We really think it’s a must-visit US destination because it offers easy access to some of the most beautiful outdoor scenery in the country, which is really saying something. 

However, Jackson Hole covers a fairly large area, so where you stay will shape the entire experience. To help you choose the right base, we’ve broken down the three best places to stay in Jackson Hole, along with our favorite hotels in each one. Whether you want to wake up near the slopes or escape to a cabin surrounded by nature, we’ve got you covered.

Overview of the Best Areas to Stay in Jackson Hole

Jackson Hole is a beautiful mountain valley with several distinct places to stay, so choosing the right base makes a huge difference to your trip. Downtown Jackson is the most convenient option if you want to have restaurants and galleries on your doorstep, while Teton Village puts you right beside the slopes and summer hiking trails. And then there’s Wilson, which offers a much quieter stay surrounded by nature.

Jackson Hole is fairly spread out, so having a rental car will give you the most flexibility, especially if you plan to explore Grand Teton National Park. However, local buses and hotel shuttles can also be useful for getting between Jackson and Teton Village.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the best areas to stay in Jackson Hole:

• Downtown Jackson – Best for local charm & convenience – This lively western town is packed with restaurants, galleries, shops, and historic sights. We absolutely love Wyoming Inn of Jackson Hole because it combines rustic décor with modern comforts and offers excellent value close to downtown.

• Teton Village – Best for hiking & skiing – Located at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, this area is ideal for year-round outdoor adventures! Gravity Haus Jackson Hole is a chic alpine hotel that offers excellent access to the slopes and trails.

• Wilson – Best for a quiet nature escape – This peaceful community is ideal for travelers who want to get away from it all and switch off. Bentwood Inn is a top-rated lodge with cozy, rustic interiors set very close to the Tetons.

Downtown Jackson 

BEST FOR LOCAL CHARM & CONVENIENCE

• Accommodation can be pricey, especially in peak season
• Very busy during the summer and winter holidays

Downtown Jackson is the liveliest and most convenient place to stay in Jackson Hole. This is where you’ll find the biggest choice of amenities, from hotels and restaurants to shops and tour operators. Best of all, it’s very walkable, so it’s a great option if you want to be able to reach everything on foot.

The heart of town is Jackson Town Square, which is instantly recognizable thanks to its famous elk antler arches. The surrounding streets are full of wooden boardwalks and fun, Western-style bars, as well as independent boutiques and art galleries. We love this town because it has plenty of character, but it doesn’t feel like a theme park. And depending on when you visit, you may also be able to catch the Jackson Hole Rodeo, a summer concert, or one of the town’s art events.

Jackson is especially well suited to first-time visitors because it makes such an easy base for exploring the wider area. Grand Teton National Park is around a 20-minute drive away, while the National Elk Refuge sits just outside town. In winter, Snow King Mountain offers skiing and tubing right on Jackson’s doorstep.

All in all, we loved Downtown Jackson! We were able to enjoy outdoor adventures during the day, and then we had so much fun checking out the bars and restaurants in the evening. 

Hotel Jackson

Hotel Jackson is one of the best luxury hotels in Downtown Jackson, and the location is hard to beat. It’s just steps from Town Square, so you’ll have restaurants, galleries, shops, and the famous elk antler arches right on your doorstep!

Inside, the design of the hotel is very much Western-meets-modern. We love the stone fireplaces and wooden details. The rooms feel cozy and welcoming, but at the same time, they’re also very spacious with lots of natural light. Some even come with private balconies overlooking the town or surrounding mountains! Prices start at around $750 USD per night. 

If Hotel Jackson is fully booked, The Rusty Parrot Lodge & Spa is an excellent alternative if you’re looking to treat yourself. This luxurious boutique hotel is just a short walk from Jackson Town Square and is known for its beautiful rooms and award-winning spa, and the reviews are incredible!

We also recommend Trailborn Jackson Hole if you prefer a more modern mountain lodge. It has a heated outdoor pool, complimentary bike rentals, and fantastic views, while still being just minutes from the buzz of Downtown Jackson.

Wyoming Inn of Jackson Hole – $$ 

Wyoming Inn of Jackson Hole is our top pick in Downtown Jackson because it offers the perfect balance of comfort, value, and location. It sits just a short drive from Town Square, so you can easily explore Jackson’s bustling shops and restaurants while enjoying a quieter setting at the end of the day.

The rooms are spacious and cozy, with warm Western-inspired décor, comfortable beds, and plenty of thoughtful touches to make you feel at home. Downstairs, the inviting lobby is centered around a huge stone fireplace, while The Whistling Grizzly restaurant is a great spot to fuel up before a day of exploring. Prices start at around $160 USD per night. 

