After visiting Aruba several times, we’ve had the chance to try a ton of activities, from submarine dives and parasailing to scuba diving and snorkeling, so adventure is definitely calling your name.

The hard part is deciding which ones are worth your time. To make things easier, we’ve picked 10 of the best shore excursions in Aruba, with options for food lovers, adrenaline-seekers, beachgoers, and anyone wanting to see as much as possible before getting back on the ship.

Why We Book Shore Excursions Independently  

We almost always book our shore excursions independently, and Aruba is the ideal place to do this. We’ve used Viator many times for cruise port tours and have never had an issue! The key is choosing excursions designed specifically for cruise passengers, like the ones we’ve included below.

The main cruise port is in Oranjestad, which is the capital city. We’ve included pickup details and travel times throughout this guide, so you’ll know exactly how each tour works from this port.

Independent excursions are often more affordable than those sold by cruise lines, while offering very similar experiences. They also tend to run in smaller groups, which usually makes the day feel more relaxed and personal.

Many operators plan their timings around cruise schedules and ask for your ship details when you book. Some also offer refunds if your ship arrives late or misses the port. We still recommend checking the timings carefully and contacting the provider if anything feels tight, but overall, we’ve always found independent excursions to be a reliable and convenient option.

Best Aruba Shore Excursions 

1. Take a horseback ride in Arikok National Park 

Looking for an unforgettable way to explore the natural side of Aruba? Then you must add this horseback adventure in Arikok National Park to your itinerary! Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned rider, this tour is for everyone and won’t take up too much of your time either. 

Don’t worry if you’ve never ridden a horse before! Once you meet your knowledgeable guide, they pair you up with a horse suited to your skill level and provide clear instructions before you set off. You’ll build up your confidence in no time!

The trail is something else! It winds through Arikok’s dramatic landscapes, from rocky desert paths to breathtaking highland views. National Park is even home to some unique species such as the burrowing owl, so keep your eyes peeled as you ride!

After riding for a while, you’ll reach Conchi, a natural volcanic rock pool filled with crystal-clear water. It’s accessible only by horse, 4×4, or foot, making it feel like a secluded piece of paradise all your own (at least for a little while). Here you can choose to go swimming or take in the beauty of the crashing waves against the rocks before heading back on your horse. 

We think this tour is perfect for those who want to explore Aruba’s natural wonders in a relaxing, unique way. Better yet, anyone aged 8 and up can participate, so it’s a great activity for the entire family. 

We also love that you can choose between a morning or afternoon tour, with port pickup available at 8 am or 3 pm. At just under four hours, with free cancellation available, it’s also super easy to squeeze into your port day. 

2. See the North Coast on an ATV/UTV adventure  

If you want to see a different side of Aruba and get to places you can’t reach in a regular car, this ATV/UTV tour is a fun way to do it!

Our first stop was Black Stone Beach, and I loved how different it looked from Aruba’s usual white-sand beaches. From there, we headed to the Baby Natural Bridge, a small limestone arch near the ruins of the famous Natural Bridge. Next up was the California Lighthouse, where I really enjoyed the panoramic views and seeing how different the island looks from both sides.

We also passed Andicuri Beach, the Bushiribana Ruins, and Wariruri Bridge, another impressive rock formation. The guides shared lots of facts about Aruba along the way, which made each stop even more interesting.

Boca Catalina Beach was the final stop, and jumping in the water after getting covered in dust was the perfect ending! Yes, you will get dusty, so bring goggles and a bandana to cover your nose and mouth (or you’ll get the chance to buy some along the way). We were offered a cookie, but if you need more, packing lunch is always a good idea. 

Port pickup and drop-off are also available, which is handy for cruise passengers. Even better, the whole tour takes around four hours, and you can choose from two departure times depending on your schedule—just be ready for pickup about 45 minutes early.

3. Take a 4×4 jeep excursion to Natural Pool and Baby Beach  

Last time we were in Aruba, we did this 4×4 off-road adventure and had the best time! If you’re into exploring stunning beaches and off-the-beaten-path natural landmarks, this tour is for you! 

I’ve been on many ATV tours before, but this was my first time on a Land Rover, and let me tell you, they’re built to tackle the island’s rough terrain like a pro. We went places ATVs could never reach! 

The first stop is Baby Beach, one of the island’s most popular beaches (for good reason!). It has clear turquoise water, with soft, white sand… It’s hard to resist jumping into the warm water for a snorkel!

Then, we headed to the famous Conchi Natural Pool. Nestled in Arikok National Park, it’s protected by volcanic rocks, so the waves gently splash in. It’s like swimming in your own little paradise! We also visited other iconic landmarks, like the California Lighthouse, with a cool history tied to an 1800s shipwreck, and the Gold Mill Ruins, remnants of Aruba’s gold-mining days.

