Dubrovnik may be small, but it’s a city of contrasts, which means that each neighborhood offers something very different. And with everything from medieval alleys to pristine beaches and forested peninsulas on offer, picking where to stay can certainly be tricky! 

I’ve explored Dubrovnik’s diverse neighborhoods many times, and now I’ve rounded up the best areas to stay to help you plan your perfect trip, with hotel picks for every budget. Whether you’re a history buff, a luxury traveler, or looking for something more budget-friendly, I’m here to help you find your perfect home base in Dubrovnik.

Overview of the Best Areas To Stay in Dubrovnik

One of the best things about Dubrovnik is that it’s surprisingly compact, so wherever you stay, you won’t be too far from the action! The Old Town, Pile, and Ploče are all walkable from one another, while Lapad, Babin Kuk, Gruž, and Montovjerna are typically only around a 10-minute drive away. Getting around is a breeze, too—local buses connect the main neighborhoods for just a few euros, and Uber is widely available.

The one thing to keep in mind is Dubrovnik’s terrain. Ploče, Montovjerna, and parts of Pile are built into the hillside, while the Old Town has plenty of stairs and is completely pedestrian-only. This means you’ll be carrying your luggage from the nearest gate, and many of the historic buildings don’t have elevators. It’s all part of the charm, but definitely something to know before you book!

If you’d rather have flatter streets and modern amenities, Lapad and Babin Kuk are great choices, with larger hotels, resorts, pools, and easy beach access.

Now that we’ve got the logistics out of the way, let’s get to the fun part! Below, you’ll find a quick overview of each area, followed by an in-depth look at each area and my top hotel recommendations. Let’s dive in!

• Old Town – Best for first-time visitors – Stay in Old Town if you want Dubrovnik’s main sights and historic streets right outside your door. Scalini Palace is my top pick here, with stylish suites inside a renovated 16th-century building.

• Pile – Best for convenience – Pile sits just outside the Old Town walls, so it’s a great choice if you want to be close to everything without staying right in the busiest part of the city. Seven Stars Accommodation Dubrovnik offers modern, comfortable rooms just a short walk from Pile Gate.

• Lapad – Best for beaches and relaxation – Lapad is ideal if you want to spend plenty of time by the sea while still being close to the Old Town. Hotel Uvala has comfortable rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, and a gorgeous wellness center.

• Ploče – Best for luxury travelers – Ploče is known for its beautiful views across the Adriatic and the Old Town. Villa Allure of Dubrovnik is a really atmospheric hotel just a short walk from the historic center, with stone rooms filled with character and amazing ocean views.

• Babin Kuk – Best for families – Babin Kuk is a quieter, resort-style area known for its beaches and family-friendly hotels. Royal Neptun Hotel has sea-view rooms, several pools, and direct access to the water.

• Gruž – Best for budget travelers – Gruž is a practical choice for lower hotel prices, local restaurants, and easy access to the ferry port and bus station. Berkeley Hotel is a friendly, family-run spot with spacious, modern rooms and an outdoor pool.

• Montovjerna – Best for a quieter stay – Montovjerna is a residential area between the Old Town and Lapad, so it’s a good base if you want somewhere quiet that doesn’t feel totally cut off. Villa Orabelle is a gorgeous hotel with sea views all around and a sleek infinity pool.

Old Town

BEST FOR FIRST-TIME VISITORS

Pros

• Walking distance to main attractions
• Unique medieval atmosphere

• Limited vehicle access, lots of stairs, and narrow streets
• Hotels can be pricier due to the prime location

I stayed in Dubrovnik’s Old Town on my most recent trip with my partner, and we both loved being so central! Having the city walls, Rector’s Palace, the Franciscan Monastery, and tons of restaurants right outside of our door made the entire trip so easy. It was also great to be able to pop back to our room whenever we needed to.

However, the Old Town is completely pedestrian-only, so when we arrived, our taxi couldn’t drop us directly outside of our hotel. Fortunately, we didn’t have a ton of luggage – if we had, it would have been a pretty rough start to the trip! 

Stradun, the main street, is flat, but many of the streets leading away from it involve multiple sets of stairs. And wow, I could definitely feel those stairs in my calves after a few days! Looking for accommodation close to Stradun can definitely help to minimize all of the climbing, but if mobility is a concern, I’d still recommend asking your hotel exactly how many stairs are involved before you book, both to get to the property and once you’re inside. A lot of the old buildings here don’t have elevators! 