We also recommend Mountain Modern Jackson Hole if you’re planning to spend most of your time outdoors. With bike and ski storage, spacious rooms, and easy access to everything from cross-country skiing to rafting, we think that this is the perfect base for exploring everything Jackson Hole has to offer. It’s also got free parking, which is a huge win for downtown! 

Alternatively, Rustic Inn Creekside is perfect if you want a peaceful setting without sacrificing convenience. Set alongside Flat Creek just a short walk from Jackson Town Square, it offers cozy cabins, a heated outdoor pool, and a tranquil spa that feels like a world away from the bustle of downtown.

Antler Inn – $ 

Antler Inn is one of the best budget-friendly places to stay in Downtown Jackson, especially if location matters more to you than luxury. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from Town Square, so you can easily reach all of the restaurants and galleries without needing to drive.

The rooms are fairly simple and traditional, but they come with useful extras like a mini-fridge, coffee maker, and free Wi-Fi. There’s also free parking, laundry facilities, a gym, and a large hot tub, which is always welcome after a long day of hiking or skiing! And during winter, there’s a complimentary shuttle to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, which is another big perk.

If Antler Inn is fully booked, we think that Cache House is a great choice for budget travelers who want to stay right in the heart of Jackson. This stylish hostel is just steps from Town Square and offers comfortable bunks with privacy curtains, secure storage, and access to a welcoming communal lounge.

We also recommend The Lodge at Jackson Hole if you’d prefer more space and resort-style facilities. It has a year-round heated indoor-outdoor pool and an outdoor hot tub, so it’s an ideal place to come back to after a long day of hiking or skiing.

Teton Village

BEST FOR HIKING & SKIING

Pros

• Perfect base for ski holidays with slopes right outside your door
• Luxury hotels, fine dining, and spa experiences
• Scenic summer activities like hiking and the aerial tram

Cons

• Higher prices compared to other areas
• Quieter in the shoulder seasons when ski lifts aren’t running

Teton Village is the best place to stay in Jackson Hole if skiing and hiking are your top priorities. It sits at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, so you’ll enjoy easy access to the slopes and trails, while having restaurants and resort facilities right on your doorstep. That’s a win! 

Winter is the most popular time to stay here, as Teton Village is home to some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the entire country. And if you love après-ski drinks in cozy bars, you’ll be very well catered for here.

But what fewer people realize is that Teton Village is also a fantastic summer base. The Aerial Tram takes you up to 10,450 feet (3,185 meters) to tackle high-altitude hiking trails, although if that sounds a bit intimidating, you can always just enjoy the panoramic views and grab a waffle instead. There’s plenty going on around the village during the summer, too, like outdoor concerts, mountain biking, and high ropes courses. 

Teton Village is around 20 minutes from Downtown Jackson, so it feels more like a self-contained mountain resort than part of the town itself. However, it’s well placed for exploring Grand Teton National Park and ideal if you’d rather spend your evenings at a spa or fireside restaurant than heading into town.

Teton Mountain Lodge and Spa – $$$

Teton Mountain Lodge and Spa is a fantastic choice if you want a luxury stay right in the mountains! It sits right in Teton Village, just steps from Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, so you’ve got skiing and hiking practically on your doorstep.

The rooms and suites feel warm and cozy, with fireplaces, kitchenettes, and even spa tubs in some options. We especially love the rooftop hot tub, which is perfect for soaking tired legs while taking in the mountain views! There are also two pools and a full-service spa, so staying here feels like a true wellness escape. Prices start at around $400 USD per night. 

Alternatively, Faraway Jackson Hole is another luxurious choice in Teton Village. We love how its mountain design feels both modern and cozy at the same time, and it’s located just steps away from the Jackson Hole Aerial Tram, so it’s ideal for both skiers and summer hikers.

Gravity Haus Jackson Hole – $$

Gravity Haus Jackson Hole is one of the best-value places to stay in Teton Village because it puts you close to the mountain without charging luxury lodge prices. The rooms are modern and comfortable, with some larger options that work well for families.

There’s also an onsite restaurant and bar, as well as an outdoor pool and hot tub with beautiful mountain views. Best of all, you’ll be close to the lifts, trails, golf courses, and everything else Teton Village has to offer. Prices start at around $150 USD per night. 

