Our Top Choice
The tour we loved the most and suggest booking ASAP is this one!
Our FAVORITE thing we did in Montego Bay was this all-in-one adventure tour. We went from riding ATVs to ziplining through the jungle, then straight to horseback riding and a catamaran party. It felt like four tours rolled into one awesome day!

Itinerary Overview

As a holiday destination, Montego Bay offers the perfect blend of beaches, culture, tourist-friendly day trips, and easy resort-style relaxation.
We’ve based this specific itinerary around staying in the main Montego Bay hotel zone, with most days starting from the Hip Strip, downtown Montego Bay, or the wider resort area. If you’ve never been to Montego Bay before, we 100% recommend basing yourself here. It puts you right in the middle of all the main attractions, with dozens of incredible restaurants and beautiful walking paths right on your doorstep.
This location is also super convenient when booking excursions to places like Rose Hall, Martha Brae, Falmouth, Nine Mile, and Ocho Rios. Most of the main experiences include hotel pickup and drop-off, which keeps the logistics very easy (and even better, you won’t have to change hotels or rent a car if you want to venture out further afield).
Outside of excursions, taxis or hotel-arranged drivers are typically the best option for restaurant transfers, beach stops, and flexible afternoon exploring, especially when moving between places like the Hip Strip, downtown Montego Bay, and Rose Hall.
Here’s a quick look at what you’ll be up to over the course of five days in Montego Bay:
Day 1: Get to know Montego Bay on a private highlights tour, grab lunch on the iconic Hip Strip, and enjoy a waterfront dinner.
Day 2: Spend a full day ziplining, tubing, and riding ATVs, followed by a classic Jamaican jerk dinner.
Day 3: Taste your way through Montego Bay on a food tour, explore downtown, and (if you’re up for it) see the glowing lagoon after dark.
Day 4: Choose between following Bob Marley’s story into the hills or chasing waterfalls on the north coast, then, for a change of pace, grab dinner at one of Montego Bay’s highest-rated Indian restaurants.
Day 5: Drift along the Martha Brae River on a bamboo raft, explore the historic Rose Hall area, and enjoy a farewell seafood dinner on the beach.
Day 1
Morning – Get to know Montego Bay through the eyes of a local

Starting day one with this private half-day tour is a smart way to ease into Montego Bay without any stress. It’s designed as a relaxed introduction to the city, especially for first-time visitors who want to get their bearings right away.
One of the biggest perks is how easy everything feels from the start. Hotel or port pickup is included, so there’s no need to worry about getting to a meeting point. Breakfast can stay simple and close by before heading out, with most tours beginning around 9 or 10 am.
Because it’s a private experience, the itinerary is fully customizable. Whether you want to explore the famous Hip Strip, learn more about local life, or stop for authentic jerk chicken, the day can be shaped around your interests. This flexibility is something we’ve always loved about private tours. It feels much more personal and far less rushed.
The tour itself runs about 3 to 4 hours in a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan, making it an easy and enjoyable way to see the highlights. Having a dedicated local guide also adds so much value. They know the best spots, the safest areas, and share insights into Jamaican culture that you just wouldn’t get exploring on your own.
Overall, this is the kind of first-day activity that sets the tone for the rest of your trip—simple, informative, and a great way to start exploring Montego Bay with confidence. And we aren’t the only ones who think so—check out HUNDREDS of five-star reviews and see why other travelers say this tour is among the best in Montego Bay!
Lunch – Margaritaville Montego Bay
If you didn’t stop to eat on your morning tour, head to Margaritaville Montego Bay for lunch. This is honestly such a fun lunch spot for day one. And, it’s right on the Hip Strip, so depending on where your guide drops you off, a short walk or quick taxi should be all it takes to get there.
For food, you’ll find all the crowd favorites like Volcano Nachos, Blackened Mini Shrimp Tacos, and Lava Lava Shrimp (my favorite!), as well as authentic jerk dishes to give you a proper introduction to the area.
We always recommend this spot for day one because it immediately puts you in vacation mode with its bright colors, upbeat music, and views right over the water. You can even take a quick ride down their famous waterslide into the ocean if you’re feeling adventurous!
Afternoon – Ease into vacation mode with some relaxation time

