And after exploring these stunning spots, we got to visit the Cathedral and Magnetic termite mounds, which really were a sight to behold. I think they must have been at least three times as tall as us!

If you’re into WWII history, don’t miss this military heritage tour of Darwin! We absolutely loved this tour because it’s not just about dates and facts, but rather untold stories, personal connections, and standing in the very places where history was made!
Our guide, Gerry, knew so much about wartime history since his father and uncles served in the Royal Australian Navy, which really gave the tour a personal touch. We started at the Darwin Aviation Museum, where we got to stand beneath a massive B-52 bomber and see lots of wartime aircraft up close.
The exhibits here are really well thought out, and they tell the story of the 1942 bombings in a very moving and engaging way.
From there, we drove through Darwin while Gerry showed us where bombs fell, and shared photographs to illustrate just how devastating those attacks were. It’s one thing to read about it, but quite another to stand on the very streets that were hit and hear the stories of how local families, including Gerry’s own, were affected.
This tour is also great if you’re short on time. It packs a lot into just four hours, but it never feels rushed. The small group size meant we could ask plenty of questions and hear insider stories that we never would have heard otherwise.

This gourmet dinner tour is hands down THE best way to experience Darwin’s incredible foodie culture. We spent four hours exploring some of the city’s best restaurants, where we got to taste the best cuisine that the Northern Territory has to offer, from farm fresh produce to Aboriginal bush foods. The variety was incredible!
We started with paperbark-smoked Humpty Doo barramundi, which was paired with a tangy bush tomato salsa, then moved on to tender Rum Jungle buffalo carpaccio drizzled with river mint salsa verde. And yes, it was every bit as delicious as it sounds. You won’t find food like this anywhere else in the world!
We also got to enjoy char-grilled banana prawns and the most amazing black rice brulee with pandan custard. But the food was only one part of what made this tour special! We also got to explore Darwin’s street art scene and hear the backstories to some of the most vibrant murals along Austin Lane and West Lane.

I know that we talked about visiting Kakadu National Park earlier in this blog, but this tour offers a totally different experience because you actually get to fly there! We loved traveling to the park on a fixed-wing plane from Darwin, as we got to take in spectacular aerial views the entire way there. It’s way more fun than traveling by minibus, let me tell you!
Once we landed, we carried on exploring Kakadu on a yellow water cruise! This is a fantastic chance to spot crocodiles, and we even saw a few of them hunting barra. We really got to see this park from every angle on this tour!
Later on, we got to visit an Aboriginal cultural center, where we learned about the rich heritage and traditions of the Indigenous people of the region. We had way more time to explore the park, and we never had to rush on this tour because the flight saved us hours of road travel.

If you’re after the perfect way to end a day in Darwin, this sunset cruise is it! I tried out quite a few different sunset cruises while living here, and this one was definitely my favorite. It’s got bottomless sparkling wine, a seven-course tapas dinner, and gorgeous sunset views—does it get any better?

What’s more, there are also on-site laundry facilities, which you’ll definitely need after some time spent out in the Darwin sun!
Their rooftop pool and bar is always busy and the perfect place to party and meet other travelers. If you’re a solo traveler looking to get to know locals and other travelers, this is the place to be!

I love The Leea Resort Darwin for its peaceful tropical vibe right in the middle of the city. With lush gardens, palm-fringed pools, and even a waterfall feature, it feels like a mini oasis tucked inside Darwin’s CBD. The resort is just a short stroll from Mitchell Street, so you’re close to restaurants and shops, but far enough to enjoy a quiet night’s sleep.
The rooms are modern, bright, and excellent value for couples, families, or solo travelers. Some even come with kitchenettes—great for longer stays. This apartment building is located right near the CBD, not far from the waterfront, and includes everything you’d expect from a fully self-contained apartment. You can choose between a two-bedroom, 3-bedroom, and 4-bedroom apartment, which sleep up to eight people.
All units are fitted with a full kitchen as well as a patio with a BBQ. The building also has a pool as well as a gym, so you can get in some exercise or simply relax whenever you’d like.

Renting a Car, Campervan, or Motorhome in Australia
With many must-see destinations in Australia outside city limits, one of the best ways to get around is driving yourself!

If you’re looking to save money on travel insurance, we currently use and recommend SafetyWing. We’ve been using their coverage since 2018 and they’ve had our backs when we needed emergency flights and got sick overseas.

We’ve also found it handy that it’s a monthly payment rather than a lump sum, and you can get a refund for unused time.
