Planning a trip to Bali? You’re in the right place!

I’ve been coming to Bali since I was a kid, and we’ve had many magical trips here together. In fact, we even lived here full-time for a while! And one thing that we’ve learned is that choosing where to stay has a big impact on your trip, because each area offers a very different experience.

Whether you want to hang out at chic beach clubs, surf, or get in touch with your spiritual side, we’re here to help you find the best area to stay in Bali. We’ve also included our top hotel picks for every budget to make things extra easy. Let’s go!

Don’t Miss Out On Our Top Choice!

This is the hotel and area we loved the most and suggest booking ASAP!

Our personal FAVORITE area to stay in Bali is Ubud! It’s the cultural heart of the island, surrounded by rice terraces, temples, and wellness retreats.

We loved Bliss Ubud Spa Resort for its easy access to Ubud’s main attractions. Plus, waking up to rice field views was such a treat!

One of the things that makes Bali such an appealing travel destination is that it has a bit of everything! However, we know from experience that having so many choices can be overwhelming. That’s why we’ve written this guide to make it super simple and help you choose the right base.

When choosing where to stay, do keep in mind the island is bigger than many expect, and there’s a lot of traffic, which means that even short journeys often take longer than planned. You won’t exactly be bound to one area, but we do recommend reading this guide carefully and choosing the neighborhood that best suits your vibe. It will make your trip easier and much more enjoyable!

With that in mind, here’s a quick overview of our favorite part of Bali to stay in:

  • SeminyakBest for beach clubs & trendy dining – Seminyak is Bali’s hub for upscale dining, boutique shopping, and chic beach clubs, though prices are higher and traffic can be heavy. Grand Mercure Bali Seminyak is one of the most reputable hotels in the area!
  • Kuta / LegianBest for nightlife & surfing – This area is famous for its surf schools and buzzing nightlife, and it offers lots of affordable accommodation options. Speaking of which, MAMAKA by Ovolo offers a super stylish but reasonably priced stay.
  • CangguBest for digital nomads & café culture – This trendy coastal stretch is where surf breaks meet hip cafés, co-working hubs, and fun bars. This is where we lived! Chesa Canggu is a beautiful hotel that puts you close to the action.
  • UbudBest for culture & wellness retreats – Ubud is Bali’s cultural and wellness centre, where yoga, art, and nature retreats abound, although it’s busier than you might think! Bliss Ubud Spa Resort is a gorgeous retreat that balances relaxation with easy access to town.
  • JimbaranBest for a relaxed beach stay – This relaxed beach town is known for its sunset seafood dinners and upscale resorts. Platinum Hotel offers a comfortable stay near the beach and famous seafood restaurants.
  • UluwatuBest for surf & dramatic cliffs – Uluwatu is a spread-out area that’s home to Bali’s most beautiful beaches and best surf breaks! Terra Cottages Bali is a cozy option with cliffside charm and easy access to beaches.
  • Nusa DuaBest for luxury family resorts – This gated resort enclave has calm waters and manicured beaches, making it an ideal choice for families. Grand Whiz Hotel offers a super comfortable stay with a complimentary shuttle service to other resorts.
  • SanurBest for a quiet beach escape – Bali’s east coast is a calm and family-friendly area with great swimming beaches and minimal nightlife. Prama Sanur Beach Bali is a spacious hotel just steps away from the sand!

Important Tip

Multiple Bali trips have taught us that this island doesn’t reward spontaneity when it comes to planning. The good places get snapped up months in advance, leaving the overpriced and underwhelming options for last-minute travelers.

The sweet spot for booking Bali accommodations is 3-4 months out—enough time to secure good rates but not so far ahead that you’re locking in plans excessively early.

Where to Stay in Bali

Seminyak

“Eat Street” is easily the best part of this area

And the sunsets are amazing here too!

BEST FOR BEACH CLUBS & TRENDY DINING

Pros

  • Stylish area with beach clubs, shopping, and dining close by
  • Great for first-time visitors wanting convenience and nightlife

Cons

  • Can be crowded and busy, especially on weekends
  • Traffic can be heavy

Seminyak is arguably Bali’s chicest neighborhood, and we think it’s a great choice if it’s your first time on the island. This area is home to upscale dining options and trendy beach clubs, where you can spend the day swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying Bali’s epic sunsets!