The day was perfectly balanced, with plenty of sightseeing and time to relax and take in the surrounding natural beauty. It’s also not far from the cruise terminal, only a 6-minute taxi ride away. Keep in mind it’s an 8-hour tour starting at 8:30 am, so it works best for ships with extended stays or overnight port calls.  

4. Learn about Aruba’s history and landmarks on an island tour 

If you’re looking to explore Aruba in comfort, this full-day island tour is perfect! Hop aboard an air-conditioned coach and enjoy a relaxing ride around the island to all the best stops without any hassle. Whether you’re into history, nature, or just stunning views, this tour has it all, and the comfortable ride makes it even better. 

The day starts with a visit to the Aruba Aloe Factory, where you’ll learn all about the island’s aloe vera industry—did you know it’s been thriving for over 160 years? Then, it’s off to the California Lighthouse for a panoramic view of the island (and an optional climb if you’re feeling adventurous!).

One of my favorite stops was the Casibari Rock Formations, where you can climb the boulders for an unbeatable view. The Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins are also pretty neat and take you back in time to Aruba’s gold-rush era. After all that exploring, the tour ends at Baby Beach, where you can cool off in the serene waters of the artificial lagoon. There’s also a spot for lunch here; just be sure to bring some extra cash! 

This tour is ideal if you want to sit back and enjoy the island’s highlights in a relaxed, stress-free way. It’s a great option for cruise passengers too, with port pickup available and 7 hours to spare. 

5. Go parasailing 

If parasailing has been sitting on your bucket list, there’s no better place to finally give it a go than Aruba! On this parasailing adventure, you’ll soar high above the Caribbean with incredible views of the island’s turquoise water, white-sand beaches, and coastline below.

And even if you’ve been parasailing before, Aruba is worth doing it all over again. There’s just something extra special about seeing this beautiful island from above!

6. Relax on a snorkeling and catamaran cruise 

Catamaran cruises are one of my favorite tropical island activities. There is nothing better than relaxing on a luxurious boat with a cocktail in hand. So, if you’re like me, then you must go on this catamaran cruise!  

We set sail from Palm Beach, and I quickly made myself comfortable in one of the nets at the front of the boat, soaking up the sun. Before long, we arrived at the iconic Antilla Shipwreck. Snorkeling around this eerie shipwreck was such an incredible experience, and the history behind the wreck is almost equally as fascinating. The ship was deliberately sunk during WWII to keep it from getting captured by the Allies – how crazy is that?

Our next stop was Catalina Bay, which was equally stunning. The water here is crystal clear and so warm to swim in. Plus, the snorkeling is top-notch. Hundreds of tropical fish surrounded me! 

The crew made sure everything was smooth sailing, from keeping us safe in the water to keeping the drinks flowing on deck. We also really appreciated the included snacks! 

Whether you’re an avid snorkeler or just want to relax on board, this trip offers something for every type of traveler, including those cruising. Since it’s just a 10-minute taxi ride from the cruise port, it’s an easy option for cruise passengers. You can also pick from three different times; just remember, check-in is 30 minutes before your tour. 

7. Learn how to scuba dive or go scuba diving 

Want to learn how to scuba dive? This fully private experience is a lot of fun and lets you go at your own pace. I know the idea of scuba diving can feel a little overwhelming at first, which is why every dive starts with a safety briefing. Certified instructors explain the dive plan, how the equipment works, and the key safety guidelines, so it feels less scary and more exciting. 

Better yet, there’s no strict time limit, so there’s no need to rush either. Take as much time as you need to get comfortable before heading into the shallow water and trying out the equipment. Next, you’ll do a few simple exercises to get ready before heading deeper, to a maximum depth of 40 feet (12 meters). How exciting!

Then it’s time for the real dive! Coral reefs and plenty of tropical fish surround you, and you might even spot a turtle. That depends on the dive site, though, which the instructor chooses based on the best ocean conditions that day.

We think this is an especially convenient option for cruise passengers. The meeting point is just a 15-minute taxi ride away, and the whole thing takes around two and a half hours, so it’s easy to fit into your cruise schedule. Plus, you’ll have plenty to talk about with your fellow passengers over dinner that night!

Scuba diving tour for certified divers  

If you’re already a certified scuba diver, this 2-tank dive excursion is a fun way to spend a few hours underwater in Aruba! 

For starters, the boat was really comfortable, with enough space to spread out and fresh fruit, snacks, and water available at all times. We had two dive masters, each taking a small group of around six or seven divers, so it didn’t feel crowded. And there was plenty to see underwater, too. We spotted eagle rays, turtles, lots of fish, and a few eels!

This is also a great option for cruise passengers, with complimentary port pickup and drop-off available. And since the whole trip takes around four hours, it’s easy enough to fit into a port day. Keep in mind that you’ll need to be certified and have dived within the past two years, and you can either bring your own equipment or rent everything you need. 

8. Explore underwater in a submarine 

Even though I love snorkeling and scuba diving, I understand it’s not for everyone, which is why this underwater submarine experience is so cool! It brings you deep into the ocean to get a close look at Aruba’s marine life without getting wet!

