Cozumel is full of unique things to do, so it’s worth staying for a few days rather than just taking a day trip. I recommend booking these experiences in advance, as they are popular and can sell out if you wait!
- Go on a food tour – No trip to Mexico is complete without diving into its culinary scene, so this food tour of Cozumel is a must! We loved learning about Cozumel’s Mexican/Caribbean-inspired dishes and tasting as many as possible. Spoiler: it was all delicious!
- Snorkel with turtles – We couldn’t resist diving into Cozumel’s stunning waters, and this snorkeling tour made it possible. We stopped by four distinct snorkel locations, including the famous El Celio starfish sanctuary and a turtle sanctuary!
- Explore the island on an ATV – Discover Cozumel’s rugged landscapes on this ATV tour! We stopped by famous sights and also got off the beaten path, but the views were incredible the whole way. Plus, it was a thrilling addition to our itinerary!

Renting a Car in Mexico
Undoubtedly, one of the best ways to get around Mexico is in a rental car.
I struggled to get around by bus and taxi for the longest time. But after renting a car in Cancun in 2023, I never looked back. It allowed me to explore the country without worrying about tours or taxis. It was why I fell in love with Mexico and eventually decided to live here periodically.
I refuse to use local services whenever I rent a car in Mexico. The truth is they sometimes can’t be trusted or come with hidden fees (or costly insurance that doesn’t make sense.) The rates on Discover Cars are cheap, too, with the average rental costing around $25 USD per day. Full coverage insurance can be added for an extra $10 USD a day too.
Driving in Mexico also only requires a driver’s license using the Roman alphabet. If yours uses another like Japan and China, you simply need an international driving permit.