Spending a day at Seminyak’s famous Potato Head Beach Club is a must when in Bali, and the nightlife here is so much fun. We love dancing the night away at La Favela or Motel Mexicola! This area is home to lots of Bali’s most Insta-worthy cafes, too, including Kynd Community and Coffee Cartel.

One of our favorite parts of Seminyak is “Eat Street”, aka Jalan Laksmana. It stretches for around 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) and is lined with both international restaurants and local warungs. It’s a fun and lively area, and a great place to sample lots of local food.

We love staying in Seminyak because it’s great to have so many options within walking distance. However, this area can get busy, especially on weekends and during peak season. The streets are crowded, and traffic is often slow. Seminyak is absolutely perfect if you enjoy energy, style, and beach vibes, but not ideal if you’re after peace and quiet.

Double – Six, Luxury Hotel is a sleek, luxury hotel right on Seminyak Beach. It has a huge swimming pool overlooking the ocean and a beautiful rooftop restaurant where you can enjoy a complimentary breakfast each morning.

This property is in an excellent location, which makes it easy to stroll along the beach or visit nearby bars and boutiques. In short, this place encapsulates everything that’s so great about Seminyak. If you’re looking for a luxury beach getaway, we highly recommend this hotel!

Suites cost between $175 and $600 USD per night, but the most premium suites can reach $2,000 USD and up!

If Double-Six is fully booked, but you still want to stay close to Seminyak Beach Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach by IHG is a fantastic alternative. The property feels like a tropical retreat with lush gardens, multiple swimming pools, stylish rooms, and several excellent restaurants that make it easy to relax without leaving the resort.

Blu-Zea Resort by Double-Six is another great backup if you want to stay in the heart of Seminyak near Eat Street’s restaurants and boutiques. This laid-back resort stands out for its huge lagoon-style pool, tropical gardens, and fun social atmosphere that makes it easy to unwind after a day exploring Bali.

Grand Mercure Bali Seminyak – $$

Grand Mercure Bali Seminyak still offers 5-star luxury, but with a pretty reasonable price tag. With a large outdoor pool, a sumptuous spa, and a modern restaurant that serves fantastic local and international food. The hotel is conveniently located close to Seminyak Beach, shopping streets, and nightlife, which makes it easy to explore the area during the day and relax in comfort at night.

The staff here are so friendly and welcoming, and really go above and beyond to ensure their guests have an amazing stay. The breakfast is another standout selling point, so we recommend opting to include that with your stay. Rooms cost between $115 and $225 USD per night, depending on your dates and room category.

A short walk from Seminyak Beach, Courtyard by Marriott Bali Seminyak Resort is another solid option if you want to stay close to the beach while being near Seminyak’s popular dining and shopping spots. The resort stands out for its huge central pool area, lively atmosphere, and excellent breakfast spread that guests consistently rave about.

Hidden on a quiet side street near Seminyak Beach, Annora Villas Seminyak is a great pick if you’d rather stay somewhere small and intimate than at a large resort. The property features Balinese-style villas with private plunge pools, lush tropical gardens, and a peaceful setting that feels worlds away from the busy streets nearby.

THE HAVEN Bali Seminyak – $

THE HAVEN Bali Seminyak in Bali Indonesia
Photo credit: THE HAVEN Bali Seminyak

THE HAVEN Bali Seminyak is a budget-friendly choice, but it still packs plenty of Balinese charm! We love the fact that you can enjoy an Insta-worthy floating breakfast in the pool. There’s also an on-site spa where you can enjoy massages and other relaxing treatments, and there’s a free shuttle to Seminyak Beach, which is a huge bonus.

The hotel also boasts beautiful jungle-esque gardens and a small fitness center. The staff truly could not be nicer, and the on-site restaurant is sleek and stylish. I highly recommend trying the churros!

Options here range from deluxe rooms to two-bedroom villas with private pools. Expect to pay between $75 and $360 USD per night, depending on the category you choose.

