Things to Do in Moab
1. Take a relaxed sightseeing tour of Arches National Park

Tour Details
First up on the list is this laid-back tour of Arches National Park. We booked it on our first trip to Moab, and it ended up being the highlight of our entire visit!
Over the course of four hours, you’ll get to explore some of the park’s most iconic sights, including Delicate Arch and Balanced Rock. The pace is relaxed and easy, with short walks and plenty of time to take in the views, snap photos, and really appreciate the landscape.
What stood out the most for us on this tour was the guide’s knowledge. Not only did we get to see these incredible formations up close, but we also learned how they were formed and the stories behind them. I’m not a big geology buff by any means, but honestly, this part was super fascinating!

With park entry and all the logistics taken care of, the whole experience felt incredibly easy. All you have to do is show up at the Moab Tourism Center about 15 minutes before your tour time, and then it’s smooth sailing from there. They even throw in a few snacks and drinks for good measure!
If you’re looking for a stress-free way to see the Arches and learn more about its unique geology, this tour is definitely one to book, especially if it’s your first time visiting Moab.
2. Experience Moab’s famous Hell’s Revenge trail on a self-drive UTV adventure

Tour Details
If you’re craving something a little wild, this self-drive UTV adventure around the Hell’s Revenge trail delivers like nothing else!
For approximately two and a half hours, you’ll be behind the wheel of your own UTV navigating Moab’s slickrock terrain. You can expect steep climbs, thrilling descents, and plenty of heart-pounding moments (just trust us on that one!). This really is a full-on adventure that’s guaranteed to get your adrenaline pumping.
If you’re apprehensive about driving the UTV yourself, don’t be. You’ll be well-supported by expert guides who are there the entire time, making sure everything runs smoothly. You’ll also be fully briefed on safety beforehand, so you’ll feel comfortable driving even if it’s your first time.
Getting to drive the UTV yourself is part of the novelty of this tour, but as you make your way along the trail, you’ll also be surrounded by dramatic red rock formations and some of the most stunning desert views. Best of all, you’ll have time to stop and take photos from viewpoints you can only access on a tour like this.
This experience is super popular with visitors, so we recommend booking early (especially during peak season) if this is on your Moab bucket list!
3. Visit Moab Giants Dinosaur Park

If you’re traveling with kids (or just love learning about dinosaurs), Moab Giants Dinosaur Park is a surprisingly fun stop just outside of town. We decided to stop by on one of our trips, and it ended up being way more interesting than we expected!
The park features an outdoor trail, where you’ll come across dozens of life-sized dinosaur models set against the desert landscape. The models are incredibly detailed, which makes it feel a bit like you’re stepping back in time.
The big highlight for us, though, was the PaleoAquarium, where you can learn about prehistoric sea life through immersive exhibits and displays. There’s also a real (yes, real!) dinosaur track site with fossilized footprints and casts of originals.
At around $28 USD for your entrance fee, this park really is such a great value and an easy way to mix things up if you need a break from hiking or off-roading!
4. Go whitewater rafting down the Colorado River

Tour Details
One of the most unforgettable, must-do activities for any adventure-lover visiting Moab is to go whitewater rafting, and we always recommend this afternoon half-day rafting trip because it offers just the right balance of excitement and scenery. It’s also suitable for both beginners and more experienced rafters, so nobody feels left out!
After checking in at the tour office, you’ll take a shuttle out to the Colorado River, where you’ll have a thorough safety orientation to get you up to speed with paddling techniques and what to expect on the water.
Once everyone’s ready, you’ll paddle through a series of Class II rapids and calm stretches of the river where you can take in all the views. You may also catch glimpses of bald eagles and other wildlife along the riverbanks, which is always so special!
Unlike other whitewater rafting experiences that take up the full day, this one only takes around four and a half hours. That means you’ll still have plenty of time to do something in the morning beforehand, and then relax with a well-earned meal when you’re finished.
It’s also worth mentioning that this tour has excellent ratings and fills up quickly during spring and summer, so we recommend booking as soon as possible to secure your preferred date.
5. Take a 4×4 adventure through Arches National Park

Tour Details
If you’re someone who enjoys going off the beaten path, this 4×4 tour through Arches National Park should definitely be on your itinerary! It takes you through the park, off the paved roads, and into areas that most visitors never get to experience.
After being picked up at your hotel or campsite (so convenient), you’ll set off in a specially designed 4×4 vehicle and head deep into the park’s backcountry. Along the way, you’ll visit lesser-known formations like Tower Arch and Eye of the Whale Arch, as well as a number of quiet overlooks where you can take in the scenery without the usual crowds.

