Our Viator Discount Code
Booking tours with Viator makes your travel days easier – hands down! We often book our experiences through Viator because it’s a convenient way to dive into local culture or an adventurous activity. It’s also handy if you don’t speak the language… hablas español? No? Me either! But booking ahead of time on Viator helps us check off all our bucket list experiences when we are in a new place, and Cancun is full of amazing tours!
After visiting Cancun for ourselves and going on our fair share of tours, we know that this isn’t always a cheap trip! So I’m pleased to tell you that we’ve secured a discount for our readers.

Best Tours in Cancun
Chichen Itza, Cenote, and Valladolid Tour
Chichen Itza are some of the most famous Mayan ruins in Mexico, and you can get to them on a day trip from Cancun! While there are plenty of Chichen Itza tours from Cancun, we personally went on this top-rated full-day tour with over 16,000 5-star reviews (check out all the reviews here!).
One of the reasons we love booking tours on Viator is so we can read reviews and not get scammed, something you might be concerned about when traveling to Cancun. While this doesn’t happen all the time, we prefer to book our tours through Viator just to be safe. This tour was a great experience and such a fun way to dive into the history and culture of the Yucatan Peninsula.
We left the Cancun Hotel Zone bright and early, to beat the crowds and heat. Luckily, the tour provides hotel pick up so it was a pretty easy morning. We had two hours to explore the Mayan ruins, some of it was guided, but I really enjoyed exploring on our own – it is stunning!
It quickly got hot at the ruins, so we were thankful the next stop was swimming in a cenote. This was stunning in an entirely different way, and we took in the views as we had a buffet lunch. Our final stop for the day was at the quaint and charming town of Valladolid. This is a “magic town” and we learned about its vibrant history from our guide as we wandered through the cobblestone streets.
I recommend booking the all-inclusive option, which provides entrance fees to Chichen Itza and the cenote, lunch, and transportation for $169 USD per person.

Swim with whale sharks
One of the best things to do in Cancun is enjoy that crystal clear water and unique marine life! Of course, you can go snorkeling or on boat tours, but if you want to kick it up a notch, you can go swimming with whale sharks. Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it sounds because whale sharks aren’t technically sharks – they are the largest fish in the world! Regardless of the animal classification, this is a true bucket list experience in Cancun.
These unique creatures aren’t found near the touristy coast – they know better than that. So you have to take a boat tour to reach the smaller islands near Cancun, where the whale sharks like to hang out. I recommend this full-day whale shark tour, it’s the most convenient way to reach the islands and is an overall incredible tour. I would know – I did it for myself!
Our tour was led by an expert biologist who spoke English and Spanish, so we learned a ton of information about whale sharks and other plants and animals. Plus, our guide knows exactly where to find these magnificent creatures. I was happy to learn that the whale sharks are friendly and harmless to humans, they are even vegetarians so they won’t nibble on your toes as you swim – I promise!
Another fun part of this tour was having lunch off the coast of Isla Mujeres. The scenery was amazing, the food was delicious, and we had a relaxing swim afterward.
The best time of year to see whale sharks is from mid-May to mid-September. The tour takes care of all necessities for the day, including snorkeling equipment, life vests, lunch, and roundtrip transportation from your hotel for $189 USD. If you want to buy any alcoholic drinks or snacks, be sure to have some cash with you.
If you want to secure this memorable experience with a 5% discount – book it here.
Go on a sailing trip to Isla Mujeres
If you’re looking for an island paradise, you don’t have to look far! Isla Mujeres is a 20-minute boat ride off the coast of Cancun and it is one of my places to visit. With white sand beaches, colorful buildings, and bright blue water to match, you will want to stay here all day.
Luckily, you can spend most of the day enjoying this Caribbean paradise. This luxury catamaran tour takes you to Isla Mujeres, equipped with an open bar, lunch, snorkeling, and time to be a beach bum.
The first part of the tour was so relaxing, as we grabbed a drink (it’s 5 o’clock somewhere) to take in the views. We had some time to get out and snorkel, and I was impressed by the brightly colored coral and tropical fish all around. By the time we got out, our guides had laid out an impressive lunch spread, perfect to refuel after all that swimming and drinking!
Once we reached Isla Mujeres, we had the option to join a guided tour or explore on our own. We used this time to head to the beach and see the white sand, then wander through the colorful streets on our own.
We thought this was a well-organized tour and a good price for all it includes. For $149 USD, we had a wonderful lunch, lots of drinks, all of our snorkel gear and dock fees covered, and our crew was so fun. I’d highly recommend this tour! This is the highest-rated Isla Mujeres tour with over 2,000 5-star reviews, so don’t wait to book.

Cancun Taco Tour
You can’t come to Mexico without doing a food tour! There are too many amazing foods to try, and tacos reign as king… well in my opinion they do. This food and beer tour is one of the best ways to get off the main tourist track and find a tastier side of Cancun, and it’s heaps of fun.
This tour stands out because you’ll stop by five different taco spots to find authentic Mexico City-style and Yucatan-style tacos. Our tour guide knew all the history of tacos and how they are different from region to region. But best of all, he knew the local spots to find the very best tacos. They were so good I still think about the flavors today.
We got to skip the lines too, which maximized our tasting time. At each new place we went, we were greeted with a taco and a beer, in true Mexican hospitality! Some of the tacos we tried were Pibil pulled pork tacos, juicy steak, street tacos with a meat combo, churros, and my favorite – al pastor. They also have a vegetarian menu available, just be sure to request it ahead of time!
This tour lasted for 4.5 hours and left us full and smiling. We thought it was well priced at $89 USD, including all your food, drinks, transportation, and guides. It was definitely an experience to remember and one of the top tours in Cancun for a reason.
Don’t forget to book this tour using our link below to secure the 5% discount.