Horison Ultima Seminyak Bali – CHSE Certified is another affordable stay tucked along a quieter part of Seminyak, while still being close enough to reach the beach, restaurants, and nightlife easily. Guests love the rooftop swimming pool and modern rooms, which offer a comfortable place to recharge after busy days exploring the area.

For travelers who like a bit of energy during their stay, HARRIS Hotel Seminyak sits close to some of the area’s most popular beach clubs and cafes. The hotel is known for its colorful design and four separate swimming pools, giving it a lively, resort-style atmosphere that’s great for social travelers.

Kuta / Legian

If you like to party, this is the place to be!
Bailey-surfs-in-Bali Indonesia
Not to mention, there is some great surfing

BEST FOR NIGHTLIFE & SURFING

Pros

  • Great for nightlife, surfing, and budget-friendly options
  • Lots of restaurants, shops, and entertainment are close by

Cons

  • Can feel crowded and noisy, especially at night
  • Not ideal for travelers seeking peace and quiet

Kuta and Legian are probably Bali’s most famous beach towns. They’re both first-timer friendly, and we would recommend staying here if you’re after surfing, lively nightclubs, and lots of budget-friendly options.

These areas sit right next to one another, and they’re always buzzing. During the day, it’s all about surfing and watersports, and there are lots of beach bars around. If you venture off the beach, the streets are packed full of shops and markets selling souvenirs. The Beachwalk Mall is also one of Bali’s best shopping destinations, as it’s huge and home to lots of international brands.

However, probably the biggest reason that people come to Kuta and Legian is to party! AMV Shooting Bar is a great place to start a night out, and Sky Garden is the ultimate spot to dance the night away. But honestly, there are so many choices around here that we’d be here all day if we were to list them all.

We should be clear, though, that Kuta and Legian aren’t for everyone. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you’re not very interested in partying! The streets can get crowded, traffic is heavy, and the nightlife means there’s constant noise. These towns are best suited for travelers who enjoy lively surroundings and don’t mind a little chaos.

Hard Rock Hotel Bali – $$$

Hard Rock Hotel Bali in Bali Indonesia
Photo credit: Hard Rock Hotel Bali

Hard Rock Hotel Bali is a high-energy but luxurious resort right on Kuta Beach. It’s perfect if you want to enjoy Kuta and Legian’s infamous nightlife but from a sumptuous, high-end base. We love the resort-style vibes here. It’s got a large pool, multiple restaurants, a spa, and lots of live music events, so you don’t need to leave the resort to experience the area’s fun!

However, if you do manage to drag yourself away, the property is steps from surf lessons and local shopping streets. Staying here means you’re in the thick of Kuta’s lively scene, so we think it’s perfect for anyone who’s looking for a 5-star, fun-filled stay! Rooms here cost between $250 and $500 USD per night.

Set just across from Legian Beach, The Stones Hotel – Legian Bali is a fantastic backup option if you still want that upscale resort feel while staying close to Kuta and Legian’s buzzing nightlife. The hotel stands out for its huge lagoon-style pool, stylish rooms, and lively poolside atmosphere that makes it easy to relax.

Overlooking Kuta Beach and right beside the popular Beachwalk Shopping Center, Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort puts you in one of the most convenient spots in the area. The resort features spacious ocean-view rooms, a beautiful infinity pool, and excellent dining options that offer a calm, comfortable escape from the busy streets below.

MAMAKA by Ovolo – $$

Mamaka by Ovolo, Bali in Bali Indonesia

MAMAKA by Ovolo is a stylish mid-range hotel located just a few minutes from Kuta Beach. It offers funky, contemporary rooms and a truly fantastic restaurant. We also love the rooftop infinity pool and bar, which overlooks the ocean. It’s one of the best sunset spots in Kuta as far as we’re concerned!

The hotel’s location is perfect for exploring the area’s restaurants, bars, and surf spots without being right in the middle of the busiest streets. We really like this hotel because it provides such a great balance of comfort, style, and convenience.

Rooms typically cost between $100 and $250 USD per night.

