Where to find the best hotels in Petra
The town closest to Petra is Wadi Musa, just 3.5 kilometers (about 2 miles) from the archaeological site. This is where you’ll find most of the hotels, restaurants, shops, and everything else you’ll need during your stay.
You have two main options: near the Petra Visitor Center, which is as close as you can get to the archaeological park, or Wadi Musa Town Center, which is more budget-friendly and closer to local restaurants, shops, pharmacies, and exchange offices.
Getting around is pretty easy. If you stay near the Visitor Center, you can simply walk to the entrance. If you choose to stay in the Town Center, you can walk, take a taxi, or use a hotel shuttle if one is available. Keep in mind that Wadi Musa is hilly, so the walk back can feel a lot longer after a full day exploring Petra.
Here are the two areas we recommend staying in:
- Petra Visitor Center – Best for first-time visitors or short trips – This is the most convenient area if you want easy access to the Petra entrance. Important Tip
Multiple Petra trips have taught us that this area doesn’t reward spontaneity when it comes to planning. The good places get snapped up months in advance, leaving the overpriced and underwhelming options for last-minute travelers.
The sweet spot for booking Petra accommodations is 3-4 months out—enough time to secure good rates but not so far ahead that you’re locking in plans excessively early.

Staying near the Petra Visitor Center puts you just a short walk from the entrance to Petra, which is a big plus if you want to get there early and beat the crowds. You’ll also have the Petra Museum, cafés, restaurants, souvenir shops, and tour operators right nearby, so you’ve got everything you need close by.
This is where you’ll enter Petra and make your way through the Siq to the Treasury and the rest of the archaeological site. If you’re planning to see Petra by Night, staying nearby makes things much easier since you can simply walk back to your hotel afterward. You’ll really appreciate being this close to your hotel after a long day, trust us!
Overall, we think this area is a great fit if you’re short on time, want to start exploring early, or you just don’t feel like adding another long walk after a full day at Petra.
Petra Guest House Hotel – $$$
Petra Guest House Hotel is a lovely 4-star stay right by the main visitor entrance, making it one of the most convenient options for exploring Petra. Inside you will find traditional furnishings, plus there’s free high-speed Wi-Fi, so you can stay connected even out in the desert.
Along with the guest house rooms, you can also choose from 31 spacious chalets within the stone surroundings, a great choice if you’re after a more authentic stay. Even better, room service is available 24/7, so you can order something whenever you need it.
Now comes the fun part! The bar is housed inside a restored 1st-century Nabatean cave tomb and is even known as the oldest bar in the world. Now that’s something you can brag about when you get home! Prices start at around $120 USD per night, which we think is a great deal given the location.
Crowne Plaza Resort Petra by IHG – $$$
If you’re after a more polished stay, Crowne Plaza Resort Petra by IHG is just the place. This 5-star hotel is pretty new (opened in January 2026), so everything feels fresh and modern. It’s also massive, with 143 rooms, suites, and chalets, ideal for families and groups.
Inside, large windows let you wake up to views of the Petra Mountains, while some rooms also have balconies, a great spot to catch the sunset. The best part, however, has to be the rooftop infinity pool with a bar, perfect for some downtime after a day of exploring. And when it’s time to eat, you can stay right on the property and choose from two restaurants serving international buffets and Middle Eastern à la carte dishes.
Location-wise, it sits on a hillside roughly 200 meters (656 feet) from the Petra Visitor Center. Prices range from $130 to $400+ USD per night, depending on the room and dates.
Petra Moon Luxury Hotel – $$$
Located directly opposite the main entrance to Petra and just a 4-minute walk from the Petra Visitor Center, Petra Moon Luxury Hotel is a real gem with lots of little perks that make your stay that much easier.
The rooftop restaurant is a big highlight, with amazing views of Petra and a BBQ dinner that will make you go for seconds. Then there’s the rooftop pool, which is exactly where you’ll want to be after a long, hot day exploring Petra. Breakfast is also really good, so you can fill up before heading out for another day of sightseeing.
What we absolutely love about it is that it has character, the staff are super friendly, and it feels more personal than a chain hotel. Prices start at around $110 USD per night, which we think is a pretty great deal for what you get.
Mövenpick Resort Petra – $$
For something just as nice, minus the high price tag, Mövenpick Resort Petra is well worth checking out! This is the one we chose for our stay this time around, and honestly, we couldn’t have picked a better place. For starters, it’s located right at the entrance to the ancient city of Petra, so there’s no steep uphill climb on the way back. Yay for that!
If you’ve learned anything about us by now, you should know that we love anything old, and this place is packed with character, from traditional stone and Middle Eastern wood carvings to a grand atrium that resembles a historic Arab palace courtyard. We loved every detail.
There’s also a relaxing pool area, a chocolate hour (we never say no to chocolate!), live music on the rooftop, plus hubbly-bubbly and cocktails. What more could you want? With prices starting at just $140 USD per night, we think it’s one of the best deals in Petra.
Petra Boutique Hotel – $$
Petra Boutique Hotel is a fantastic mid-range option, less than a 2-minute walk from Petra’s main gate. The location is really hard to beat, especially after a long day of hiking around the ancient city when all you want to do is get back to your room without another long walk.
There are also plenty of little extras that make life easier, like free luggage storage, complimentary water bottles, and even a packed lunch if you have an afternoon tour planned.
The kitchen staff is also happy to explain the dishes, so you can try something new without wondering what you’re actually eating (some Middle Eastern dishes really need a second look!). Around sunset, the rooftop is the best place to be for some pretty impressive panoramic views of the rugged mountains. Expect to pay anywhere from $100 to $200+ USD per night, depending on your room and travel dates.
Petra Moon Hotel – $$
Petra Moon Hotel is the sister property to the newer, more expensive Petra Moon Luxury Hotel, but don’t let that fool you. You’re still getting a great stay without the high price tag. Also, rooms are spacious and can accommodate up to 5 adults, making this a great choice for families and groups.
If you’re planning an early start, you won’t have to skip breakfast. They’ll pack it up for you, so you can take it along and enjoy it somewhere with a view. There’s also a lovely rooftop pool, which comes in handy after all that walking through the Siq. And once the sun starts going down, you won’t want to be anywhere else.
You’re also just a 2-minute flat walk from Petra’s entrance. And yes, the word flat really matters here, especially when you’re coming back tired and hot. Prices start at just $80 USD per night, which is a real bargain if you ask us!
Edom Hotel – $
If you’re on a mission to save, Edom Hotel is definitely worth checking out! This 3-star hotel offers basic, budget-friendly accommodation in a great location, just steps from the main Petra Visitor Center entrance (yes, a flat walk, in case you were wondering).
There’s a good choice of rooms here, whether you’re traveling solo or with a big family. Some even come with a balcony or patio overlooking the town or local mosque. The highlight, however, is the cave restaurant carved into the stone. Here, you can enjoy a rich buffet of traditional Oriental cuisine every morning.
And, if you’re looking to explore more of the Aqaba region and the Red Sea, you can easily rent a car from the front desk. When you’re back, you can park for free right outside the hotel, which is super convenient! With prices starting at just $95 USD per night, it’s pretty hard to beat for what you get.