Still, the stairs often come with a payoff. Our room was high above the main street and had fantastic views over the Old Town’s rooftops. For a first visit to Dubrovnik, it’s hard to beat the convenience and experience of staying inside the walls!

The Pucic Palace – $$$

The Pucic Palace is a slice of history right in the heart of Dubrovnik’s Old Town. It’s a stunning 5-star hotel housed in an 18th-century baroque palace, so it’s got plenty of period charm! The rooms here are spacious and beautifully furnished, featuring plush bedding and lots of antique touches, as well as luxurious Bvlgari toiletries in the bathrooms.

Some rooms even offer balconies overlooking Gundulić Square, which is perfect for a morning coffee with a view of the bustling market below. There’s also an alfresco dining terrace where you can savor gourmet Mediterranean dishes, as well as a cozy bar that’s perfect for a nightcap.

Rooms typically range from €500 to €900 per night, depending on your room choice and the season.

Prijeko Palace is another lovely boutique option if you want to stay right in the heart of the Old Town. It’s set inside a beautifully restored 15th-century palace and its design balances Baroque style against more modern elements – plus, there’s an excellent restaurant downstairs if you don’t fancy venturing far for dinner!

Alternatively, The Byron is a great choice if you’re after something a little more modern without giving up that unbeatable Old Town location. It’s just a short walk from Dubrovnik’s top attractions, with spacious, airy rooms that provide a comfortable place to recharge after a busy day of sightseeing.

Scalini Palace – $$

Scalini Palace is an unbeatable pick in Dubrovnik’s Old Town. It’s set inside a renovated 16th-century manor just a few steps from Stradun, so you’ll have many of the city’s main sights right on your doorstep!

The suites are modern and air-conditioned, with a kitchenette, dining area, and private bathroom. Some also have furnished balconies overlooking the Old Town, which is perfect for enjoying coffee with a view in the morning.

Rooms typically cost between €250 and €380 per night, which is good value for such a central Old Town location.

Bota Palace is a gorgeous boutique stay inside an 18th-century palace, with just a handful of stylish rooms and an unbeatable location steps from Stradun. Breakfast is included, and I love that you get the character of a historic Dubrovnik building without sacrificing modern comforts.

7oaks Noble House is another fantastic option if you want to stay right in the heart of the Old Town. The rooms are modern, spacious, and beautifully finished, while the location puts restaurants and Dubrovnik’s main sights just steps away—and guests rave about how surprisingly quiet it is!

Guesthouse Rustico – $

Guesthouse Rustico is where my partner and I stayed on our recent trip to Dubrovnik, and it’s a charming, affordable option right in the heart of the Old Town. The building dates back to the 14th century, making it more than 600 years old, so staying here really does feel like being part of the city’s history.

Our room was simple but comfortable, with a mini fridge and tea and coffee-making facilities. We also had a fantastic view and could even see Fort Lovrijenac from the window, which was amazing! I would definitely stay here again.

With that being said, I wouldn’t recommend this guesthouse for anyone with limited mobility or lots of luggage. There are lots of steps to reach the guesthouse, followed by more stairs inside the building, and even more within our room!

Still, I loved staying here. Its central location, historic setting, and gorgeous views make it an ideal budget choice, as long as you don’t mind the climb!

Franciscan Rooms is such a unique budget stay, with just six rooms tucked inside a historic 14th-century Franciscan monastery complex right in the Old Town. Despite the central location, it has peaceful gardens and a terrace where you can escape the bustle after a day of sightseeing.

Casa Rosa is a stylish option near the Old Town Harbor, with modern rooms that still incorporate beautiful exposed stone walls. Breakfast is included, and you’re just a couple of minutes from some of Dubrovnik’s biggest sights—pretty amazing for the price!

Pile

BEST FOR CONVENIENCE

Pros

• Easy access to the Old Town and main attractions
• Quieter than staying inside the Old Town walls
• Scenic views and green spaces

Cons

• Still busy during peak season due to its proximity to the Old Town
• Limited nightlife compared to other areas
• Fewer shopping options compared to the Old Town

Located just outside the city walls, Pile is one of the most convenient and historic areas to stay in Dubrovnik. It’s named after the iconic Pile Gate, which is one of the main entrances to the Old Town, so you get plenty of medieval charm but a bit of a quieter feel.

Pile is perfect for travelers who want to be close to all the major attractions but crave a little breathing room at the end of the day. From here, you can stroll through the Pile Gate and step right into the heart of Dubrovnik’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, or simply soak up the atmosphere from the neighborhood’s leafy parks and cozy cafés. 