After a busy morning of exploring, this afternoon is all about taking it easy! Head back to your hotel (either with a quick taxi or a stroll along the Hip Strip), and keep things low-key so you’re not packing too much into your first day.
Here are a few suggestions:
- Browse the Hip Strip – If you want to spend a bit more time around Gloucester Avenue for souvenir shopping, coffee, or people-watching, this is a great option. The highlights tour already introduces this area, so it should feel familiar enough to explore on your own.
- Relax by your hotel pool or the beach – This is the best option if you arrived recently or you want to save your energy for the rest of the itinerary. One Man Beach is a good free beach option right on the Hip Strip, and Doctor’s Cave Beach is another great choice nearby!
- Drop by the Montego Bay Cultural Center – The Montego Bay Cultural Center is a great option if it was skipped during your tour, or maybe you want a bit more context on the local history. There is a small entrance fee (around $8 USD), but it’s a great way to better understand Jamaica’s history and culture in a short, easy visit.
Consider this your permission to do as little (or as much) as you want on your first afternoon in Montego Bay!
Dinner – House Boat Grill Restaurant

For dinner, head to the House Boat Grill Restaurant, which is about a 10-minute taxi drive from the Hip Strip area and open from 4 pm to 11 pm. The restaurant itself is set right on the water in the Montego Bay Marine Park Fish Sanctuary, which instantly makes the whole evening feel a bit more special after such a laid-back afternoon.
On the menu, you’ll find things like Panko Crusted Lobster Cake, Baked Snapper Fillet, and Lobster Carbonara, with live Caribbean spiny lobster also available in season. When we visited, we went with the Baked Snapper Fillet, and it was absolutely delicious!
The setting is also a big part of the appeal here. You can either dine downstairs in the cozy dining room, upstairs under the stars, or right by the water on the lower deck. Because of this, reservations are a very good idea here since it’s quite popular with tourists.
Evening – Chill out by the marina

If dinner runs late and the mood feels right, it might be best not to rush off anywhere else. The House Boat Grill already has such a lovely waterfront setting, so if you want one final drink (or two), just stick around and soak it all in.
If you do have more time and energy, Pier 1 is a great place for a drink. It’s an open-air waterfront bar and restaurant on Howard Cooke Boulevard, so it works well for a casual cocktail and a bit of atmosphere after dinner. It’s only about an 8-minute drive from the House Boat Grill, and booking a taxi should be easy from the restaurant.
Day 2
Full day – Spend the day ziplining, riding, and cruising

Day two is all about going big, and this full-day combo tour is easily one of the most action-packed experiences in Montego Bay. It bundles ATV riding, ziplining, horseback riding, and a catamaran cruise into one unforgettable day, so there’s no need to plan multiple activities.
The day starts with hotel pickup, either around 8:30 am or 10 am, depending on your preference. It’s best to grab breakfast at or near your hotel beforehand, since once the day gets going, it doesn’t slow down. From there, everything is taken care of, including transportation between each activity.
The adventure kicks off with an ATV ride through a historic estate, where you’ll explore Jamaica’s lush countryside and tackle some fun, rugged terrain. Next, you’ll switch gears and zipline through the jungle canopy, which offers some incredible views and a bit of an adrenaline rush.

After that, things take a unique turn with a horseback ride along the beach and into the ocean. It’s one of those experiences that really stands out and isn’t something you get to do just anywhere.
The day wraps up on a high note with a catamaran cruise. There’s time to snorkel or swim in the Caribbean Sea, and once back on board, the music is going, drinks are flowing, and the vibe turns into a full-on celebration.
Depending on your start time, the tour finishes around 5:30 pm or 7 pm with drop-off back at your hotel. It’s a long day, but in the best way possible—packed with variety, fun, and a little bit of everything Jamaica does best.
Dinner – The Pork Pit

After your full day of adventure, head to The Pork Pit for dinner. This is a bit of a different dinner experience than yesterday, as it’s a lot more casual, but it’s still unmistakably Jamaican!
As one of Montego Bay’s classic jerk spots, The Pork Pit is known for its jerk pork and sausages, served with traditional sides like festival and hard dough bread. We loved this spot because it’s so laid-back; you just order at the window, grab a Red Stripe beer, and sit at one of the picnic tables under the trees.
In terms of location, it’s close to the Hip Strip and will only be a short taxi ride from most hotels, or even walkable, depending on where you’re based. And for timings, note that it’s open until 9 pm most days, or 10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Evening – Wind down with a sunset stroll
Today was a big day, so we’ll keep things simple after dinner. When you’re all finished at The Pork Pit, take a relaxed walk along the Hip Strip. There’s always something going on, like live music, people out and about, and plenty of shops to pop into if something catches your eye.
If you feel like extending the night a little, there are a few easy options nearby. Lounge 2727 is always a good shout (it’s usually super lively), while Blue Beat Ultra Lounge is a great pick if you’re looking for less of a party vibe.
Day 3
Morning – Enjoy a relaxed start to the day