In fact, this US Coast Guard-certified submarine can actually go as deep as 130 feet (40 meters), which is deeper than most scuba divers can go! So even if you’re an avid sea explorer, you’ll still find this experience really neat. 

The journey kicks off in Oranjestad with a quick safety briefing before you board the vessel and take a seat by the porthole windows. We passed Barcadera Reef, teeming with tropical fish, sponges, and colorful coral. We even saw an eel, so keep your eyes peeled! 

But the real highlight was passing two incredible shipwrecks resting on the ocean floor. Each had its own mysterious story, which was narrated by the friendly and knowledgeable crew. It felt like we were in an underwater documentary!

At the end of the experience, you get an official dive certificate to commemorate your deep-sea adventure, which makes for a great souvenir. It’s an unforgettable experience for all ages and, with its convenient location just a 10-minute walk from the cruise port and short length, it’s an easy one to fit into your port day. 

9. Seabob to shipwreck 

We love snorkeling in Aruba, but this Seabob adventure makes getting through the water a whole lot easier! If you’ve never been on one before, it feels like riding a motorcycle underwater. They’re easy to learn, though, and as soon as you let go of the gas, they stop. And don’t worry, the instructors also give clear instructions before you head out, so you know exactly what you’re doing. 

I definitely didn’t mind the extra push as we headed deeper to see the Antilla shipwreck up close. Your arms might get tired after a while, but honestly, it’s worth it! We saw tons of fish, turtles, and even a manta ray. I also had a pelican catch a ride with me, which was definitely not something I expected!

It’s a small-group tour too, which I always prefer for this type of experience because it doesn’t feel rushed. Even better, kids can join as well, so it’s something the whole family can do together.

Port pickup and drop-off are also included, and several departure times throughout the day make it a fun option for cruise travelers who want a little underwater adventure. Plus, if you still want some beach time, there’s plenty of time for that too!

10. Kayak to Seaglass Island 

If you’re into kayaking, this see-through kayak tour to Sea Glass Island takes the experience to the next level! Why? Because you’ll paddle through Aruba’s crystal-clear waters and get to see the marine life underneath without even sticking your head in the water!

But the real highlight is arriving at Sea Glass Island, and I have to say, it’s one of my favorite places in Aruba. It’s covered in colorful sea glass treasures just waiting to be discovered, so it really does feel like a treasure hunt, especially when you have a hand rake and a bag to collect all the glass. 

It’s perfect for sea glass collectors and nature lovers, and there’s lots to explore once you arrive. I highly recommend wearing reef shoes, though, as you’ll be walking over sea glass and rocks, and flip-flops aren’t the best footwear for that. 

The meeting point is about a 15-minute drive from the port, and a taxi is the easiest way to get there. With multiple start times and small groups of no more than 14 people, we think it’s a convenient option for cruise passengers looking to do something a little different from off-roading.

Where to Stay Before or After your Cruise

If you’re cruising to Aruba, there’s a good chance your trip will start from either Miami or Ft Lauderdale, and we recommend arriving a night or two before setting sail. This gives you some extra time to explore, relax, and avoid the stress of traveling to the port on the same day as your cruise.

In Miami, Downtown is our top pick since you’ll be close to PortMiami, Bayside Marketplace, and plenty of restaurants and attractions. If you’re sailing from Ft Lauderdale, we recommend staying near Las Olas Boulevard or Fort Lauderdale Beach, where you’ll be close to great restaurants, the waterfront, and just a short drive from Port Everglades.

Courtyard Miami Downtown Brickell Area – $$$ 

Courtyard Miami Downtown Brickell Area is a great option if you want something comfortable and well-located for a short stay. It sits right between Downtown and Brickell, so you’ve got easy access to both areas, plus you’re only a short drive from the cruise port.

The hotel has a modern, business-style feel, with spacious rooms and a reliable setup that works well for a quick city stop. There’s also a pool and on-site dining, which is handy if you don’t feel like heading out after a long travel day.

The Elser Hotel Miami is a solid choice for cruise travelers who want a little extra space before or after setting sail. It’s right in Downtown Miami, close to the waterfront and Bayside Marketplace, with an easy drive to PortMiami.

The rooms here are more like apartments, with full kitchens and living areas, plus floor-to-ceiling windows in some units. We think this is a great option if you’re staying for a few nights or just want somewhere a bit more comfortable to spread out.

CitizenM Miami World Center is a great budget-friendly option if you want something modern and central. It’s located near the Worldcenter complex, so you’re close to shops, restaurants, and transport links, plus PortMiami is just a short drive away, making it super convenient for cruise passengers.

The rooms are compact, but they’re very well designed, with a smart layout that makes the most of the space. The hotel also has a fun, tech-forward feel, with self-check-in and a stylish rooftop pool area. It’s a great pick if you’re happy with a smaller room in exchange for a great location and lower price.