The off-road journey itself is a big part of the experience. You’ll travel over rocky terrain and sandy trails, which is honestly so fun! Your guide will also share insights into the park’s geology, history, and landscape, adding context to what you’re seeing and making the experience even more memorable.
Because the tour offers access to so many lesser-known areas, and even a few locations you might recognize in movies, spots do fill up quickly. So if this is one of the main activities you want to do in Moab, we recommend booking your spot as soon as possible so you don’t miss out. Just keep in mind that park entrance fees ($15 USD/person unless you have a park pass) are not included.
6. Enjoy Downtown Moab

No trip to Moab is complete without a trip to the downtown area! It’s vibrant, visitor-friendly, and packed to the brim with art galleries, local shops, and fabulous places to eat and drink.
A great place to start is the Moab Food Truck Park, where you’ll find several different local vendors serving things like tacos, pizzas, hot dogs, banana splits, you name it! This is a great option if you’re traveling with a group or just want to try a few different things in one place.
From there, you can head over to Moab Brewery, which is a local favorite known for its craft beers and friendly vibe. We actually popped in here a few times throughout our trip, and it was hands down one of our favorite spots in town for food and drinks.
If you’re interested in local art, head to Lema’s Kokopelli Gallery and Moab Made. Both offer an incredible showcase of southwestern artwork and handmade goods that make perfect souvenirs.

7. Discover Canyonlands National Park’s highlights

Tour Details
If you’ve got half a day to fill, this Canyonlands National Park tour from Moab is definitely worth checking out. It takes you deep into the Island in the Sky district in a 4WD vehicle, where you’ll visit some of the park’s most dramatic overlooks while learning about the area’s geology and history from your guide.
One of the biggest highlights is the drive along the White Rim Road, which winds through rugged canyon country with unreal views the entire way. You’ll also stop at Gooseneck Overlook, walk out to Musselman Arch, and take in incredible views over the Shafer Trail switchbacks.

Descending those steep switchbacks in a 4WD vehicle was honestly one of the most exciting parts of the tour for us! The route also follows sections of the Colorado River, and there are plenty of opportunities to stop for photos or short walks at scenic overlooks, including the famous Thelma and Louise Point. Everywhere you turn looks like a postcard!
Along the way, you’ll also spot ancient rock art and learn about the Pueblo people who once lived here, which adds a really cool historical side to all of the incredible scenery.
When planning your day, keep in mind that national park entrance fees aren’t included and cost $15 USD per person unless you have a valid National Park pass. This is a super popular tour in Moab, so we definitely recommend booking ahead during peak season!
8. Go canyoneering

Tour Details
If you’re looking for a true outdoor adventure, you’ve got to get yourself booked on this private canyoneering experience from Moab. It offers a unique combination of hiking, climbing, and rappelling, and trust me when I tell you, there’s just nothing like it anywhere else on the planet!
After being picked up at your hotel, your guide will kick things off with a full safety briefing and an introduction to canyoning and repelling techniques. Then, you’ll head out to explore the heart of canyon country on foot. Over the course of your journey, you’ll complete a series of four rappels, descending into tight canyon passages and navigating your way through towering rock formations.
We absolutely love this tour because it’s private and beginner-friendly. You don’t have to have any prior canyoneering experience before you book, and all equipment is provided, which is super convenient and helps keep costs down. Hotel pickup is also included, so you don’t have to worry about parking or navigating to the trailhead on your own.
Because it’s a private tour, spots are limited, so we recommend booking your spot as far in advance as possible.
Why We Book Tours with Viator
Viator is a trusted online booking system for tours around the world! We almost always book our tours using Viator for a couple of reasons:
9. Explore Moab’s hiking trails

You probably already have a few trails in mind for your trip to Moab, but we still wanted to include some of our absolute favorites in this list!
In Arches National Park, the go-to hike is the Delicate Arch Trail. It’s a bit of a climb, but the payoff is huge. We knew the views would be good, but being able to say that we stood in front of one of the most iconic landmarks in the Southwest was so worth it!
If you’re feeling even more adventurous, the Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park is another spot worth visiting. It’s a maze-like area of narrow sandstone fins and slot passages. This particular spot can only be explored with a ranger or individual permit, so it feels a bit more untouched and adventurous compared to the rest of the park.
Over in Canyonlands National Park, trails like the Mesa Arch Trail and Grand View Point Trail are much shorter and easier, but they still offer incredible panoramic views across the desert landscape. These trails work really well if you’re short on time and just want something quick and rewarding.
10. Discover Moab in one day: Arches, Canyonlands, Dead Horse

Tour Details
If you only have a few days in Moab and really want to maximize your time while you’re there, this Moab in a day tour is exactly what you need. It covers three of the area’s top destinations, including Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, and Dead Horse Point State Park, all in one well-paced, easy day.
Throughout the tour, you’ll stop at the major viewpoints and landmarks in each park, giving you the perfect introduction to the region’s dramatic desert landscape. The itinerary is carefully planned so you can see a lot without feeling rushed, and your guide will bring each stop to life with expert insights into the region’s history and geology.