Tucked along the beachfront between Kuta and Legian, AlamKulkul Boutique Resort is another great option if you like staying close to the surf while enjoying a more relaxed setting. The resort leans into traditional Balinese design with charming wooden villas, tropical gardens, and a couple of lovely pools that feel like a peaceful retreat from the busy streets nearby.

A few minutes from Legian Beach and close to the area’s popular restaurants and bars, The Magani Hotel and Spa is another comfortable mid-range option in the neighborhood. Spacious rooms, a beautiful central pool, and an excellent on-site spa make it an easy place to unwind after busy days exploring Kuta and Legian.

Tribe Bali Kuta Beach – $

TRIBE Bali Kuta Beach in Bali Indonesia

Tribe Bali Kuta Beach is a stylish boutique hotel that won’t break the bank. With a rooftop infinity pool and fun, modern decor, this place is a real testament to just how far your dollar goes in Bali!

One thing guests like about this hotel is the unlimited self-service laundry, which is so useful if you’ve been on the road for a while! The hotel is also within walking distance of Kuta Beach and lots of local eateries, as well as Kuta’s best nightlife hotspots.

Staying here is such a great way to experience the best of Bali on a budget! Expect to pay between $85 and $225 USD per night here.

Just a short stroll from Legian Beach and close to the area’s buzzing restaurants and bars, New Garden View Resort is another easygoing option in the neighborhood. The resort has a relaxed, tropical feel with two swimming pools, leafy garden courtyards, and simple rooms that make it a comfortable and affordable base in Kuta-Legian.

Located right between Kuta and Legian, Mercure Bali Legian puts you within walking distance of the beach, shopping streets, and plenty of nightlife. The hotel stands out for its modern design, rooftop pool with sunset views, and polished rooms that offer a bit of extra comfort without a huge price tag.

BEST FOR DIGITAL NOMADS & CAFE CULTURE

Pros

  • Trendy cafés, surf spots, and wellness studios nearby
  • Great for digital nomads

Cons

  • Can feel crowded in peak season
  • Roads are busy, and getting around often requires a scooter

Canggu is a trendy village on Bali’s southwest coast. It was once a small fishing community, but now it’s a booming hub for surfers and digital nomads. In fact, I’d say at least half of the digital nomads in Bali live here!

What we like about Canggu is how livable it feels. This is where we based ourselves when we lived in Bali, because even though it is popular with tourists, it just feels a bit more like a proper lived-in neighborhood than a holiday hotspot. With that said, Canggu is home to one of Bali’s most famous beach clubs, Finn’s! Or for more ideas beyond beach clubs, don’t miss our guide to the best things to do in Canggu here!

While I don’t think Canggu’s black sand beaches are the prettiest on the island, having a beach down the road is still ideal for surfing and sunset drinks on the sand. Thanks to the digital nomad population, there are also a ton of co-working spaces here. We worked at Outpost when we lived in Canggy, but Dojo and Tropical Nomad are also very popular.

Canggu is quite spread out, so we hired a scooter when we lived here, but you can also use the Grab app to hail rides cheaply. This area can get crowded during peak season, but if you don’t mind that, then we think it’s a great place to stay.

Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu – $$$

Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu in Bali Indonesia

Holiday Inn Resort Bali Canggu is a stylish luxury hotel just a few minutes’ walk from Bolong Beach. It offers spacious rooms with modern décor and a large rooftop infinity pool that overlooks the ocean. And of course, you get plenty of 5-star amenities, including a gym, a spa, and a restaurant.

We think that this upscale hotel is an excellent choice for families. There’s a kids’ club with lots of organized activities to give parents a break, and there are family rooms with nautical-themed bunk beds that kids will love.

Meanwhile, Canggu’s best surf spots, coolest cafes, and pretty rice fields are just a short walk or drive away. Rooms here cost between $150 and $250 USD per night, while suites go up to $700 USD.

Set close to Canggu’s popular cafes and just a short ride from Batu Bolong Beach, ZIN Canggu Resort & Villas is another fantastic option in this trendy neighborhood. The resort stands out for its peaceful garden setting, stylish villas, and a fantastic on-site cafe and co-working space that’s especially popular with digital nomads.