The Hostel – $

The Hostel is a fantastic budget-friendly option right at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. It offers affordable private rooms with ski-to-door access, so it’s ideal for travelers who want to stay close to the slopes without paying luxury Teton Village prices.

The rooms are simple but comfortable, with wood-paneled walls and a cozy mountain-lodge feel. There’s also a communal kitchen area with a refrigerator and microwave, plus a game room with pool, shuffleboard, and lots of board games.

We also like the relaxed outdoor setup, with barbecue facilities and picnic tables. And Grand Teton National Park is just one mile away, so this is a super handy base during the summer. Prices start at around $80 USD per night.

Wilson 

BEST FOR A QUIET NATURE ESCAPE

Pros

• Peaceful, small-town vibe close to Jackson
• Great access to hiking, biking, and the Snake River
• Short drive to Grand Teton National Park

Cons

• Limited hotels and dining options
• No nightlife compared to Jackson or Teton Village
• You’ll need a car to get around conveniently

If you’re dreaming of a true escape to nature, Wilson is the perfect place to stay. Our favorite thing about Wilson is that it feels very secluded, but it’s actually only about a 10-minute drive from Downtown Jackson, so it’s still convenient but a lot more peaceful. We also enjoy the riverside scenery and more local feel of this area! 

Wilson is a small community that sits near Fish Creek and is surrounded by some of the prettiest scenery in the valley. Rather than large hotels, you’ll mostly find cozy lodges and cabins here, so we think it’s perfect if you enjoy more personal stays. It’s a great choice for couples on a romantic trip, as you can expect plenty of privacy in Wilson.

There isn’t a huge amount going on in Wilson itself, but that’s part of the appeal. You can spend your days enjoying the great outdoors and then head into Jackson for dinner if you want more choice. Grand Teton National Park is also within easy reach, and the Snake River is nearby for outdoor adventures.

Wilson does still have a little character of its own, including the historic Stagecoach Bar, which has been a local favorite since 1942. Overall, it’s ideal for travelers who want the beauty of Jackson Hole without staying in its busiest areas.

Bentwood Inn – $$$ 

We think that Bentwood Inn is a fantastic choice if you want somewhere cozy and full of character – and that’s the kind of stay we love! This boutique lodge sits in Wilson and feels much more personal than a large hotel, with rustic interiors and attentive service. You feel more like family than a guest! 

This place feels so authentic to Wyoming, and we just love its entire aesthetic! Perhaps best of all, you get a delicious breakfast included, which is absolutely perfect before a day of exploring the great outdoors. Prices start at around $450 USD per night.

Fireside Resort  – $$

Fireside Resort is perfect if you want the privacy of your own cabin without feeling too far from the action. Set among the trees in Wilson, it offers a peaceful stay immersed in nature, but you’ll still only be a short drive from Downtown Jackson! 

We love how each modern cabin feels like a stylish home away from home, with fireplaces and private patios. There are even kitchenettes, which are handy for preparing simple meals if you don’t fancy heading into town for dinner, as well as an outdoor area with barbecue grills and lots of space to relax. Prices start at around $220 USD per night.

Top Activities to do in Jackson Hole

Now that you have picked out your favorite area to stay in and your top hotel option, you can plan the rest of your trip! There are tons of things to do around Jackson Hole, and I’m talking more than just hiking. So if you’re looking for some fun activities to add to your vacation, here are my favorite things we did:

• Spot wildlife with an expert guide – Seeing animals in the wild was high on my Jackson Hole bucket list, and this 4-hour tour made it possible. Our expert guide took us to common sighting locations, where we found deer, eagles, hawks, and even a black bear that we would have missed on our own!

• Float down the Snake River – If you’re visiting during summer, this river float is the most relaxing way to take in the views. It isn’t an extreme rafting sort of thing, think a leisurely float while the guides lead the way. We even saw wildlife on the banks of the river!

• Day trip to Yellowstone – Visiting Yellowstone National Park is a must, and if you’re short on time, this full-day tour from Jackson makes it possible. We saw Old Faithful erupt like clockwork, smelled sulfur from the Fountain Paint Pots hot springs, and spotted bison everywhere we turned for the perfect day trip.

• Go horseback riding – Is there anything more western than riding horses? I don’t think so! This horseback ride through the Grand Tetons was quintessentially American, and we had a blast exploring the park, taking in the views, and getting to know our four-legged friend!

• Go fishing – This guided fishing trip makes it easy to cast a line without packing all of your gear. Not only does the guide take care of the logistics and equipment, but they also know the best fishing holes, so you have better luck at catching a keeper! It’s the best way to enjoy the great outdoors.