It’s also home to Fort Lovrijenac, a stunning 11th-century fortress that offers sweeping views of the Adriatic and the city walls. And definitely don’t miss a walk along the pedestrian promenade near the water, especially at sunset!

Another thing that I like about Pile is that it’s well-connected by local buses. And since it’s built into the cliffside, a lot of the restaurants here offer fantastic views, especially the famous Nautika! But don’t worry, it’s not all fancy fare – there’s also plenty of casual street food around.

All in all, Pile is another area that works well for first-time visitors. I like that it showcases a quieter side of Dubrovnik, while still being very close to the action!

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik – $$$

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik is a 5-star hotel that does a great job of combining modern luxury with old-world opulence. It’s just steps away from the Pile Gate, so the location couldn’t be better, and many of the rooms offer gorgeous sea views.

What I like about this hotel is that the rooms feel very contemporary while the communal areas, such as the lobby, outdoor terrace, and restaurant, feel like they’ve been designed for 19th-century royalty. There’s also a wellness center with an indoor pool and sauna, and the complimentary breakfast buffet is the best possible way to start a day in Dubrovnik if you ask me!

Rooms typically range from around €550 to €1,500+ per night and go up depending on your room choice and season. It’s a splurge, but for a luxurious stay in Dubrovnik’s most convenient location, it’s well worth it.

Seven Stars Accommodation – $$

For a fantastic mid-range option in Pile, I recommend Seven Stars Accommodation Dubrovnik. It’s just a five-minute stroll from the Pile Gate and the Old Town’s bustling center, and it’s a modern guesthouse that offers cozy, air-conditioned rooms that feel like a home away from home. They also have tea and coffee makers, a desk, and free WiFi, so although it’s not uber-luxe, you’ll have everything you need for a comfy stay!

Some rooms even boast sea views or city views, which is what you want when you’re staying in a place as pretty as Dubrovnik. The staff is also known for being super friendly and helpful, and they’re happy to arrange airport transfers to make your stay that much easier. 

With rates starting from €70 to €220 per night, Seven Stars Accommodation is a smart choice for travelers who want a comfortable base that won’t break the bank. 

If Seven Stars is fully booked, no worries, because Luxury TownHouse Baba is another fantastic option in Pile! It’s right beside the Old Town without being inside its busy walls, with modern rooms and a fantastic location between Pile Gate and Beach Šulić.

I also think that Rooms Posat is worth considering for its excellent location just 200 meters from the Old Town walls. The air-conditioned rooms have city views and tea and coffee-making facilities, plus there’s a large shared terrace overlooking Dubrovnik.

Eddie’s Sea View Rooms – $$ 

Eddie’s Sea View Rooms Old Town is a wallet-friendly gem just outside the Pile Gate, offering spectacular views of the Adriatic and a peaceful spot close to the vibrant heart of the city. The rooms here are cozy and spotlessly clean, with charming stone walls and modern amenities like air-conditioning, tea and coffee-making facilities, and free WiFi.

The location is hard to beat. Staying here puts you mere steps away from the Old Town, yet it’s still just far enough away to feel a lot quieter and more relaxing. And as the name suggests, the sea views from some rooms are a real highlight! And I would be remiss not to mention Eddie, the friendly owner and host, who’s always ready to help you with logistics and local tips.

Rooms typically range from €75 to €220 per night, making it a fantastic choice for those who want to soak up Dubrovnik’s historic charm on a budget. 

Veranda Rooms is another great budget-friendly choice just outside Pile Gate, making it easy to walk into the Old Town in just a few minutes. The rooms are pretty simple, but they’re bright and comfortable, and several have balconies with lovely views over the Adriatic.

Stone Elegance is a good option if you’re looking for an elegant apartment close to Dubrovnik’s main attractions. The rooms have modern furniture, but the wooden ceiling beams and stone walls offer plenty of character, and the location makes it easy to explore the Old Town and then retreat to somewhere more peaceful in the evening.

Lapad

BEST FOR BEACHES & RELAXATION

• Great beaches, resorts, and scenic waterfront areas

Cons

• Further from the Old Town, about a 10-minute bus or taxi ride
• Less nightlife and shopping compared to the city center

Laid-back Lapad is a charming neighborhood that offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Dubrovnik’s Old Town. Located about 3 km (1.9 miles) from the city center, I think it’s an ideal spot for families and travelers who want to escape the crowds, while still being close enough to easily do a bit of sightseeing!

