Lunch – Fat Cats on the Marina

After a morning of exploring Albufeira by tuk-tuk, it’s time to head back to the Marina for lunch, and don’t forget to grab your swimsuit and towel at the hotel before you leave, because the afternoon will take you out on the water.

Afternoon – Dolphin watching and Benagil Cave adventure

After lunch, it’s time for one of the most unforgettable experiences in Albufeira—this afternoon dolphin-watching and Benagil Cave adventure. Departing right from Albufeira Marina at 2:30 or 3 pm (depending on the day), this 2.5-hour tour had us grinning from start to finish.

We hopped aboard a small, semi-rigid boat that could zip into hidden spots along the Algarve coast that bigger boats can’t reach. Hugging the golden cliffs, we cruised past secluded coves and sea-carved arches, soaking up exclusive views that felt like our own private slice of the Atlantic. 

Then came the moment we’d been waiting for—spotting a pod of wild dolphins leaping through the waves beside us! Watching them playfully swim alongside the boat was nothing short of magical.

The adventure didn’t stop there. Soon, we were gliding straight into the famous Benagil Cave, its dramatic natural skylight illuminating golden sandstone walls. Our skilled skipper maneuvered the boat deep inside, giving us the perfect view for photos. If the weather allows, you can even hop in for a quick swim!

By the time we returned around 5 or 5:30 pm, we were sun-kissed, salty, and absolutely thrilled. From the marina, it’s about a 20-minute coastal walk back downtown, passing scenic viewpoints like Miradouro Rossio and Observation Deck Albufeira, which are perfect for snapping a few sunset photos before dinner.

Dinner – Alfredo

After your coastal walk back into downtown, settle in for a cozy, authentic Portuguese dinner at Alfredo. From the moment we hopped into the Jeep, our guide, Victor, kept the energy high. He navigated winding backroads and bumpy off-road trails like a pro, sharing local stories along the way. Our first stop was Paderne Castle, a medieval fortress that looks out over the countryside, followed by a quick visit to a tiny village café in Paderne. Sipping a local coffee there gave us a real taste of daily life away from the coast.

Next, we made our way to Alte, one of the Algarve’s most picturesque villages. It’s Fonte Grande spring was the perfect spot for a refreshing dip—definitely pack your swimsuit if you want to jump in! 

We also stopped at a small local shop to sample fresh honey, olive oil, and traditional marzipan sweets, before climbing to Pico Alto, the highest viewpoint in the region, for sweeping views of vineyards, rolling hills, and the distant sea.

While neighboring Vilamoura is sleek and modern, Quarteira has a charming, lived-in vibe that’s perfect for an easy afternoon of wandering, shopping, and enjoying the sea breeze. This stretch of the Algarve is all about slowing down, so take your time—you’ll have a mix of coastal views, small-town streets, and a chance to recharge before your evening plans.

Stroll and shop in downtown Quarteira

Start with a walk along Quarteira’s beachfront promenade, which runs for more than 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) and is lined with boutiques, souvenir shops, and little cafés. This flat, scenic path is dotted with benches and shaded areas, making it easy to explore at your own pace.