On the quieter edge of Canggu, Shore Amora Canggu is a great pick if you like the idea of staying somewhere scenic while still being close to the beach. The boutique property features beautiful minimalist villas, an infinity pool with sweeping green views, and a calm atmosphere that feels like a true escape from the busier parts of Canggu.

Chesa Canggu – $$

We love how Chesa Canggu blends contemporary comfort with tropical boho touches. The rooms here are bright and modern, and a lot of them have balconies that overlook the gorgeous pool or the lush gardens. Not bad!

There’s a slick and stylish bar and restaurant on site, so staying here can really do wonders for your Instagram feed. However, what really makes Chesa Canggu special is the incredible staff, whose attention to detail is unparalleled.

And thanks to the great location, staying here makes it easy to experience everything that Canggu has to offer without being right on the busiest streets. Rooms typically range from $120 to $150 USD per night, which we think is amazing value for money.

Just a few minutes from Batu Bolong Beach, Eastin Ashta Resort Canggu is another great mid-range option in this lively area. The resort features sleek, modern rooms, a large pool area, and a relaxed restaurant and bar that make it easy to settle in after a day of surfing or exploring.

If you’re traveling on a tighter budget but still want to stay close to Canggu’s social scene, Roomates Hostel Canggu by Ini Vie Hospitality is a fun and stylish option near the beach and popular nightlife spots. The hostel has a trendy design with a rooftop pool, social lounge areas, and both private rooms and dorms that make it easy to meet other travelers.

Aston Canggu Beach Resort – $

Aston Canggu Beach Resort in Bali Indonesia
Photo credit: Aston Canggu Beach Resort

Aston Canggu Beach Resort is a smart and budget-friendly option in the heart of Canggu, just a few minutes’ walk from Canggu Beach, Batu Bolong Beach, and Echo Beach. If you want to surf, then there’s really no better place to stay!

Although this place is budget-friendly, it still boasts a rooftop pool and a fitness room. It’s a smart choice for travelers who want to stay close to the action without overspending because it offers a nice, comfortable stay near the beaches. Expect to pay between $70 and $135 USD per night.

Right by Berawa Beach and some of Canggu’s most popular cafes and beach clubs, Citadines Berawa Beach Bali Resort is another convenient option if you want to stay close to the surf and social scene. The property features modern apartment-style rooms, a rooftop pool with ocean views, and handy amenities like kitchenettes that are great for longer stays.

Tucked in a quieter corner of Canggu not far from Echo Beach, TheSoulHouseBali is a great pick if you prefer a more laid-back base. The boutique guesthouse stands out for its colorful boho design and friendly social vibe that makes it easy to meet other travelers.

Ubud

Tegalalang Rice Terrace!

BEST FOR CULTURE & WELLNESS RETREATS

Pros

  • Lots of temples and palaces
  • Surrounded by jungle and waterfalls
  • Thriving wellness scene

Cons

  • Busier and more touristy than its reputation suggests
  • Main streets can feel crowded

Ubud is Bali’s cultural and spiritual center. If you’re more excited about Bali’s jungle than its beaches, then this wellness-focused town is a great choice.

We always make a point to visit Ubud for at least a few days when we’re in Bali. It offers quite a different vibe from the beachy hotspots. It’s an absolute haven for yogis, but you can also find lots of spiritual workshops, breathwork sessions, and even ecstatic dance. If you’re interested in the alternative, Ubud is the place to be.

Historically, Ubud has a reputation for being zen, but to be honest, those days are long gone. Its reputation makes it a tourist hotspot, as well as popular attractions like the Monkey Forest (which is so much fun to visit, just FYI!) and the stunning Tegallalang Rice Terrace.

There are tons of temples and holy sites here, too, including Titra Empul, the Water Palace, and Gunung Kawi Sanctuary. For more ideas on exploring, check out our blog on the best tours in Ubud that made us fall in love with Bali here!

These days, we wouldn’t necessarily recommend Ubud if you want a super calm base, although there are a lot of great properties that allow you to feel far removed from it all. However, if you’re interested in Balinese culture and spiritual pursuits, it’s a fantastic place to stay.