This area is known for its beautiful coast, pedestrian-only promenade, and for having some of the best beaches in the city. Lapad Bay, with its calm waters and pebbly shores, is a popular spot for swimming and sunbathing, while Cava Beach is a more secluded cove that’s home to the luxurious Coral Beach Club.

Lapad is also home to several parks, and the main coastal part of the area is pedestrian-only, which is ideal when you’re traveling with kids. In fact, even though I wasn’t traveling with kids, I still appreciated being able to stroll around and enjoy the area’s beauty without having to worry about traffic!

Another thing I like about Lapad is that it offers the chance to see a more local side of Dubrovnik. While it’s not exactly unknown to tourists, it’s more residential, and there are more spots here that cater to locals. In short, for those wanting a mix of relaxation and activity, Lapad has you covered.

Hotel Dubrovnik Palace – $$$

Hotel Dubrovnik Palace is a fantastic choice if you’re looking for a luxury beach resort with plenty of facilities! It’s set on the Lapad Peninsula, so it enjoys a peaceful location away from the crowds, yet it’s still just a 20-minute bus ride from Dubrovnik’s Old Town. Better still, the bus stops right outside the hotel, so you can just head into the city whenever you want!

The rooms here are super sleek and beautifully designed, with private balconies overlooking the Adriatic and the Elaphite Islands. I also love the fact that there are four restaurants on site, as well as a beachfront bar, so you can walk right into the sea with your cocktail. Nothing says “vacation” quite like that, am I right?

Rooms here typically range from around €250 to €700 per night, depending on the season and room type.

Dubrovnik Luxury Residence – L’Orangerie is another great option in Lapad, especially for families or groups who want more space than a standard hotel room. The modern apartments come with fully equipped kitchens and washing machines, so it’s ideal for more of a self-catering experience, and you’ve also got Lapad Bay Beach and the bus stop for the Old Town very close by.

Alternatively, Boutique Hotel Kazbek is a lovely choice if you want something smaller with more historic charm. This 5-star boutique hotel is set inside a restored 16th-century residence and features a heated outdoor pool and sauna, so it all feels very grand!

Hotel Uvala – $$

For a perfect blend of relaxation and convenience in Lapad, Hotel Uvala delivers. Just a short stroll from the beach and surrounded by lush Mediterranean greenery, I think that this four-star hotel is a great pick for families or couples. The rooms are bright and comfortable, featuring balconies, air-conditioning, and modern bathrooms.

There’s also a wellness center which includes indoor and outdoor pools, as well as multiple saunas and a steam bath. I also think that the restaurant and summer terrace look very inviting – I wouldn’t mind eating my breakfast while enjoying views of Lapad Bay!

Local buses stop right outside the hotel, making it easy to get ot the Old Town in about 15 minutes. Rooms typically range from €130 to €350 per night, depending on the season and amenities included. 

Boutique Villa Filaus is another excellent choice in Lapad if you like a bit of grandeur but don’t want to break the bank! It’s located within walking distance of the beach and Lapad’s best restaurants, but it feels more like a country manor with its richly decorated rooms and pretty outdoor pool.

Or if you’re after a bit more of a wellness vibe, Hotel Sumratin is a top-rated option just a 3-minute walk from Lapad Bay Beach. It has a modern, elegant design with sleek rooms, a gorgeous spa, and an al fresco dining terrace with sea views.

Hotel Lapad – $$

Hotel Lapad is a historic gem that blends old-world charm with modern comforts. It overlooks Gruz Harbor and is surrounded by palm trees, so it feels very peaceful here. It’s ideal if you’re looking for a relaxing stay away from the hustle and bustle of the Old Town!

The bright, spacious rooms come with plush bedding and all of the modern touches you’d expect, like flat-screen TVs and air-con. A buffet breakfast is included in your stay, with local and international options available, and you can enjoy your food out on the garden terrace each morning, which sounds like a pretty lovely way to start the day. There’s also an à-la-carte restaurant and a cozy bar for drinks. 

The hotel’s location is convenient, too. It’s just a 10-minute bus ride to the Old Town and within walking distance of restaurants and beaches. Rooms here typically range from €120 to €300 per night, which is pretty good value for such a comfortable and scenic stay. 

Hotel Splendid is another great option in Lapad if you’re looking for a beachfront stay without the price tag of some of the larger resorts. It’s surrounded by Mediterranean gardens and just steps away from the beach, not to mention within walking distance of the cafés and restaurants along the Lapad promenade!

