Our personal favorite activity in Geneva was this Swiss chocolate tour. We visited five chocolatiers and a pastry shop, sampling over a dozen amazing treats. It was also a fun way to explore Old Town—and yes, we even got to smash a chocolate cauldron!
Day 1
Breakfast – Cottage Café
Since our first activity of the day involves eating lots of delicious Swiss treats and walking to Geneva’s top sights, it’s important that you get a solid breakfast beforehand. Only a 7-minute walk from the tour’s starting point, Cottage Café is a cozy breakfast joint with both indoor and outdoor seating. We recommend getting something light to eat alongside one of their killer cappuccinos.
It opens at 7:30 am, but the tour isn’t until 10 am, so you’ll have plenty of time. Just keep in mind that they are closed on Sundays!
Morning – See Geneva’s top sights and chocolate scene on a walking and tasting tour
I have a huge sweet tooth, so of course I had to indulge in this Swiss chocolate tour the first time we came to Geneva! Make sure to book the 10 am option (the tour lasts for 3 hours) so you have time to do more fun activities later on in the day.
From the very first stop, I was blown away by the quality of Swiss chocolate. Our guide, Paul, was incredibly knowledgeable and shared fascinating history about Geneva’s chocolate scene. We visited five chocolatiers and a pastry shop, sampling over a dozen rich treats—pralines, truffles, even an award-winning cake!
The tour wasn’t just about chocolate—it was also a great way to explore Geneva. We strolled through charming Old Town, learned local history from Paul, and even saw Saint Pierre Cathedral, built over the tomb of a Gallic chieftain. Partway through, we took a short boat ride across Lake Geneva, which offered beautiful views and a fun break between tastings.
For me, the highlight was participating in the local tradition of smashing a chocolate cauldron full of Marmite. It was so much fun, and I loved learning about how this quirky custom came to be.

Afternoon – Relax on a private Lake Geneva cruise
While you probably took a quick 10-minute ride across the lake in the first tour, it’s far too short for a lake that has some stunning views of Geneva. So it’s time to hop back on a boat for this 1.5-hour cruise, but this time, you’ll get way more views as well as an apéritif to help digest all that chocolate you just ate.
Book the 2 pm tour to give yourself an easy hour to reach the docks—it’s a 20-minute walk, 3-minute drive, or 15 minutes by bus. I do recommend getting familiar with public transportation since it’s cheap, safe, and goes all over the city. Snacks are included, so you can probably skip lunch, unless you’re hungry.
As for the cruise itself, you are in for an absolute treat! There’s a lot to see from the lake, and Captain Julian was more than happy to answer all of our questions. He also set out a lovely spread of meat, cheese, and crackers for us to indulge in while we went from place to place.
Some of the highlights were the beautiful Mon-Repos Park, Bains des Paquis Beach, and the Jet d’Eau fountain. We even got the chance to jump into the water for a swim—don’t forget to bring a bathing suit!
This was a great way to relax after a morning of walking, and Julian really made us feel welcome. Plus, you can never go wrong with a cruise that includes snacks and drinks!

Late afternoon – Explore on your own
You’ve got a fondue dinner and scenic tuk-tuk ride lined up around 8 pm, but until then, why not explore a few spots that most tours skip? These gems are easy to see on your own and give you a deeper feel for Geneva’s unique character.
Here are a few of our favorite places to check out:
- UN Headquarters: Seeing the UN Headquarters is super interesting since so many world events revolve around this international organization. On top of that, it’s just a cool building! Sadly, you won’t have time to tour it, but it’s worth going to see and snapping a picture of.
- Patek Philippe Museum: Switzerland is considered to be the best watchmaking country in the world, so visiting the Patek Philippe Museum is a super cool inside look into the craft. Starting in the 16th century, Patek Philippe is one of the best watch-making companies to date.
- Reformation Wall: The Reformation Wall is a striking monument built into the old city walls to honor the leaders of the Protestant Reformation. Featuring towering statues of figures like John Calvin and John Knox, it symbolizes Geneva’s pivotal role in the religious movement. This is a great stop for history buffs!
- Botanical Gardens: The Botanical Gardens are a lush sanctuary showcasing over 12,000 plant species across 28 hectares. It offers a journey through themed gardens, greenhouses, and even a small zoo. It’s a wonderful way to spend an hour or two and unwind.
Have a fondue dinner in a tuk-tuk
Sightseeing around Geneva in a tuk-tuk, eating fondue. Need I say more? Seriously, this private tuk-tuk dinner tour is one of those things that you’ll be telling everyone about when you get back home! It has tons of available time slots and only takes an hour and a half, making it the perfect evening activity.
Something we loved about this experience was that we cruised around in an electric tuk-tuk, making it easy to hear each other as well as our guide. It also meant no petrol fumes to interfere with the incredible fondue we were eating. It’s a small thing that makes a big difference!
Since we went in the evening, we got to visit places like Saint Peter’s Cathedral, Grand Théâtre de Genève, and Mont Blanc Bridge, all lit up. Seeing its beauty with a drink in hand while dipping fresh fruit, vegetables, and bread in Swiss fondue was a five-star experience for us. We had the option to purchase a full bottle of wine, which we ended up doing because, well, why not?
Between the warm food, sparkling city views, and cozy vibe of the tuk-tuk, this felt more like a date night than a tour—and honestly, that’s what made it unforgettable.

Day 2
Visit the highest peak in the Alps – Mont Blanc
Get excited, because today we have some world-class mountain adventure coming your way. This full-day trip to Chamonix and Mont Blanc in France was breathtaking and the easiest way to admire the Swiss, French, and Italian Alps.
The day starts at 8:30 am at a local bus station, so get up plenty early for coffee and breakfast before making your way there.
We absolutely loved riding the cable car to Aiguille du Midi. The views of Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, and the Grand Jorasses were absolutely spectacular. We felt like we were on top of the world! Then, we had some free time to explore the charming Alpine town of Chamonix, and ended up grabbing lunch at a cute local restaurant.
The adventure didn’t stop there, though. In the afternoon, we took the historic cogwheel train up to Mer de Glace, which is the largest glacier in France. We even got to explore the famous ice caves here, which is a surreal experience that you just cannot miss!
This tour is an amazing (and effortless) way to discover the incredible scenery of the French Alps. We had so much fun, and would recommend it to anyone who doesn’t have time for an overnight stay in the area. Dinner – Table Brut Métropole
It’s been a whirlwind two days in Geneva, and after that full day tour, I’m willing to bet you’ll be plenty hungry. We want to keep things easy, so head to Table Brute Métropole in the heart of Old Town for a delicious last meal in Geneva. It’s only a 12-minute walk from the bus station where the last tour ends or a 5-minute bus ride. It is closed on Saturday and Sunday (most restaurants are in Geneva), so keep that in mind before going there.
This French restaurant does not disappoint with menu highlights like honey-glazed duck, gnocchi, and espresso ice cream. You can’t go wrong with anything! So treat yourself to a glass of wine and one of the best dinners in the city for your last night in Geneva.

Renting a Car in Europe
Exploring Europe by car is a fantastic way to uncover hidden gems—think charming villages, scenic countryside, and off-the-beaten-path spots that trains and buses might miss. Driving here is generally straightforward, but it’s good to be prepared for some regional quirks.

Tips for Renting a Car in Europe
