Today is all about snorkeling, and we’re starting the day off with this Kealakekua Bay tour! From the moment we boarded the boat in Kona, we knew we were in for something special. Arriving at Kealakekua Bay, we were immediately captivated by the crystal-clear water and vibrant coral. The adventure started with a scenic boat ride, where we were treated to a gorgeous Hawaiian sunset on board. It set the tone for an unforgettable evening. 

Once we arrived at the site, our guides used lights to attract plankton, and before we knew it, manta rays began gliding beneath us! Watching them swim and feed right below us was such a magnificent sight.

We also have to shout out the amazing crew, who went above and beyond to make sure we felt safe and comfortable while learning about these fascinating creatures. We were relieved to find out that manta rays are completely harmless and have no stingers.

The tour ends with hot drinks and a relaxing boat ride back to shore. When we went, the sky was crystal clear, and we had the most amazing view of the stars. If you’re on the Big Island, this is definitely one of the most unforgettable experiences you’ll have.

Now, you would have already visited a coffee farm during your tour on day 1, but you can never get enough coffee, am I right? In fact, the area of Holualoa is known as the “coffee belt” and is home to plenty of options just waiting for you to explore. With so many coffee farms in the area, it’s easy to visit one (or two!) and learn more about the coffee-making process while enjoying some fresh, local brews.

• Greenwell Farms – Just a 17-minute drive from Kona, Greenwell Farms offers free tours of the farm without reservations. As the most popular coffee farm in the area, it’s a must-see for coffee lovers, with a chance to explore the beautiful farm and sample some of the finest Kona coffee.

• Heavenly Hawaiian Kona Coffee Farm – Only 15 minutes from Kona, Heavenly Hawaiian offers a one-hour tour for $30 USD, which you can book online here. This farm is known for its unique, high-quality coffee, and the tour provides a great overview of the entire coffee cultivation process.

• Hula Daddy Kona Coffee – A quick 10-minute drive from Kona, Hula Daddy offers a one-hour tour for $35 USD (reserve your spot in advance here). Known for its gourmet coffee, this tour is a great opportunity to see a family-owned farm up close and taste their exceptional brews.

Whether you’re craving fish, shrimp, or a vegetarian option, the generous portions and fresh ingredients make it a great choice.

The laid-back atmosphere and variety of sides and drinks make it a relaxing spot to enjoy a tasty meal. After lunch, you’ll be ready to dive into the next adventure with a full belly and a smile!

Afternoon – Explore Downtown Kona or relax on the beach

After lunch, you have two great options for the afternoon: explore the charming streets of Downtown Kona or kick back and relax on one of the island’s beautiful beaches. Whether you’re in the mood for sightseeing or soaking up more sunshine, there’s something for everyone.

Downtown Kona

Stroll down Ali’i Drive and take in the quaint shops, local eateries, and stunning ocean views. You can also walk along Kailua Pier, a popular spot for watching the sunset and people-watching.

This dinner cruise to Kealakekua Bay quickly became one of our favorite ways to spend an evening on the Big Island. From the hospitality and delicious food to the breathtaking views of the Kona coastline, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

The adventure starts at 4 pm, but we recommend arriving by 3:30 pm for a smooth check-in. Departing from downtown Kona, we were welcomed aboard with a refreshing drink, setting the tone for a fun evening. As we sailed, live Hawaiian music played, and a local historian shared captivating stories.

Kealakekua Bay at sunset is nothing short of stunning. We got an up-close view of the famous Captain Cook monument and learned about the tragic encounter that occurred here. To top it off, we were lucky enough to spot a pod of dolphins swimming alongside the boat—such a magical moment!

Dinner was delicious, with a variety of local and vegetarian options. The crew was excellent, ensuring we were well taken care of. On the return, the music continued, and some guests danced under the stars on the spacious deck, making the evening even more memorable.

For dinner, head to Cafe Pesto Hilo Bay, one of the best restaurants in town, located right downtown. This cozy spot offers a fantastic selection of dishes, blending fresh local ingredients with creative flavors.