Ploče

BEST FOR LUXURY TRAVELERS

• Prices here are higher than in other areas
• Limited nightlife compared to the Old Town
• Some steep climbs and steps due to the hilltop location

Ploče is one of Dubrovnik’s most upscale and luxurious neighborhoods. It’s renowned for its breathtaking views of the Adriatic, and it generally caters to the luxury crowd. Some of Dubrovnik’s very best hotels are perched on cliffs overlooking the sparkling blue water, and they often come with infinity pools and private beach access. If you’re looking to splurge, this is the place to do it!

This area is also home to Banje Beach, a popular spot for sunbathing and swimming with a view of the city walls. Meanwhile, for the ultimate view over the city, you can head up to Mount Srđ on the Dubrovnik Cable Car, which is based in this area. Oh, and I can’t forget about the Revelin Fortress, which is located right next to the Ploče Gate.

The neighborhood is definitely more refined than other parts of Dubrovnik, with lots of fine dining restaurants and upscale bars. There’s an undeniably chic feel to it all, so if you’re looking for luxury, Ploče is definitely where you want to be!

Hotel Excelsior – $$$

Hotel Excelsior is a Dubrovnik icon! It blends five-star luxury with breathtaking views of the Adriatic and the Old Town’s medieval walls. Just a short walk from Ploče Gate and the Revelin Fortress, this elegant hotel is perfect for travelers who want top-tier amenities without sacrificing proximity to Dubrovnik’s rich history.

The rooms here are stylish and spacious, many with balconies that open up to panoramic sea views. And with plush beds, a wellness center, and attentive service, it’s easy to see why this spot is top-rated! It’s the ideal place to come back to and unwind after a busy day of exploring the city.

Dining on site is also a treat, with three restaurants serving everything from fresh seafood to Mediterranean classics. Rooms range from around €300 to €800 per night and rise depending on the view and season.

If Hotel Excelsior is fully booked, Villa Dubrovnik is another fantastic luxury option just a 15-minute walk from the Old Town, with a complimentary car transfer into the historic center during the summer. The spacious rooms have private balconies or terraces, most with views of the sea or Lokrum Island, while the hotel also has a beach, two restaurants, an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and full-service spa – what more could you need?

Villa Allure of Dubrovnik – $$

Villa Allure of Dubrovnik is a charming mid-range hotel that perfectly combines that irresistible old-world Mediterranean charm with modern comfort. Just a five-minute walk from the Old Town and perched near Banje Beach, this lovely villa is a peaceful escape in a prime location – what’s not to love?

Each of the cozy, air-conditioned rooms features traditional stone walls that give it a more elevated, atmospheric feel. Meanwhile, the plush bedding and spacious bathrooms definitely add a bit of luxury. There’s also a small outdoor pool, as well as a sauna and a gym, so I definitely think that this place delivers an indulgent stay for a (relatively) affordable price.

Double rooms here typically cost around €400 in the peak summer season, including breakfast.

Villa Ragusa is another excellent choice in Ploče, just a short walk from both Banje Beach and the Old Town. The spacious apartments come with kitchen facilities and private balconies, making it a great option if you want a little more flexibility during your stay.

The Beachfront Dubrovnik Old Town is perfect if waking up to sea views is high on your wishlist, while still being within easy walking distance of the Old Town. The modern apartments are well equipped for longer stays and offer a peaceful base close to both the beach and Dubrovnik’s main attractions.

Boutique Villa Dorma – $

Perched just a few minutes’ stroll from Dubrovnik’s Old Town, Boutique Villa Dorma offers a warm, homey feel and stunning coastal views. I love the fresh, minimalist decor here and the fact that the rooms are soundproofed to ensure a good night’s rest.

The location is excellent, too! It’s perfect if you want to be near the buzz of the Old Town while still enjoying some peace and quiet. The hotel also offers on-site parking (a rarity so close to the Old Town!), so staying here is a smart choice if you’re road tripping along the coast. A day’s parking can cost up to €50 in Dubrovnik, so don’t overlook Boutique Villa Dorma if you’re coming here with a car!

There are also triple rooms available here, making it an excellent choice for groups! Rates typically range from around €150 to €350 per night, depending on the season and room type.

Rooms Raič is another great option in Ploče if you want to be within walking distance of both the Old Town and Banje Beach. The rooms are simple but super comfortable, and many have fantastic views over the Adriatic and Dubrovnik’s iconic city walls.

Ragusa City Walls Apartments is a great pick if you prefer the extra space and flexibility of a self-catering apartment. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the Old Town, with modern apartments that make an excellent base for exploring Dubrovnik at your own pace, and I love the boutique decor!

