There are SOOOO many hotels in Puerto Escondido that it can be hard to know which one to choose for your trip! That’s why in this blog, I’ve outlined the 3 BEST Puerto Escondido hotels categorized by budget. So, no matter if you’re looking for luxury or want the best deal possible, I’ve picked out the BEST hotels for you including what makes them so amazing!
Puerto Escondido, Mexico is quickly becoming a very popular tourist destination. For Mexicans and international travelers alike, it is the ultimate holiday destination offering amazing beaches, wildlife, and exciting things to do.
But with that comes a problem.
There are a lot of hotels. And while that is great, it also makes choosing just one for your trip a little tricky.
So, after visiting Puerto Escondido myself and staying in a few different hotels, speaking to other travelers, and researching TONS of reviews I’ve compiled this list of the absolute top Puerto Escondido hotels.
I’ve also split them up into three categories so that there is something affordable and appealing no matter what type of traveler you are – “luxury hotels” for travelers who want to indulge and relax, “mid-range” hotels for those who want comfort and a nice stay without paying for small extras, and then “budget hotels” for those who are on a tight budget but still need a decent nights rest.
So, no matter what your budget or travel style is, you’ll be able to easily decide where to stay in Puerto Escondido.
Don’t have time to read the full article? We were thrilled with our stay at Casa Losodeli. They have everything from shared dorms to apartments, so there’s something for everyone’s budget. The staff are incredibly helpful, the grounds are stunning, and it’s in a central location so it’s easy to get around. Just a heads up, this is an adults only location so please keep that in mind before booking.
Where to Stay in Puerto Escondido: The BEST Areas

There are a few different areas to choose from when deciding where to stay in Puerto Escondido. All of the best areas to stay are near a beach, it’s just a matter of deciding which beach you want to stay closest to. Below I’ve described a few of the best areas to stay in Puerto Escondido so you can decide which is best for you.
Near Playa Carrizalillo/Central Puerto Escondido
This is the area we stayed and I personally loved it. We were within walking distance to Playa Carrizalillo, close to the market and local restaurants, and away from the busy streets, but still only a 40 peso ($2 USD) taxi to Playa Zicatela!
This area is best for those on a budget who want to be only a walk away from local shops and restaurants. The only downside is that none of the hotels in this area are right on the beach since Playa Carrizalillo is only accessible by a very large staircase.
We stayed at Casa Losodeli and loved every second of our stay. It had a huge outdoor pool surrounded by beautiful gardens. We stayed in the one-bedroom apartment so we could cook, but they had a large selection of rooms to choose from. The owner was one of the nicest people we have ever met (and no, she didn’t know we were bloggers.) Truthfully, you can’t go wrong staying here.
Playa Zicatela
This is the largest beach area in Puerto Escondido and where the majority of the hotels, bars, and restaurants are. However, you can’t really swim at the beach here because of the rough swells and it has no shade. But if you’re after nightlife and restaurants then look no further.
Hotel Rockaway is located just across the street from Playa Zicatela. It features a large pool and fitness center. The reviews are flawless and the price is super reasonable.
For something a little cheaper, check out the Selina. It is a top-notch hostel with everything from budget dorms to fancy private rooms. You get a better bang for your buck in this area.
Playa Punta
This is the beach area to the south of Zicatela but still part of the same bay. This area has more of a “hippy vibe” but is still within walking distance of the main area of Zicatela.
Punta Zicatela Hotel is one of the top-rated properties in all of Puerto Escondido. With two pools (indoor and outdoor) and a rooftop bar with superb views, you really can’t go wrong. It is super cheap too but has all the creature comforts you’d expect from a beautiful hotel.
All the hotels in these areas come up in search under Puerto Escondido so use the map on Booking.com and select hotels in the area you want to stay.

3 Best Luxury Hotels in Puerto Escondido
When I say luxury, I mean luxury! Even a small surf town like Puerto Escondido has some incredible hotels to offer guests who want to indulge, relax, and pamper themselves for a few days!
And the best part?
These luxurious Puerto Escondido hotels truly are not that pricey. In fact, the prices are really reasonable in comparison to everything they include and offer!
Below are my top picks for luxury-style hotels in Puerto Escondido (3 to 4 stars) ranging in location and price from about $100 USD a night all the way to over $300!
1. Posada Real Puerto Escondido

Photo Credit: Posada Real Puerto Escondido
- Location: Beachfront property at Playa Bacocho, a 5-minute taxi from town.
- Cost: $214 USD +
- Why I love it: Ideal location near the beach, suitable for families with a playground, games room, and two outdoor pools.
I needed to start this list with one of the best of the best, and Posada Real Puerto Escondido is just that!
To start off with, the location is the perfect mix of relaxing a area to hang out, accessibility to the town, and the beach! It is a beachfront hotel right at Playa Bacocho. The beach is pristine and while it has some waves (great for beginner surfers or those on a boogie board) they aren’t too strong and swimming is still possible.
This is also the beach where there is a daily turtle release (which is definitely one of the best things to do in Puerto Escondido!)
Posada Real Puerto Escondido is also only a 5-minute taxi ride from the town center of Puerto Escondido, or 10-15 minutes from Playa Zicatela – ideally located away from the hustle and bustle but not too far either!
Secondly, they have outstanding reviews and amenities to impress including two gorgeous outdoor pools, a tennis court, a children’s playground, and a restaurant and bar! It’s one of the best luxury hotels that also caters to families with children.