You’ve got a food tour coming up around 10 am, so keep breakfast light with something simple at your hotel or a nearby cafe. If you’re up early, this is the perfect opportunity to grab a coffee with a view, take a short beach walk, or just enjoy a quiet moment before the day picks up again.
There’s nothing scheduled before your tour, so don’t feel like you need to rush anywhere. Sleep in if you want and try to ease yourself into the day. Yesterday was a busy one, and you definitely deserve some rest this morning!
Late morning – Taste your way through Montego Bay

Late morning is dedicated to this private Montego Bay food tour, and it’s one of the best ways to experience the local culture without feeling rushed. With hotel pickup and drop-off included, everything is seamless from start to finish.
The 10 am start works really well here, giving you a relaxed morning before heading out. You’ll be out for about 3.5 hours, wrapping up around 1:30 or 2 pm with plenty of time left to enjoy your afternoon.
Throughout the tour, you’ll sample a variety of traditional Jamaican dishes, from hearty staples like chicken curry, boiled dumplings, and yams to some of the best patties in town—those flaky beef patties were easily a favorite and still get talked about! There are also stops for fresh fruit like coconut and pineapple, plus a chance to try world-famous Blue Mountain coffee.
Between bites, the tour takes you through downtown Montego Bay, including lively spots like Sam Sharpe Square. It almost feels like a food tour and a mini city tour in one, especially with a local guide sharing stories, history, and a few insider tips along the way.
It’s a relaxed, flavorful experience that balances perfectly with the slower morning, and a great way to dive deeper into Jamaican cuisine beyond the usual jerk chicken.
Afternoon – Dive back into exploring Montego Bay

You’ll likely finish your food tour feeling full and happy, so there’s no need to dive into another activity just yet! Instead, take a little time to rest back at your hotel if you need it, and then head back out when you are ready. We always love working in a free afternoon in the middle of a trip, because it breaks up the pace and keeps the trip from feeling too rushed!
Here are our favorite ways to explore Montego Bay on a lazy afternoon:
- Explore downtown Montego Bay’s creative side – If you want to stay in town, you can always visit the Montego Bay Cultural Centre if you haven’t already (it closes at 4 pm and is fully closed on Sundays). Another option is to head to Harbour Street Craft Market for handmade crafts and jewelry, perfect if you need to pick up a few souvenirs!
- Visit Rocklands Bird Sanctuary – This is the most unusual option of the bunch. It’s in the hills above Montego Bay (about a 20-minute drive from town), and you can actually hand-feed wild hummingbirds! One thing to note about this activity is that it’s currently operating with limited access and facilities while recovering from hurricane damage, so make sure to check ahead of time before planning your day around it!
- Get in some more beach time – You can never have too much beach time, right? Doctor’s Cave Beach is a great choice if you haven’t gone yet (or even if you have!), and it’s close to the Hip Strip. The water here is crystal clear, calm, and perfect for swimming, and the beach itself is well-maintained and not too crowded in the afternoons.
There really is no wrong choice here, just pick what sounds good and enjoy a slower side of Montego Bay!
Dinner – The Pelican Grill

For dinner, head to The Pelican Grill, a classic Montego Bay favorite right on the Hip Strip. This is a family-run restaurant that has been serving locals and visitors for decades, known for its warm service, sea views, and a broad menu of Jamaican home-style dishes. We loved this spot because it feels like stepping back in time to a classic, old-school diner, complete with comfortable booths and an overwhelmingly friendly atmosphere!
The menu is broad enough to match whatever you’re craving, with the standout dishes (in my opinion) being the jerk chicken, curried shrimp, and stamp and go (if you haven’t tried this Jamaican classic, this is definitely the place to do so!). The restaurant is open daily from 7 am to 10 pm, so there’s plenty of flexibility here for whenever you’re hungry!
Evening (Optional) – See Jamaica’s glowing waters after dark