Babin Kuk

BEST FOR FAMILIES

• A bit removed from the Old Town (10–15 minutes by bus)
• Limited nightlife and cultural attractions
• Feels more like a resort area than an authentic neighborhood

Babin Kuk is Dubrovnik’s go-to spot for a beachy, resort-style vacation. It’s actually a smaller part of the Lapad Peninsula, which I talked about earlier in this blog, but it has its own distinct feel, so I thought it deserved its own section!

This tranquil neighborhood is located on the northwestern tip of the peninsula; although it’s just a 10-minute drive or bus ride to the Old Town, it feels a world away! There are no crowded cobblestone streets here – instead, it’s all about sandy shores and clear, sparkling seas.

I think this area is a great choice if you’ve been to Dubrovnik before and would like to experience something a little different this time around. With several hotels and resorts clustered around the scenic coastline, Babin Kuk caters especially well to families and couples seeking a relaxing stay. 

Best of all, staying in Babin Kuk puts you close to some of Dubrovnik’s very best beaches. Copacabana Beach, home to the iconic Coral Beach Club, is just a 2-minute drive or 12-minute walk away. So if you’re more interested in Dubrovnik’s coastal beauty than its medieval history, Babin Kuk is the ideal place to stay. Plus, it’s still close to the Old Town that it’s easy to hop over for a bit of sightseeing whenever you feel like it!

President Hotel – $$$

The President Hotel, Valamar Collection is a luxury retreat designed for a dreamy beachfront escape. This five-star property offers sweeping sea views from nearly every room, which are naturally best enjoyed from your private balcony!

Inside, you’ll find spacious rooms decked out with modern amenities and lots of elegant touches. The hotel’s facilities are top-notch, from the gorgeous wellness center to the gym with sea views. I mean, an ocean view probably is the only thing that could make time on the treadmill bearable, but to be honest, if I stayed here you’d find me enjoying the scenery by sipping a cocktail out on the terrace or dining at one of the gourmet restaurants instead!

Hotel More is a great option if you’re after something a little more boutique, with a spectacular setting right on the waterfront. Along with elegant sea-view rooms, it has a private beach, outdoor pool, spa, and the famous Cave Bar More, which is built inside a natural cave.

Royal Neptun Hotel – $$

Royal Neptun Hotel is beautifully situated on the scenic shores of Babin Kuk, offering guests a front row seat to the Adriatic! The property has been recently renovated, and its new look offers an elegant take on classic coastal decor.

The spacious rooms offer lots of natural light, and they come with thoughtful touches like plush bathrobes and well-stocked minibars. There’s also a private stretch of beach for guests to enjoy, or a clifftop pool if you don’t feel like getting sandy! Then, when the evening rolls around, you can enjoy dinner and drinks out on one of the several open-air terraces as you watch the sunset over the water.

Classic rooms usually range from €220 to €550, depending on your dates.

Valamar Lacroma Hotel is another excellent choice in Babin Kuk if you’re looking for a full-service resort with plenty of facilities. Along with spacious rooms, it has indoor and outdoor pools, a large spa, and several restaurants – plus, it’s just a short walk from the beach!

Valamar Argosy Hotel is a great option if you’re planning a relaxing couples’ getaway, since it offers access to the coastal walking paths around Babin Kuk. As well as lots of great romantic strolls, it offers what has to be one of the most gorgeous infinity pools ever!

Art Hotel Dubrovnik – $

Art Hotel Dubrovnik is my top budget pick in Babin Kuk, especially if you want to stay close to the water without paying resort prices! The rooms are bright and modern, and many have balconies with gorgeous views over Lapad Bay.

You’ll be within walking distance of beaches, restaurants, and the waterfront promenade, while convenient bus connections make getting to the Old Town easy. There’s also a terrace overlooking the bay where you can enjoy breakfast or a drink—pretty impressive for a budget-friendly stay in Dubrovnik!

Rates can start as low as €170 per night, depending on the apartment size and season.

Villa Antea Apartments is a fantastic value option, with spacious self-catering apartments, private terraces, and an incredible rooftop pool overlooking the bay. You’re also within walking distance of Copacabana Beach, plus there’s free parking if you’re renting a car!

Alternatively, Sunny Dubrovnik by Valamar – All Inclusive is a great choice for families or anyone looking for a hassle-free holiday. With all-inclusive dining, family-friendly facilities, and beaches just a short stroll away, it’s the perfect place to make some wholesome family memories.