Snacks, water, and a light picnic lunch are all included, which is a really nice touch that keeps things simple and stress-free! Just keep in mind that while your Dead Horse Point State Park fee is included, entrance fees to the National Parks are not included and will cost around $30 USD per person extra (unless you have a National Park pass).
This tour is super popular with first-time visitors and has hundreds of five-star reviews, so we definitely recommend booking your preferred date as early as possible, especially if you’re only in Moab for a short window of time.
11. Go ziplining

Tour Details
If you want to crank up your trip’s fun factor another notch, this ziplining experience in Moab is a no-brainer. It packs so much excitement into just a few hours, and I was honestly in awe of the incredible views from above.
In terms of what to expect, you’ll meet at the tour operator’s office in Moab, and then together, with a group of no more than 10 people, you’ll head out for a 20-minute off-road drive to the zipline starting point. When you’re there, you’ll clip in and set off on your first zipline, where you’ll enjoy bird-like views of the canyons, the cliffs, and the sprawling desert below.
The guides are super chill and friendly, which I really appreciated as someone who was (not going to lie) a bit nervous going into it. Their tips and stories kept things light and fun, and I loved how they shared tidbits about the landscape throughout the entire trip.
Honestly, seeing Moab from above is unlike anything I’ve ever done, and it’s something we’ll never forget! Even if you’re new to experiences like this, the guides will make sure you feel comfortable and confident every step of the way, and the views from the top are definitely worth it!
12. Explore the trails by biking

Moab is a mountain biking haven, but it can get quite technical quickly depending on the trail and your experience level. That’s why it’s worth choosing your route carefully, especially if you’re new to riding in desert terrain.
If you’ve never biked here before, the Klonzo Trails are a great place to start. These beginner-friendly routes offer smooth, flowing paths through red rock canyons and slickrock formations, giving you a taste of Moab’s beautiful scenery without anything too demanding. You can ride at your own pace, stop for as many photos as you want, and really take in the landscape as you go.
Didn’t bring your own bike on your trip? No problem. Most shops in downtown Moab have bikes and helmets to rent, and the staff can recommend trails based on your skill level, time, and how adventurous you’re feeling.
As a word of advice from someone who loves to mountain bike but has seen how quickly things can go wrong, always check trail conditions before you head out, bring plenty of water, and don’t forget to wear your helmet (it should come with your bike rental)!

The rooms are plenty big enough to spread out any hiking or adventure gear you might have brought with you. There’s also an outdoor pool, fitness center, and daily complimentary breakfast, which is handy for fueling up before a full day outdoors. Best of all, the hotel is just a short walk to places like the Moab Brewery, so you’ll have somewhere easy to unwind in the evenings.
In terms of pricing, you can expect rooms to fall between $150 and $250 USD per night, which is incredible value for such a great location. Secure this gorgeous mid-range stay in Moab before it fills up here!
Budget – $
If you’re traveling on a budget but still want a comfortable and central place to stay, we cannot recommend Red Stone Inn enough!
While it doesn’t have all the amenities of the higher-end options, it more than makes up for it with its unbeatable location right in downtown Moab. You’ll be within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and grocery stores, making it super easy to explore the area without needing to rent a car, especially if you book tours with hotel pickup.
Another big plus here is the outdoor pool and hot tub. Plus, they’re pet-friendly, so you can bring your favorite furry hiking pal with you.

What’s an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card. Instead of buying a little plastic chip and swapping it into your phone, you just download it. It connects your phone to a local network in whatever country you’re visiting — no stores, no waiting, and no fiddling with tiny cards.
In simple terms, it’s the easiest way to get data and stay connected while traveling.
We’ve tested a bunch of eSIMs over the years, and after a few frustrating experiences, we’ve found our favorite — Airalo. It’s fast, reliable, and incredibly easy to use. You can set it up in minutes (even my mom managed it solo on her first try!), and the prices are some of the best out there.
