning.
We also really love Beach Home Lanta. It doesn’t have lots of flashy facilities, but you’ll be staying directly on Klong Nin Beach, so you won’t have to go far for a swim or sunset stroll.
Andalay Boutique Resort is also worth checking out. The rooms here are a bit more modern, and the infinity pool overlooking the sea is reason enough to add this hotel to your shortlist!
Lanta Miami Resort – $

For our budget-friendly pick on Klong Nin Beach, we always recommend Lanta Miami Resort. This property has a mix of beachfront bungalows and hotel rooms, so you have plenty of choice when it comes to space, location, and price.
We also love this resort because there’s plenty to keep you busy, including water sports facilities, a children’s play area, and a beach bar serving up delicious cocktails. Price-wise, you can expect rates to typically sit between $40–$140 USD per night, depending on the room and season.
Another reasonably priced beachfront stay is Lanta IL Mare Beach Resort. Families are well catered for here, with larger room options and a pool overlooking Klong Nin Beach.
Peace Paradise Beach is also worth adding to your shortlist. You’ll get a spacious room, access to an outdoor pool, and plenty of nearby choices when you want to head out for dinner or drinks.
Kantiang Bay and the Southern Beaches

BEST FOR LUXURY AND SECLUSION
Pros
- Dramatic jungle-backed bays and some of Koh Lanta’s most peaceful beaches
- Excellent luxury resorts and romantic hideaways
- Close to Mu Ko Lanta National Park, Klong Jark, and Bamboo Beach
Cons
- Longer transfers from Saladan Pier and fewer everyday services
- Southern roads are steep and challenging for inexperienced scooter riders
If you want a quieter, more secluded stay, we recommend heading to southern Koh Lanta.
There are a few different options here, depending on how far you want to be from everyday amenities. Kantiang Bay has a small village with restaurants and shops. However, the island does become much less developed as you continue toward Klong Jark and Bamboo Beach, where you’ll find just a handful of resorts.
The best part about staying in the south is that you’ll be immersed in one of Koh Lanta’s most scenic areas. You’ll be close to Mu Ko Lanta National Park, coastal viewpoints, and waterfall trails when weather conditions allow. Many resorts take full advantage of the surroundings, with hillside pools, sea views, and tropical gardens leading toward the beach.
Before you book, know that staying this far south takes a little planning. Transfers from Saladan are longer and more expensive, while dining options become limited once you leave Kantiang village. You’ll probably find yourself relying on your hotel’s restaurant or shuttle service, and renting a scooter is another option (but the roads are steep and winding).
All in all, if you want to feel like you can properly switch off for a few days, Koh Lanta’s south is without a doubt worth the effort!
The Houben – $$$

If you’re looking to treat yourself in Kantiang Bay, the Houben should definitely be on your radar. This is an adults-only hotel that sits high above the sea, and its bright red infinity pool is one of the coolest we’ve ever seen!
Here, you’ll find spacious, modern rooms with large windows, and many include private balconies overlooking the water. There’s also an on-site restaurant, gym, and spa treatments available, while Kantiang village and beach are close by. In terms of pricing, you can expect rates to sit between $280–$400 USD per night.
If you’d rather stay closer to the water, Vacation Village Phra Nang Lanta is a fabulous alternative on Kantiang Beach. It has a swimming pool and restaurant, so you’ll have everything you need for a relaxing stay.
Anda Lanta Resort – $$

Anda Lanta Resort is a laid-back resort that sits right beside Klong Jark Beach.
Along with a gorgeous pool and garden area, you’ll also have access to a spa, restaurant, and water sports equipment, so there’s plenty to do without leaving the property. The secluded location is a big part of the appeal here, although you’ll need to rely on on-site dining and arranged transportation if you’re traveling without a car.
Rooms generally cost between $100–$240+ USD per night, which we think is a great price for such a peaceful beachfront stay.
If you’d like to stay closer to Kantiang’s restaurants, Alama Sea Village Resort and Pool Villa is a fantastic alternative. The hillside views are gorgeous, and the larger villas are a great option for families and small groups.
If a simple bungalow near the beach is all you need, Klong Jark Bungalows could be a great fit. It’s surrounded by greenery and offers a secluded base within easy reach of Klong Jark Beach.
Bakantiang Resort – $

Last but not least, Bakantiang Resort is our top choice for anyone visiting southern Koh Lanta on a budget. We love this resort because it sits on a leafy hillside above the Kantiang area, and it has an outdoor pool where you can cool off after a day of exploring.
Rooms are fairly simple, but they’re air-conditioned and have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Kantiang’s restaurants, shops, and everyday amenities are also close by, so you won’t have to travel far for dinner or essentials.
As for pricing, you can expect rates to typically fall between a very reasonable $45–$175+ USD per night.
Phuchawee Lanta is another affordable option in the Kantiang area. The rooms here are pretty spacious and perfect for groups, families, and longer stays.

Top Activities on Koh Lanta

Finding the right beach is only the start! Koh Lanta is also a fantastic base for snorkeling, scuba diving, and getting to know southern Thai food.
If you’re planning your itinerary, here are three of our favorite activities on Koh Lanta:
- Go snorkeling around Koh Rok – If you want to explore beyond Koh Lanta, this full-day snorkeling adventure takes you to the clear waters and bright beaches of the Koh Rok islands. You’ll spend the day visiting snorkeling spots and looking for marine life, with transportation and the main logistics handled for you.
- Learn how to cook Thai food – Bring some of the flavors of your trip home with this class at Lanta Thai Cookery School. You’ll prepare several Thai dishes with help from an instructor, then sit down and enjoy everything you’ve made. We also love this as a rainy-day activity when a few hours at the beach just aren’t in the cards!
- Go scuba diving – Koh Lanta is surrounded by some fantastic dive sites, and we cannot recommend this small-group scuba diving day trip enough! The instructor can adapt the experience based on how much diving you’ve done before, and you’ll complete two dives during the day. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are also included to keep you fueled between sessions.

What’s an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card. Instead of buying a little plastic chip and swapping it into your phone, you just download it. It connects your phone to a local network in whatever country you’re visiting — no stores, no waiting, and no fiddling with tiny cards.
In simple terms, it’s the easiest way to get data and stay connected while traveling.
We’ve tested a bunch of eSIMs over the years, and after a few frustrating experiences, we’ve found our favorite — Airalo. It’s fast, reliable, and incredibly easy to use. You can set it up in minutes (even my mom managed it solo on her first try!), and the prices are some of the best out there.