Gruž

BEST FOR BUDGET TRAVELERS

Pros

• Authentic local vibe with a bustling market
• Convenient for ferry and bus connections
• Easy access to islands and surrounding areas

• Lacks the medieval charm of Old Town
• Limited nightlife compared to more touristy areas
• Can be busy and noisy near the port

Sometimes, I like to see the more local side of a touristy destination, and that’s definitely what Gruž offers! Located just northwest of the Old Town, this bustling neighborhood is a major transportation hub, home to the city’s ferry port and main bus station. It’s a lot more local, and it’s ideal for budget travelers.

Of course, the trade-off is that it doesn’t have that same postcard-perfect charm as the Old Town or Lapad offer. However, if you appreciate more authentic, local areas, then Gruž does hold a certain appeal. This is where you can visit local markets rather than tourist-centered ones, and see what life in Dubrovnik is actually like for its residents.

Speaking of the daily market, that’s actually one of Gruž’s real highlights if you ask me. The vendors here sell everything from fresh seafood and local produce to flowers and handmade crafts.

Gruž also boasts a very strategic location that’s ideal if you’re planning day trips to the Elaphiti Islands or other parts of the Dalmatian coast. Ferries depart from the port throughout the day, so island-hopping is an absolute breeze when you stay here!

Nearby, you’ll find the Red History Museum, an interactive exhibit offering a fascinating look at Croatia’s communist past, as well as casual eateries and cafés where you can relax and watch the harbor activity.

City Hotel Dubrovnik – $$$

For a modern and convenient stay in Dubrovnik’s Gruž neighborhood, City Hotel Dubrovnik is a top choice. This stylish hotel offers spacious, comfortable rooms with bright city, mountain, or sea views. Many rooms come with a balcony, which is perfect for catching the morning sun or evening lights of the harbor.

The decor here is contemporary and fairly business-like, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing! The rooms are soundproofed so you won’t hear the noise of the harbor, and there’s a well-equipped fitness center for those who like to stay active on the road.

The location is ideal for travelers wanting easy access to the ferry port or the Old Town (just a 20-minute walk or quick bus ride away). Rates start from about €100 and can reach €400+ per night, depending on your room and the season.

Villa Sunset Dubrovnik is another great choice in Gruž if you want a quieter stay with beautiful views over the harbor, while still being just a short bus ride from the Old Town. The spacious apartments all have private balconies or terraces, and I especially love the large windows and big balconies that make the most of the sea views.

Berkeley Hotel – $$

For a modern stay in Dubrovnik’s Gruž neighborhood, Berkeley Hotel is a standout choice. This peaceful, family-owned hotel overlooks the harbor, and it offers spacious rooms that won’t break the bank.

Each room features comfortable bedding, a modern bathroom, as well as complimentary toiletries and air-conditioning. Perhaps best of all, there’s a rooftop pool! It’s not the crazy infinity pool that you’ll find at an uber-luxe hotel, but it’s still ideal if you want to lie in the sun for a few hours or take a quick dip without having to leave the property.

Best of all, the atmosphere here is super warm and welcoming. Plus, the hotel is just a short walk from the ferry port and bus terminal, making it a smart base for both island-tripping and exploring the Old Town. Rates range from around €160 to €260 per night, and as always, you’ll find the best deals by booking in advance.

If the Berkeley Hotel is fully booked, Apartments and Rooms Villa Naida is another great option in Gruž if you’re looking for somewhere peaceful while still being close to the ferry port and bus station. The apartments are spacious, and some have kitchenettes, which is ideal if you want the flexibility to cook a few meals during your stay, and there’s also a bigger shared kitchen on site.

Apartments Miljas is a lovely budget-friendly choice if you don’t mind staying a little outside the Old Town. It has bright, comfortable apartments with kitchen facilities, and I especially like the outdoor pool and terrace area where you can enjoy breakfast in the sunshine before heading out to explore Dubrovnik.

Hotel Adria – $

Perched above Dubrovnik’s Gruž Bay, Hotel Adria offers sweeping sea views and spacious rooms with soothing, modern decor. Not bad for a budget choice, right?

The hotel also has an outdoor pool with comfortable loungers, and on a clear day you can see over the bay to the Elaphiti Islands! There’s also an on-site restaurant that serves up fresh Dalmatian specialties, which you can enjoy with a view out on the terrace.

Hotel Adria’s location is very practical too: it’s just a 10-minute bus ride from the Old Town and within easy reach of the ferry port for island-hopping adventures. With rates starting as low as around €90 per night and generous breakfasts included, it’s definitely one of the best-value options in Dubrovnik!

