Itinerary Overview
Capri is a destination that invites you to slow down and take in the beauty of its surroundings. But the island can get busy, especially in peak season, so don’t try to rush through your time here; the best experiences come from taking things at a gentler pace. Whether you have only one day or can stretch it into two, this itinerary is designed to strike a balance between iconic sights and relaxed moments.
Getting to Capri is straightforward: ferries run regularly from Naples and deliver you right to the marina. From there, you’ll need to head up to Capri Town. The most fun way is by funicular, which departs every 15 minutes from the Grand Marina station and takes just 4 minutes to reach the Piazzetta at the top. Tickets are €2.40 each way, or you can grab a daily ticket for around €7.20 if you plan to use it more. Buses and taxis are also available, but we think the funicular is part of the Capri experience and the perfect way to start your visit.
Day 1: Start your visit with a private boat trip around the island, enjoy a quick sandwich lunch, stroll through the Gardens of Augustus, and finish the day with either a sunset cruise or aperitivo in town before a fresh seafood dinner.
Day 2: Spend the morning at Marina Piccola before kayaking to Capri’s caves and beaches, enjoy a leisurely pizza lunch with a view, and wrap up the trip with an authentic Italian cooking class.
Day 1
Morning – Relax on a private boat trip
There’s no better way to start your time in Capri than by seeing the island from the water. While public tours are available, this private boat tour is so worth it for the comfort, flexibility, and ease, especially when it comes to visiting the famous Blue Grotto without the hassle of crowds. We recommend booking the “relaxation” tour at 9:30 am, which lasts four hours and gets you back around 1:30 pm, leaving the rest of your afternoon free.
The trip begins down by the marina, so we hopped on the funicular from Capri Town for a short four-minute ride with beautiful views on the way down. Once on board, we cruised past some of Capri’s most spectacular sights, from the glittering limestone walls of the White Grotta to the fiery-red Villa Malaparte and the dramatic Natural Arch carved into the cliffs. Gliding by the iconic Faraglioni rock formations was a real highlight, and our skipper slowed down so we could take it all in!
We loved that the tour allowed plenty of time to stop for swims in hidden coves and snorkeling in clear turquoise water. Towels and gear were provided, so it couldn’t have been easier to just dive in. Depending on conditions, we also had the option to visit the Blue Grotto (note that tickets are not included with the tour price), or pass through the emerald shimmer of the Green Grotto before circling around to see the Punta Carena Lighthouse.

Lunch – Salumeria da Aldo
After your boat tour, keep things simple and delicious with a stop at Salumeria da Aldo, conveniently located right next to the marina. This little deli is famous for its generously stuffed sandwiches, made with fresh bread, local cheeses, and the kind of cured meats Italians do best.

Afternoon – Stroll through the Gardens of Augustus
Now that you’re stuffed with delicious food, it’s a good idea to stop by your hotel, freshen up, and then head back out to explore Capri Town. Just a 10-minute walk from the Piazzetta, the Gardens of Augustus are one of the island’s most beautiful and historic spots.
We spent about an hour here, wandering through the terraces filled with vibrant flowers, lush greenery, and sweeping views of the cliffs below. From the gardens, you’ll also get one of the best vantage points of the Faraglioni rocks rising dramatically from the sea.
Evening Option 1: Sunset cruise
Evenings on Capri are special, and there’s no better way to take them in than from the water. Our first option for the evening today is this private cruise, where you’ll set out on a traditional wooden gozzo boat and watch the island soften into the warm colors of dusk. Departing at 5:30 pm, the cruise lasts 2–3 hours, giving you time for sightseeing, a swim, and an aperitif before heading back for dinner.
We boarded our boat and settled onto the padded sundecks as we glided along the coastline, passing landmarks like the dramatic Faraglioni rocks, the pale cliffs of the White Grotta, and the relaxed beach at Marina Piccola. With snorkeling gear on hand, we even had the chance for a quick evening swim.
The highlight came as we dropped anchor near the Punta Carena Lighthouse, just in time for the sun to sink toward the horizon. Drinks and snacks were served as the sky shifted from gold to rose, and it felt like the island had slowed down just for us!

Evening Option 2: Relax in town
If you’d rather keep things low-key, spend the evening soaking up Capri Town. Start in La Piazzetta (Piazza Umberto I), the island’s famous main square and the heart of its social life, where locals and visitors gather as the sun goes down. From there, take a leisurely walk to the Belvedere Tragara for sweeping views of the coastline and the Faraglioni rocks; it’s one of the best spots in town to catch the last light of day.
You can also wander Via Camerelle, Capri’s famous shopping street. Whether you’re browsing high-end boutiques or picking up handmade leather sandals from a local artisan, it’s a fun way to take in the town’s elegant side. After a beautiful day soaking up the sights, now it’s time to end your first day with dinner at Pescheria Le Botteghe, a cozy seafood restaurant right in the heart of Capri Town. The menu is all about the catch of the day, prepared simply to let the fresh flavors shine, including grilled fish, pasta with clams, and seafood crudo.
We loved the relaxed yet elegant vibe, with tables spilling out onto the narrow streets so you can dine while watching the evening buzz of the town. It’s a popular spot, so reservations are a good idea, especially in summer. If you’re craving authentic, unfussy seafood in a central location, this is one of the best places to go.
Day 2
Morning – Check out Marina Piccola
After a full first day of exploring Capri by boat, garden paths, and winding streets, day two starts on a slower, more relaxed note. Make your way down to Marina Piccola, one of the island’s most scenic seaside spots. It’s about a 20-minute downhill walk from Capri Town, so you can either enjoy breakfast at your hotel or grab a quick espresso and croissant before setting off.
Capri isn’t really known for wide sandy beaches, but Marina Piccola makes up for it with its dramatic setting. Tucked into a sheltered bay with views of the Faraglioni rocks, it’s the perfect place for a swim or a lazy stroll along the shoreline. We loved starting the day here! The atmosphere was relaxed, the water inviting, and it felt like a peaceful contrast to the buzz of Capri Town.
Mid-day – Kayak to Capri’s caves and beaches
If you want to experience Capri from a completely different perspective, this 1.5-hour kayak tour is the way to do it! Even if you’ve never picked up a paddle before, this excursion is beginner-friendly and a great chance to explore parts of the island that bigger boats can’t reach. The tour departs from Marina Piccola at 11 am, so you’ll already be in the right spot after your morning by the beach.
We started with a short lesson on paddling basics before setting out from the legendary Scoglio delle Sirene, the “Sirens’ Rock” from Homer’s Odyssey. From the water, the views of Via Krupp zigzagging down the cliffs were unforgettable, and our guide filled the journey with fun stories and island legends.
We paddled into sea caves like the Grotta dell’Acqua and one of Capri’s shimmering Green Grottoes, where the sunlight bounced off the walls in a magical green glow. There was even time for a quick swim in the crystal-clear water before continuing through the striking Arco della Stella.

We loved the relaxed, welcoming vibe; it’s popular with locals as well as visitors, which always feels like a good sign. The menu covers plenty of classics, but the pizza is the real star here: thin, crispy, and topped with fresh, simple ingredients. Pair it with a glass of local white and you’ve got the perfect midday reset before an afternoon of exploring.
Afternoon – Your choice!
As we’ve said, Capri is best enjoyed slowly, so how you spend your afternoon is really up to you. Here are a few great options depending on your mood:
