Things to do in Nice, France
1. Explore the French Riviera with a local guide

Tour Details
If glitz, glamour, and jaw-dropping Mediterranean views are on your Nice bucket list, this small-group day tour of the French Riviera is a must! Visiting six different towns in just one day, it’s the perfect way to make the most of your time while soaking in the highlights.
The itinerary is jam-packed, but a few moments really stood out to me. First up was Eze, a picture-perfect medieval village perched high above the sea. Wandering its cobblestone streets and taking in the sweeping views was incredible. We also stopped at the Fragonard Perfume Factory, where I snagged a one-of-a-kind souvenir to bring home!
Next was Monaco, where we explored the Monte Carlo Casino area and drove parts of the iconic Grand Prix circuit. It was such a cool moment to see the streets that host the famous race!
Another highlight was strolling Cannes’ Croisette Boulevard, the glitzy promenade where celebs flock during the annual film festival. The day wrapped up in St-Paul-de-Vence, a charming village known for its art galleries and stunning views.
With a maximum of eight people, this tour felt personal and relaxed, and our guide Stephane made it even better with his humor and insights. With hotel pickup, comfy transport, and hundreds of 5-star reviews, I think this tour is 100% worth it!Â
2. Take a walking tour of Old Nice and Castle Hill

Tour Details
Exploring Old Nice on foot is one of the best ways to soak in the city’s vibrant history and culture, and this walking tour made the experience unforgettable! With a local guide leading the way, we got to dive into all of the stories and secrets of this beautiful city.
The tour started at the bustling Cours Saleya market, where we wandered through colorful stalls overflowing with fresh produce, flowers, and local specialties. We even got to try Nice’s specialty food, the pissaladière. It’s a delicious flatbread topped with caramelized onions and olives – it was my first time having it and I loved it!
Next, we strolled through Old Nice’s maze of narrow streets, lined with charming pastel-colored buildings and quaint shops. Along the way, we learned about the history of this lively quarter from our local guide, from its Baroque churches to hidden gems I’d have totally missed on my own!
But the highlight of the tour for me was the climb up to Castle Hill, where panoramic views of the city and the sparkling Mediterranean stole the show. It’s the perfect spot for snapping those Insta-worthy photos!
Whether it’s your first time in Nice or you’ve been before, this tour is an incredible way to experience the city’s charm, history, and breathtaking scenery all in one. If you don’t believe me, just have a look at the 1,000+ 5-star reviews!
3. Taste your way around Nice

Tour Details
As a self-proclaimed foodie, I couldn’t pass up the chance to join this food tour in Nice – and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! This tour was easily one of the highlights of my trip, and it’s perfect if you want to eat like a local while learning about the city’s food scene.
For three hours, we wandered through Nice’s charming streets, stopping at local hidden gems I never would’ve found on my own. And let me tell you, the food was absolutely incredible! We tried a variety of dishes such as socca (a chickpea pancake that’s a local staple), freshly baked pissaladière (a delicious onion tart), and even artisanal macarons!
What made the tour even better was our guide. They didn’t just explain the dishes, we heard the stories behind them and how they’re connected to the region’s culture. It felt less like a tour and more like exploring with a foodie friend who knows all the best spots.
The portions were generous (seriously, don’t eat beforehand!), and the small group size made it feel personal. If you’re looking for a fun and delicious way to experience Nice, this 5-star tour is a must!
4. Escape the city and explore the Provence countryside

Tour Details
Exploring the Provence countryside was an absolute highlight of my trip to Nice, and this small-group day tour made it all the more memorable! With just eight travelers, the experience felt personal, allowing us to truly soak in the charm of each destination.
Our adventure began in Cannes, where we strolled along the glamorous Croisette Boulevard and the Film Festival Palace. Next, we headed to Grasse, where we toured the world-famous Fragonard Perfumery. It was such a treat to learn about the art of perfume-making and choose a unique scent to take home!
Afterward, we visited the medieval hilltop village of Gourdon, which offered some breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. The vistas of the surrounding countryside were also absolutely stunning and made for great photo ops!
We then journeyed through the Loup Gorges, stopping at Tourrettes-sur-Loup, a charming town known for its violet products. Finally, we explored Saint-Paul-de-Vence, a haven for art lovers. There are over 50 art galleries here, so I highly recommend popping into a few during your free time!
Our guide was fantastic, sharing fun facts and giving us plenty of time to explore. From scenic drives to quaint villages, this tour is the perfect way to experience the magic of Provence and the French countryside without any stress!