If you’re up for something a little different after dinner, this Luminous Lagoon night tour is a great optional add-on and one of the most unique experiences near Montego Bay.
The evening starts with convenient hotel pickup, so there’s no need to worry about logistics. Tours typically begin around 6 or 6:30 pm and last 2 to 3 hours, finishing by about 9 pm. Since it starts fairly early, it’s a good idea to plan dinner a bit earlier if you want to fit this in.
Once you arrive at the lagoon and hop on the boat, the experience quickly starts to feel surreal. As you cruise across the calm water, it begins to glow in soft blues and greens with every movement. It’s caused by tiny, harmless organisms that light up when disturbed, and seeing it in person feels almost unreal.
The real highlight is being out on the water after dark, watching the glowing trails follow the boat and ripple across the surface. For those feeling a little adventurous, there’s usually a chance to jump in for a swim and watch the water light up all around you. It’s such a cool, once-in-a-lifetime kind of moment.
Whether you choose to swim or just take it all in from the boat, it’s a relaxed but memorable way to end the day, and definitely one of those experiences you’ll be talking about long after your trip.
Day 4
Option 1: Full-day – Follow Bob Marley’s story into the hills

Day four starts with a deeper dive into Jamaican culture on this Bob Marley tour, which is a great option for music lovers or anyone curious about the island’s history.
The day begins with hotel pickup around 8:30 am, so there’s no need to plan anything complicated beforehand. A quick breakfast at or near your hotel is more than enough before heading out. From there, you’ll set off on a scenic drive to Nine Mile, Bob Marley’s birthplace, which takes about 2.5 hours but is broken up with great views and commentary along the way.
Once you arrive, a local Rastafarian guide leads the experience, sharing stories and insights that really bring Bob Marley’s life to life. The tour includes a visit to his childhood home, where you’ll see personal items like his bed and even the rock he famously used as a pillow. There’s also a stop at Mount Zion, a peaceful spot where he often went to meditate and find inspiration.
One of the most meaningful parts of the visit is the Ethiopian church, where Bob Marley is laid to rest alongside his guitar. It’s a powerful and memorable moment that adds a deeper layer to the experience.
The tour lasts around 7 hours, returning to Montego Bay at approximately 3:30 pm. It’s a longer day, but a rewarding one, especially for anyone wanting to connect more deeply with Jamaica’s music and culture.

Option 2: Chase waterfalls and swimming holes on Jamaica’s north coast

For a more adventurous Day 4, this full-day trip to Ocho Rios is a great choice, especially if you want one last big outdoor experience before the trip winds down.
The day starts early with hotel pickup around 8 am, so it’s best to keep breakfast quick and close to your hotel. From there, you’ll head along Jamaica’s scenic north coast, with the drive taking about 2 hours. It’s surprisingly enjoyable, thanks to the coastal views and interesting commentary along the way.
The first stop is the Blue Hole, where bright blue water, jungle surroundings, and hidden caves make it feel like a true hidden gem. This is where the adventure really begins, with opportunities to cliff jump, swing into the water on a rope, or just swim and take it all in. A short walk also leads to Secret Falls, a quieter spot that’s perfect for photos and a quick break.
Next up is Dunn’s River Falls, one of Jamaica’s most famous natural attractions. Here, you can climb the terraced waterfall with a guide or take it at your own pace and relax in the natural pools along the way.
The full experience lasts around 8 hours, returning to Montego Bay at about 4 pm. With a mix of swimming, short hikes, and iconic sights, it’s an action-packed day that’s well worth the time. Just scroll through over 1,000 rave reviews here if you still need convincing!
Dinner – Bollywood Dhaba

For dinner, we’re going with a bit of a different vibe and sending you to Bollywood Dhaba. This is one of the highest-rated restaurants in the area and serves authentic Indian food, which provides a really nice change of pace if you’ve been indulging in all the heavy Jamaican favorites for the past few days. It’s also an easy taxi ride here after some downtime at your hotel, which is always a plus!
Good dishes to try are the veggie samosas, shrimp curry, butter chicken with garlic naan, and the chicken lollipop. We went with the butter chicken as a main with a few different appetizers, and it was exactly what we needed after a busy day out! When planning your evening, it’s worth making a reservation here just to be safe, especially if you’re visiting during the busy season.
Day 5
Morning – Drift along the Martha Brae River on a bamboo raft