2. Hotel Santa Fe

- Location: Steps away from Zicatela Beach, only a couple blocks away from the main street of bars and restaurants in Zicatela
- Cost: $106 USD +
- Why I love it: Beautiful garden and pool just steps from the beach (with beach views!)
Hotel Santa Fe is a smaller hotel, but that doesn’t mean it compromises on luxury! The staff here will make you feel like family and are more than willing to help with anything and everything you need!
The location is also perfect for a hotel in Puerto Escondido. It is located right on Zicatela beach with ocean views. But with that said, it is a couple of minute’s walk from the busiest area in Zicatela meaning it’s peaceful and quiet – but still close to all the action!
The rooms are also all large and decorated tastefully in a Mexican style. All rooms have air conditioning and a balcony. For the ultimate luxury getaway, be sure to book the Junior Suite with a sea view – just gorgeous!
They have an outdoor pool, a stunning garden, and a restaurant.
You also can’t go wrong with the price here! It’s the cheapest price out of my luxury hotel picks in Puerto Escondido.

3. Villas Carrizalillo

- Location: On the cliff above Carrizalillo Beach. Only blocks away from restaurants and cafes, own private staircase access to the beach.
- Cost: $200 USD +
- Why I love it: Amazing view of the ocean and sunsets, great beach access, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly boutique hotel vibe.
Villas Carrizalillo has the best view of sunset out of all of the hotels in Puerto Escondido! Located directly above Playa Carrizalillo (with its own staircase access) the views are simply unmatched by anywhere else around. The outdoor decks featuring hammocks as well as sea view rooms are ideal for enjoying the scenery.
It is beachfront, but you do have to climb down (and back up after) a few sets of stairs. But for me, this is not a problem as it accesses one of the best beaches for swimming, and the most beautiful beach bays in the entire area, Playa Carrizalillo.
This hotel also offers a wide range of rooms in order to suit couples, families, or larger groups. Some of the rooms have huge living areas and a full kitchen, while others feature a bed and a refrigerator. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning.
There is also an outdoor pool and an on-site restaurant with spectacular reviews.
Only a couple blocks away, you’ll find tons of restaurants, shops, and beautiful cafes. To me, this is absolutely one of the best Puerto Escondido hotels offering a great combination of comfort, location, and luxury!

BEST Value Hotels in Puerto Escondido (mid-range budget $40-$85)
I love hotels in this price range. To me, it is where you are most likely going to get the best bang for your buck!
Why?
Well, because these Puerto Escondido hotels are still gorgeous, have air conditioning and pools, and are still going to amazing places to stay in Puerto Escondido. They are just cheaper than the luxury ones mentioned above!
To me, they are the best deal or the “best value” hotels in Puerto Escondido. Here are my top three picks!
4. Hotel Rockaway

- Location: Across the road from Zicatela Beach (perfect for surfing, restaurants, shopping, and nightlife.)
- Cost: $75 USD +
- Why I love it: Beautiful outdoor pool, central location, amazing value for money!
Hotel Rockaway is the perfect combination of luxury and excitement when it comes to Puerto Escondido hotels. This gorgeous hotel is located right in the thick of it all across the road from Zicatela Beach. This area is famous for incredible surf and tons of amazing restaurants and bars (with great nightlife!)
If you want somewhere you can walk out your front door to all the excitement that is Puerto Escondido, then this is it!
But at the same time, Hotel Rockaway is a luxurious escape.
There is an outdoor pool as well as an onsite bar and restaurant. All rooms are air-conditioned and include a lovely breakfast.
And this is one of the places I was talking about when I said comfort and a bit of luxury didn’t have to come with an outrageous price. You can score one of their double rooms for as little as $85 USD a night!
You check prices, reviews, and book Hotel Rockway online here.
5. Casa Losodeli

- Location: Central Puerto Escondido, near the markets. 10-minute walk to Playa Carrizalillo or a short taxi ride to Playa Zicatela.
- Cost: $25 USD for budget dorms and more expensive double rooms and apartments are also available.
- Why I loved it: Friendly staff, clean, beautiful pool, and garden, co-working space.
Ah, Casa Losodeli… where do I start with this one. I know I shouldn’t pick favorites (as all of these hotels are my favorites) but, if I had to pick just one, this would be it!
Liz and her staff are incredible. So friendly and helpful, they keep the place incredibly clean, and they go above and beyond to make sure you’re having a great stay.
The large range of rooms available means there is something for everyone. They have budget dorms for backpackers all the way up to a one-bedroom apartment complete with a kitchen and balcony overlooking the pool (this is where we stayed recently and loved it!)
The pool is set in a gorgeous garden. There is also a cafe on-site that offers amazing breakfast and coffee at super affordable prices. And in the evenings, the bar opens up creating a nice social atmosphere among international travelers.
Casa Losedeli isn’t located on the beach but it is very conveniently located in the center of town only a couple of blocks from a large supermarket as well as the famous markets! A ten-minute walk will have you at Playa Carrizalillo and a ten-minute taxi ride will have you at Playa Zicatela.
It is an adults-only hotel meaning it isn’t suitable for families. Personally, I liked this as it made a relaxed vibe without any children running around. I could peacefully nap in a hammock whenever I wanted!
If I return to Puerto Escondido, I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

- Cost: $110 USD +
- Why I love it: Small bed and breakfast where the local owners are your hosts, huge pool, clean, and lots of luxury details throughout to maximize guest comfort.
This bed and breakfast is run by a lovely couple, Paul and Luisa who welcome their guest like family. They are incredibly friendly and make the experience of staying at a small locally owned and operated bed and breakfast more special than that of a large hotel chain.
Rooms are large and equipped with air conditioning and mini-refrigerators. A beautiful organic breakfast is included in the nightly price.
There is a large pool on the property although you may not even need seeing as you will be located only a couple of blocks away from a beautiful and quiet beach.
Villa Maria’s location is ideal for those looking for a relaxing beach escape without being too far away from town. Only a short 5-10 minute taxi will have you in the heart of Puerto Escondido.