Day trip to Tulum
Okay, this next one isn’t technically in Cancun, but it takes off from Cancun and is a necessary addition to the list. Tulum is a gorgeous seaside city, about 130 kilometers (80 miles) from Cancun. This town is considered one of the most beautiful places in Mexico, and once you see the ancient Mayan ruins standing alongside the Caribbean blue ocean, I’m sure you’ll agree.
The easiest way to get there is by taking this full-day tour from Cancun to Tulum. Not only is it much more convenient than renting a car and driving yourself, but you’ll also be able to learn about the unique history and landscape from the guide. This tour has thousands of glowing reviews and hits the highlights of Tulum, we personally loved this tour!
We got to visit the famous Tulum Ruins that sit on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea. While Chichen Itza was impressive, these ruins were impressive in a totally different way. After we got our history fill, we walked down to the beach, boarded a boat, and went snorkeling! I saw massive turtles, colorful coral, and hundreds of tropical fish. The final stop was snorkeling in a cenote in the Yucatan rainforest, which was an entirely different experience.
This is easily one of the best day trips from Cancun, and a must if you’re not traveling around the Yucatan after Cancun – you can’t skip Tulum! This tour is $129 USD and includes everything you’ll need for the day except the $15 USD marine reserve fee, so bring some cash.

ATV jungle adventure with ziplines, cenote, and tequila tasting
Cancun isn’t only lazy beach days and margaritas. There are a lot of exciting excursions to go on too! I loved this Extreme Adventure Eco Park Tour for a day of ATV riding, ziplining, and cenote swimming. When we did this tour, they even let us cliff jump and zipline into the cenote – perfect for adrenaline junkies like us.
This whole experience is 4 hours, so it was easy to fit into our busy travel schedule. My favorite part was the 50-minute ATV ride through the jungle, we got some incredible views. After that, we soared above the trees on the zipline course and then cooled off in the cenote. We were also treated to some tacos and tequila tasting as if this day could get even more fun!
Kids 4 and older can join the fun, so this is a great family activity or if you’re traveling with a group of friends. The tour picked us up from our hotel in Cancun, but you can also meet at the eco-park if you’d rather. We thought this experience was well priced at $72 USD for a single-rider ATV.
Last but not least, our guides were fantastic and made this experience fun, while ensuring our safety! Check out the 3,000 positive reviews here, and don’t wait to book this epic experience!

Why We Book Tours Through Viator
Free cancellation on most tours
Booking tours through Viator provides a lot of convenient options, but one of the most convenient parts is the free cancellation policy. Many of the tours listed on Viator include the option to cancel your tour for a full refund 24 hours before your tour takes off. Keep in mind that not all tours allow this, but most do!
This lets you book your tour in advance to secure your spot, and still have the flexibility to cancel or change your tour up to a day before it departs. You’ll receive a full refund if you cancel within this window. I’ve used this feature when booking popular tours months in advance before I even had my travel plans set in stone. Or if you book a tour that’s weather dependent and it’s looking grim, you can easily cancel it – it’s that easy!
Reserve now and pay later
Another helpful feature of Viator is that they offer reserve now, pay later options on most tours (again, not all, so double check). Besides using our amazing discount on your Cancun tours, you can use this reserve now, pay later option to help break up the cost of expensive tours.
Many of these popular experiences can be booked weeks or months before your travel dates. So I like to reserve my tour well in advance, then pay in increments to help break up the expenses. By the time the tour date comes around, your travel budget isn’t completely depleted!
Lowest price guarantee
Another way to save money on your travels is by utilizing Viator’s lowest-price guarantee. I think it’s really cool that they offer this feature because if you find a tour at a lower price on offer, VIator will price match it. You don’t have to jump through hoops to get a refund either, it’s a pretty straightforward process.
Once you book your Viator tour, you will submit your booking number and proof of the lower-cost tour via email. Viator will review the information and if it’s all good, they will send you a refund. The steps and email address are listed on each tour, so it’s not a hidden secret.
Of course, another way to save money is to use the links in this blog to save 5% on your Cancun tours. You don’t have to spend heaps of money to have fun experiences while in Mexico!
Pay in your chosen currency
It’s pretty common to get hit with international fees when traveling internationally, especially if you’re paying for currency conversion! This is yet another reason why I love booking Viator tours, as you can pay in your home currency and save money on international transaction fees. All of those little fees really add up, so I was surprised at how much money I’ve saved just by booking tours on Viator rather than in the country.
Peace of mind
Ultimately, booking tours through Viator makes our travel days easier! I always have less stress when I know that I have the flexibility to cancel or change my tours if I need to and that I get the best deal possible. Viator does a good job of holding the tour companies to a high standard, ensuring they provide detailed descriptions of the tours and that we actually get what we pay for.
I also appreciate reading fellow travelers’ reviews, which give an honest portrayal of how the tour is! It helps me decide if this is a rockstar tour and worth my time/money, or helps me stay away from mediocre tours. Overall, I’ve had great experiences booking tours on Viator, and the overall peace of mind that it provides keeps me coming back!
Is Booking a Tour Through Viator Worth It?