B&B Sol is another great budget-friendly option in Gruž, especially if you’re planning day trips and want to stay close to the ferry port and bus station. The rooms are bright and comfortable, and the generous breakfast is the perfect way to fuel up before a day of exploring.

Urban&Veggie Rooms is a fun choice if you’re after something a little different during your stay in Dubrovnik. As well as stylish, modern rooms, it has a fantastic vegetarian restaurant downstairs, so you’ll never have to go far for a delicious meal!

Montovjerna

BEST FOR A QUIETER STAY

Montovjerna is a quiet, residential neighborhood nestled between the historic Old Town and the bustling port of Gruž. You might even say that it offers the best of both worlds! Personally, I think that it’s a great spot for travelers who want to experience Dubrovnik’s authentic side while staying close to the action.

This area is perfect for those seeking a peaceful base away from the crowds. It’s home to a mix of hotels, apartments, and guesthouses that cater to a range of budgets. A lot of them are close to the waterfront, too, so you can start your mornings with a scenic stroll along the Adriatic.

Montovjerna also boasts convenient access to both the Old Town and Lapad’s beaches. The area’s leafy streets and local cafés add to the laid-back vibe, making it a favorite for families and couples who want to slow down a bit and just soak in the atmosphere.

Bellevue Beach is also nearby, and this is one of Dubrovnik’s most charming coastal spots. And while Montovjerna itself doesn’t have many tourist attractions, its strategic location makes it easy to reach Dubrovnik’s cultural landmarks and bustling squares within minutes. It’s great if you want somewhere quieter or more affordable to use as a base to explore the rest of the city, and don’t mind doing a bit of extra walking or making use of the local buses!

Rixos Premium Dubrovnik – $$$

For a luxurious retreat with world-class amenities, Rixos Premium Dubrovnik is a stunning choice. Just a 15-minute walk from the Old Town, this five-star gem overlooks the shimmering Adriatic, with breathtaking sea views from many of its elegantly appointed rooms. 

The rooftop pool here is absolutely beautiful – I can’t think of a better way to start a day in Dubrovnik than going for a swim with the ocean right in front of me. Meanwhile inside, there’s a wellness center with Turkish baths, indoor pools, and an extensive menu of rejuvenating treatments to choose from.

There are also three restaurants on site that serve everything from teppanyaki to fresh local seafood. So while it’s easy enough to walk to the Old Town for dinner, you really don’t have to! And if you want to make a night of it, there’s also a casino and multiple bars on site.

Rooms here typically range from around €300 to €1,000+ per night, reflecting the hotel’s luxurious setting and exceptional facilities.

Villa Orabelle – $$

Tucked away in Dubrovnik’s Montovjerna neighborhood, Villa Orabelle is a luxurious boutique retreat offering a serene escape just steps from Bellevue Beach. This charming villa boasts lovely modern suites with sea views, and some even come with private terraces and whirlpool tubs!

There’s also an outdoor pool that offers panoramic sea views, and the à la carte breakfast is excellent. The staff is warm and welcoming, and the location is excellent if you’re looking for a peaceful, beachy stay. It’s just a 15-minute walk to the Old Town, yet you feel a whole world away.

Boutique Hotel Porto is another excellent option in Montovjerna that’s within walking distance of both the Old Town and the beach. The stylish, airy rooms are complemented by a very generous breakfast buffet, making this place great value for money in my book!

Hotel Lero – $$

Hotel Lero offers a wonderful blend of comfort and convenience in Dubrovnik’s Montovjerna neighborhood, just a short walk from the Old Town. This modern hotel offers spacious, tastefully decorated rooms, which offer excellent views over the city or the coastline.

There’s a large pool area which is perfect for when you want to come back and relax after a day of exploring, or start your day with a morning dip! There are also multiple restaurants on site offering Dalmatian and Bosnian cuisine, so this is a great chance to get to know the local cuisine and maybe even try something new.

The staff here are warm and welcoming, and they’re always ready to help you plan your day in Dubrovnik. With rates starting around €80 and going up to €350 per night, Hotel Lero is a popular choice for anyone seeking a peaceful stay close to the city’s top attractions.

Apartments Pavle is another great choice in Montovjerna if you’re looking for a quieter stay that’s still within walking distance of the Old Town. The spacious apartments come with kitchen facilities and private balconies, which are ideal if you like having a little extra space to relax after a day of sightseeing.