Day five slows things down with this peaceful rafting experience on the Martha Brae River, making it the perfect way to wrap up your time in Montego Bay.
Pickup and drop-off are included, and the start time is arranged in advance with the provider. Most tours begin between 8 and 10 am, which keeps the morning relaxed while still leaving you plenty of time to enjoy your final afternoon. The full experience lasts around 4 hours, including travel, so you’ll likely be back by early afternoon.
After a scenic 45-minute drive, you’ll arrive at the river and hop onto a private bamboo raft for two. This is what makes the experience feel so special—it’s quiet, intimate, and a little romantic. A local captain guides the raft downstream while you sit back and take in the lush greenery and calm surroundings.
The ride itself is slow and easy, all about drifting along the river and enjoying the quieter side of Jamaica. Some guides will even let you try steering the raft for a few minutes, which makes for a fun photo opportunity.
If you want to enhance the experience, you can bring a bit of cash to grab drinks or snacks along the way, or even play some music during the ride.
It’s a refreshing change of pace after a few busy days, and a great way to end your trip feeling relaxed and fully immersed in Jamaica’s natural beauty.
Lunch – Pier 1

You may have visited here before for drinks on the evening of day one, but now is the perfect opportunity to come back to Pier 1 during the day and actually enjoy the food. We absolutely adore this spot for lunch because it has an open-air deck over the water, so you can enjoy the incredible panoramic views of the bay and the passing boats while you eat.
The menu is quite extensive, but good dishes to try are the blackened salmon salad, guava jerk chicken, seafood chowder, and the red snapper. I couldn’t resist the guava jerk chicken salad, and it was honestly so delicious! If you want to guarantee a spot on the deck, you can book a table ahead of time, but it isn’t always necessary, especially at lunchtime.
Afternoon – Spend some time around Rose Hall

After lunch, we recommend making your way over to Rose Hall. This is one of the most polished parts of the Montego Bay coast, known for its historic great houses and a more refined atmosphere compared to the Hip Strip area. Even better, it’s only about a 30-minute taxi ride from downtown, so the journey won’t eat too much into your afternoon.
Once you arrive, here are two things we recommend doing in Rose Hall:
- Step inside Rose Hall Great House – This is the perfect activity to do if you’re in the mood for a bit of culture and history the Rose Hall Great House is a great activity. The house itself is visually striking, and its (slightly eerie) backstory only adds to its intrigue. Just know that visiting times run from Monday to Saturday from 9:15 am to 4 pm, so you’ll want to head over straight after an early-ish lunch to really make the most of it. It’s also closed on Sundays and public holidays.
- Browse and unwind at Main Street Rose Hall – This is just a short 15-minute walk from the Great House, and is an easy place to wander around without a plan! Think relaxed shopping, local crafts, and a chance to cool off with an iced coffee or ice cream before heading back. Just keep in mind that it’s open Monday to Saturday until 5 pm and closed on Sundays.
Once you’ve shopped ‘til you drop, you’ll want to grab a taxi and head straight to your dinner spot in Rose Hall.
Dinner – Delmare

For dinner, head to Delmare (it’s only a 5-minute taxi drive away from Main Street Rose Hall). This gorgeous restaurant sits at the Half Moon Resort’s Eclipse area right by the white sand beach (so romantic!), and the vibe is elegant but still relaxed, which makes it a great fit for your farewell meal.
The menu leans heavily into seafood with Italian influences, making the final evening feel a little bit different and special. Highlights include local snapper, whole sea bass, monkfish, and spiny lobster, alongside a mixed grill of the day’s freshest catch. And if you really want to end the night on a high note, you’ll find desserts like tiramisu and rich tortino al cioccolato (divine!).
Delmare has also picked up notable food and service awards in Jamaica, which really adds to that special-occasion feel. Because of this, reservations are required, and the dress code is smart casual (so make sure to bring a change of clothes if needed). Bear in mind that the restaurant is open from 5 pm to 10 pm, so a reservation around 5:30 pm would work well if you’re heading straight here from Main Street Rose Hall.
With the sound of the waves and a great meal in front of you, it’s the perfect final moment to soak in your final evening in Jamaica and reflect on an unforgettable trip.

AIRALO e-SIM Up To 15% Off With Code “DTRAVEL15”
What’s an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card. Instead of buying a little plastic chip and swapping it into your phone, you just download it. It connects your phone to a local network in whatever country you’re visiting — no stores, no waiting, and no fiddling with tiny cards.
In simple terms, it’s the easiest way to get data and stay connected while traveling.
We’ve tested a bunch of eSIMs over the years, and after a few frustrating experiences, we’ve found our favorite — Airalo. It’s fast, reliable, and incredibly easy to use. You can set it up in minutes (even my mom managed it solo on her first try!), and the prices are some of the best out there.