Kastara Resort – $$$

Kastara Resort in Bali Indonesia 1

We absolutely love Kastara Resort because it has such a strong focus on tradition and culture. If your dream trip to Bali involves flower baths and sweeping jungle views, then we’re confident you’ll fall in love with this place. It’s truly a bucket list stay!

I don’t even know what deserves more praise – the stunning infinity pool, the Hibachi grill (yum!), or the incredible spa. What I do know is that this place is the ultimate honeymoon stay in Bali. On site, you can enjoy activities like cooking classes, yoga, and even go rafting!

It’s actually one of the best-reviewed properties on the entire island, so if you’re looking to splurge on an unforgettable stay, we think that Kastara Resort is an amazing choice. Rooms here cost between $300 and $600 USD per night.

Surrounded by lush rice fields just outside central Ubud, Wapa di Ume Ubud is another great option if you love the idea of waking up to jungle views while still being close to the town’s temples, shops, and restaurants. The resort features beautiful thatched-roof villas, a serene infinity pool overlooking the greenery, and wellness touches like yoga sessions and a tranquil spa.

Not far from Ubud’s temples, cafes, and cultural sites, Gynandha Ubud Cottage offers an intimate stay that feels warm and homey rather than resort-like. The small property stands out for its handcrafted wooden cottages, friendly local hospitality, and a cozy pool courtyard that’s perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.

Bliss Ubud Spa Resort – $$

Bliss Ubud Spa Resort in Bali Indonesia

We absolutely loved our stay at Bliss Ubud Spa Resort! If you’re seeking beautiful views and quintessential Bali vibes for a reasonable price, we think that this property will be right up your alley. We loved waking up to rice field views each morning and the fact that this property is so serene and tranquil.

The staff were amazing, too, and went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great time here. And despite its serenity, Bliss Ubud’s location allows easy access to Ubud’s main sights, as it’s just a 5-minute drive or Grab ride from the town center.

There’s a restaurant on site and plenty of authentic local warungs within walking distance, so we ate very well while we were here! Rooms start from $100 USD per night and range up to $350 USD for a private villa.

Overlooking the lush Tjampuhan Valley just outside Ubud’s center, Ulun Ubud Resort – CHSE Certified is a lovely spot if you want those classic jungle views while staying close to the town’s temples and cafes. The resort features traditional Balinese-style rooms, an infinity pool perched above the valley, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes it easy to unwind.

Set a short drive from Ubud’s busy town center, Best Western Premier Agung Resort Ubud offers a comfortable stay surrounded by tropical greenery. The property stands out for its spacious modern rooms, large swimming pool, and a full-service spa that’s perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing.

SenS Hotel and Spa – $

SenS Hotel & Spa + Conference Ubud Town Centre in Bali Indonesia
Photo credit: SenS Hotel & Spa + Conference Ubud Town Centre

SenS Hotel and Spa is a budget-friendly, but very comfortable, option in Ubud. The hotel still has traditional Balinese vibes, and although it’s not perhaps as Insta-worthy as the options we’ve outlined above, it’s still a smart hotel with excellent amenities. There’s a lovely pool, a full range of spa treatments available, and a stylish restaurant on site.

The location is great, too. SenS is close to the Ubud Palace and just a short drive from the famous Monkey Forest. All in all, we think it’s great for travelers who want an enjoyable stay for less! Expect to pay between $60 and $165 USD per night, depending on your dates and room category.

Surrounded by peaceful rice paddies just outside Ubud’s busy center, Ananda Ubud Resort is a top choice if you want to stay somewhere scenic without straying too far from the town. The property features traditional Balinese-style rooms, tropical gardens, and two tranquil swimming pools that make it easy to soak up Ubud’s chill vibe.

Set along a quiet road not far from the Campuhan Ridge Walk and Ubud Palace, Sri Ratih Cottages, CHSE Certified is another charming stay in the area. The boutique property is known for its beautiful Balinese architecture, relaxing spa, and inviting pool courtyard that feels like a little oasis after a day exploring town.