The Town Center sits farther uphill from Petra’s entrance, but it’s a great option if you want cheaper hotels and more of a local feel. You’ll find lots of traditional restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets, and small shops nearby, so you’ve got everything you need within easy reach. And if you enjoy a nice sunset, be sure to head up to this sunset spot, which also conveniently has free parking!
Getting to Petra is still pretty easy. It’s about a 5-10 minute taxi ride or a 20-30 minute walk downhill to the Visitor Center. And while the walk down seems easy, the uphill walk back is not something you’ll look forward to. Luckily, most hotels offer free shuttles, and if not, you can always grab a taxi.
While you’re in the area, you can also check out Moses’ Spring, a small historic site connected to the story of Moses, and a nice little change from the archaeological site. Overall, the Town Center is a good pick if you’re staying a few nights and would rather spend your money exploring Petra than on your hotel.
Petra Marriott Hotel – $$$
Petra Marriott Hotel sits just outside the town center, about a 15-minute drive from the Petra Visitor Center, but that shouldn’t be an issue as the hotel offers a free shuttle to Petra. Plus, it comes with some great perks that you won’t regret your choice. For starters, it’s built on a high mountain ridge, so you get absolutely fantastic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys, definitely a different experience from the hotels sitting right by the tourist gate.
For food, you can choose from two restaurants serving Middle Eastern barbecue and Italian dishes, with lots of al fresco dining space. There’s also a seasonal outdoor pool right on the ridge, plus a traditional hammam, which comes in super handy after a long day of exploring.

Petra Pillars Luxury Hotel – $$$
Petra Pillars Luxury Hotel is another upscale stay just outside the town center (about a 5-minute drive from Petra’s entrance), but it comes with some pretty great extras. It also sits on the same high ridge as the Petra Marriott, which means you get amazing views from pretty much every corner of the property. Even better, it was built in 2025, so everything is brand new.
The highlight is the rooftop infinity pool, where you can relax and watch the sunset without anything blocking the view. And if you need a little more downtime, the spa has massages, a large jacuzzi, and a hammam. When hunger strikes, you’ve got plenty of options, with two restaurants, a lobby bar, and a pool terrace café.

The Old Village Hotel & Resort – $$$
Located in Wadi Musa, The Old Village Hotel & Resort offers something you don’t get every day: a stay inside a 19th-century Nabatean stone village. Yes, it’s a 5-star hotel, but it’s built into historic stone structures, making it a pretty unique place to stay.
Beyond the fascinating history, you’ll find a grand ballroom (one of the largest in the area), plus a full wellness center for massages and some well-deserved downtime. There are also indoor and outdoor pools, so you can take a dip no matter when you visit.

We absolutely love the location in downtown Wadi Musa, close to shops and restaurants, but still perched on a scenic cliffside ridge, so you get the views too! This place is also often praised for its warm hospitality, so you know you’re in good hands from the start.
Rooms are spacious and ideal for families and groups, with some even offering patios. There’s also an indoor swimming pool and a dedicated children’s splash pool, so fun all around. Evenings are best spent on the rooftop terrace and lounge with some shisha, cocktails, and your favorite company.
The hotel is about a 30-minute walk from the Petra Visitor Center, but taxis are fast and super cheap if you don’t feel like walking. Prices start at just $100 USD per night.