BEST FOR A RELAXED BEACH STAY

Pros

  • Quiet, relaxed atmosphere with beautiful beaches
  • Ideal for couples and families

Cons

  • Limited nightlife and shopping
  • Can feel a bit isolated from Bali’s busier areas

Jimbaran is a relaxed beach town on Bali’s southwest coast, and it’s known as the island’s seafood capital! We recommend staying here if you’re looking for a quieter, more laid-back experience. The area is famous for its stunning sunsets and long stretches of golden sand. It’s also a great area for swimming because the water is calmer than in other coastal areas.

We stayed in Jimbaran during one of our visits and loved how different it feels compared with areas like Kuta or Seminyak. The vibe here is slower, with fewer crowds and a focus on relaxation. If you’re seeking quiet beaches, laid-back beach bars, and an escape from Bali’s rowdier party areas, we think you’ll love Jimbaran.

Despite its tranquility, you’re still within reach of Bali’s top attractions: the Uluwatu Temple, Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, and the surf beaches of nearby Pecatu are all just a short drive away.

Another great thing about Jimbaran is that it offers a nice balance between luxury resorts and budget-friendly stays. There’s plenty of choice, and we always enjoy the reprieve from the crowds.

AYANA Segara Bali – $$$

AYANA Segara Bali is a luxurious resort set right on Jimbaran Beach. Its location immediately makes it a winner in our book, but when you consider that the property features stunning tiered infinity pools, a private beach, and beautiful Balinese decor, it definitely stands out as one of the best properties on the entire island!

The resort even has 26 (yes, you read that right) bar and restaurant options on site, so you’ll never need to leave! There’s even a bar with seating built directly into the cliffs, where you can sip cocktails while the waves crash dramatically below. How cool is that?

Rooms here typically start at $300 USD per night and can reach up to $1,000 USD per night for the most luxurious suites.

Perched above Jimbaran Bay with sweeping ocean views, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay is another incredible luxury stay in the area. The resort is known for its private pool villas, world-class spa, and exceptional service that make it feel like a true tropical sanctuary.

Set slightly inland in a peaceful part of Jimbaran, Vivara Bali Private Pool Villas & Spa Retreat is a wonderful choice if you’re after a more secluded escape. The property features spacious private pool villas, lush gardens, and a tranquil spa that’s perfect for slowing down and soaking up Bali’s laid-back side.

Platinum Hotel – $$

Platinum Hotel offers an elegant beachfront stay with a more moderate price tag. We love the clean, modern decor and the fact that many of the rooms offer lovely sea views. The property boasts direct beach access, a relaxing spa, two sleek pools, and a well-equipped gym, so you couldn’t really ask for much more, to be honest!

We really like the way that this hotel balances comfort and affordability. We think it’s ideal for couples and families looking to enjoy a relaxing stay in Jimbaran on a fairly modest budget. Speaking of which, rooms here typically range from $120 to $275 USD per night.

Just a short walk from Jimbaran Beach, Anja Jimbaran is another great option if you want to stay close to the sand without overspending. The hotel has a bright tropical feel with a large lagoon-style pool, spacious rooms with balconies, and a relaxed atmosphere that’s perfect for unwinding after a beach day.

Set right on the shores of Jimbaran Bay, InterContinental Bali Resort by IHG is a fantastic option if you’re looking to elevate your stay with a bit more luxury. The sprawling resort is known for its lush tropical gardens, multiple pools, and excellent beachfront dining, which makes sunset dinners especially memorable.

Infinity8 Bali – $

We think that Infinity8 Bali offers exceptional value for money in Jimbaran! The rooms are clean and simple, and there’s a fitness center and rooftop infinity pool for guests to enjoy. Best of all, though, there’s a free shuttle to Infinity Beach Club that runs multiple times per day.

So, although it’s not as close to the beach as the hotels we’ve mentioned above, you still get super easy beach access! If you’re traveling to Bali on a budget and want a calm and comfortable base in Jimbaran, we think that Infinity8 makes a great choice.

There are three restaurants on site for convenience, and you can also opt to include a continental breakfast each morning with your stay if you like. Expect to pay between $35 and $150 USD per night.

Set in a quieter part of Jimbaran, Abi Bali Resort and Villa is another great value option if you want a peaceful base away from the crowds. The resort features spacious suites and private pool villas, along with a tranquil spa and a relaxed garden setting that feels calm and secluded.

Located in a serene corner of Jimbaran not far from the airport and the bay, Alindra Villas & Spa offers a stay that feels rich in Balinese character. The property is known for its beautifully carved wooden villas, lush tropical gardens, and a quiet spa that makes it feel more like a cultural retreat than a typical hotel.

Uluwatu

Yep, it’s this pretty!

BEST FOR SURF & DRAMATIC CLIFFS

Pros

  • Stunning cliffside views and world-class beaches
  • Relaxed, bohemian atmosphere

Cons

  • Spread out; transport by scooter or driver needed
  • Limited nightlife and shopping compared with other areas

I think that Uluwatu is the most beautiful coastal area in Bali! It’s truly breathtaking, with dramatic cliffs, bright blue waters, and gorgeous golden shores. We enjoy the laid-back, boho vibe here, and surfers love the waves. There’s a decent amount of swell here, but nothing too crazy, so there are plenty of good spots for beginners to learn, while more experienced surfers can ride the bigger waves and barrels.

As well as its world-class surf breaks, Uluwatu is famous for the iconic Uluwatu Temple. Catching a Kecak fire dance performance here at sunset is a true must-do while in Bali—it’s an experience that will take your breath away! Uluwatu is also home to Single Fin, a gorgeous clifftop bar that’s basically Bali’s ultimate sunset spot.

We stayed in Uluwatu on a recent trip to Bali, and we loved how peaceful it feels compared with the busier coastal towns. The beaches do still get crowded during peak season, but since Uluwatu is pretty spread out, it has a much quieter feel overall than more densely packed areas.

We definitely recommend renting a scooter if you stay here, as this area isn’t as well-served by Grab as other parts of Bali, but if you’re happy enough driving around, then it’s definitely worth it! And if you’re planning time here, don’t miss our guide on the best things to do in Uluwatu for more ways to experience this stunning coastal area.

All in all, we think that this resort is perfect for couples and families seeking a high-end, scenic getaway in Uluwatu. The combination of its epic location and that renowned Radisson service makes it a top choice! Rooms and suites typically cost between $220 and $850 USD per night.

Along one of Uluwatu’s most scenic cliffside stretches, Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort offers incredible views over the Indian Ocean. The property is known for its tiered infinity pool, sleek oceanfront suites with glass balconies, and a beautiful cliffside restaurant that’s especially popular at sunset.

Surf lovers tend to gravitate toward The Korowai, which sits right above Bingin Beach in the heart of Uluwatu’s laid-back surf community. Its rustic wooden architecture and open-air restaurant perched over the waves make it one of the most memorable spots in the area for watching surfers at sunset.

  • Lots of high-end resorts and shopping nearby

Cons

The area offers calm, turquoise waters and wide, sandy beaches, so it’s perfect for lazy beach days and family fun away from the surfing and party scene.

This neighborhood is home to some of Bali’s most renowned luxury resorts, alongside high-end shopping and several golf courses. The beaches here are ideal for swimming and watersports, and although the area offers less local color than other parts of the island, there are still cultural attractions like Museum Pasifika and the nearby Geger Temple on offer.

Nightlife here is limited compared to southern Bali hotspots, but Nusa Dua is still only a 30-40 minute drive from Seminyak, Jimbaran, and Uluwatu, so day trips are pretty simple. A lot of families choose to base themselves here for a peaceful and convenient holiday.

The area is well-planned and gated, giving it a safe and easy-to-navigate feel. If you’re looking for a calm and refined experience against a pristine coastal backdrop, then we think you’ll love Nusa Dua.

AIRALO e-SIM Up To 15% Off With Code “DTRAVEL15”

What’s an eSIM?

An eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card. Instead of buying a little plastic chip and swapping it into your phone, you just download it. It connects your phone to a local network in whatever country you’re visiting — no stores, no waiting, and no fiddling with tiny cards.

In simple terms, it’s the easiest way to get data and stay connected while traveling.

We’ve tested a bunch of eSIMs over the years, and after a few frustrating experiences, we’ve found our favorite — Airalo. It’s fast, reliable, and incredibly easy to use. You can set it up in minutes (even my mom managed it solo on her first try!), and the prices are some of the best out there.