5. Take a train through the Alps for a day of hiking

Tour Details
Attention hiking lovers! If you’re looking for an active way to explore beyond Nice, this full-day train and hiking tour through the Alps is a fantastic choice! Packed with stunning views and fascinating history, it’s an adventurous way to experience the Baroque Royal Route and the Salt Trade Road.
The day begins with a scenic train ride into the Alps, where you’ll pass charming villages and jaw-dropping mountain vistas. But once you arrive, it’s all about getting those steps in! You’ll explore quaint alpine towns, hike along the historic Salt Trade Road, and visit Baroque churches steeped in history. The mix of culture and nature is what makes this tour so unique!
One of my favorite parts was the peaceful hike through the countryside, surrounded by the crisp mountain air and breathtaking scenery. The walking trails are manageable for most fitness levels, but it is a long walk around 9 miles (15 kilometers), so be prepared for a day full of activity.
It’s worth noting that the itinerary may vary due to maintenance on the train line, so if you want specific up-to-date itinerary details, make sure you reach out to the company in advance. But no matter what, I’m certain the trip will be just as great as when I went. It’s an unforgettable way to experience the Alps!

6. Take a day trip to Monaco and Eze

Tour Details
Did you know Monaco is the world’s second-smallest country? Just a short drive from Nice, this tiny nation is packed with luxury, history, and breathtaking sights. The best way to experience it is on this Monaco and Eze day trip, which combines the charm of Eze with ample time to explore Monaco!
The adventure begins with a drive along the scenic coastline, stopping first in Eze, a charming medieval village perched high above the sea. Wandering its narrow streets and taking in the panoramic views was such a peaceful and unique experience. While there, we also toured the renowned Fragonard Perfume Factory to learn about the art of perfume-making.
Then it’s on to Monaco, where you’ll have the freedom to explore at your own pace. I loved wandering through the old town and seeing the Prince’s Palace, as well as checking out the iconic Monte Carlo Casino. The mix of historic charm and modern luxury is what makes Monaco so special. Walking along the harbor filled with mega-yachts was definitely a highlight for me!
What makes this tour stand out is how much time you get in Monaco. Unlike other tours that feel rushed, this one allows you to fully immerse yourself in everything this iconic destination has to offer. With over 500 glowing 5-star reviews, it’s clear this tour is a favorite – and after doing it myself, I can see why!
7. Learn how to make perfume

Tour Details
France is often referred to as the perfume capital of the world and is home to some of the most renowned perfume producers. At this unique workshop, you’ll not only learn about the fascinating art of French perfumery but also get to create your very own custom scent – a one-of-a-kind keepsake to take home!
The workshop kicks off with a brief introduction to the perfume-making process at Molinard, a legendary name in French perfumery. Guided by an expert perfumer, I got to explore an array of fragrance options, from floral and citrusy notes to rich and woody bases. Selecting and blending the scents to craft something uniquely mine was such a fun and creative experience.
One of the coolest parts? My custom perfume was assigned its own number and registered in their system. This means I can reorder my personal fragrance anytime – even after I’m back home!
Whether you’re a perfume enthusiast or just looking for a memorable hands-on experience, this workshop is a must-do. It’s a great way to immerse yourself in the world of French culture and create a special souvenir you won’t find anywhere else. I left with my own bottle of perfume and a newfound appreciation for this timeless art!

8. Tour Nice’s organic vineyards on an e-bike

Tour Details
For wine lovers and adventure seekers alike, this organic vineyard e-bike tour combines the best of both worlds! Riding along the Mediterranean coast to a historical vineyard was an unforgettable way to learn about the region’s winemaking heritage while enjoying fresh air and stunning views.
The tour kicks off with a quick intro to your electric bike (don’t worry, the e-bike does most of the hard work!), followed by a scenic ride out of the city. Pedaling along the sparkling coastline and through quiet country roads, you’ll pass charming villages and gorgeous vineyards.
The best part? These bikes make the hills feel like a breeze, so even beginners can relax and enjoy the experience!
The highlight for me was visiting the organic vineyard, where we got a behind-the-scenes look at the winemaking process. Our guide shared fascinating insights into organic farming and local grape varieties, making it as informative as it was fun. And, of course, we ended with a wine tasting! Sipping on delicious, eco-friendly wines while overlooking the vineyards was the perfect reward for our efforts.
This small-group tour is capped at 10 people, ensuring a personalized experience. With everything included – from e-bike rental to wine tasting – this adventure is the perfect way to combine your love of wine with an active day out in the French Riviera countryside!
9. Drive a Scoot Coupe along the French Riviera

Tour Details
Ever heard of a Scoot Coupe? Also known as a NiceCar, this adorable two-seater vehicle is part scooter, part tiny car, and completely unforgettable! With one person driving and the other enjoying the ride, this half-day tour is an ideal activity for couples or friends wanting to explore the French Riviera in a unique way.
This guided tour starts in Nice, where you’ll hop into your brightly colored Scoot Coupe and follow your guide through a fun itinerary. The route takes you along the famous Promenade des Anglais and into the hills for incredible views over the sparkling Mediterranean. Along the way, you’ll visit charming spots like Mont Boron and the picturesque village of Villefranche-sur-Mer.
The open design of the Scoot Coupe makes the journey extra special – you’ll feel immersed in the scenery as you cruise along the coastline and through historic streets. One of my favorite parts was stopping at panoramic viewpoints that I wouldn’t have found on my own.
This tour is easy, fun, and unlike anything else you’ll do in Nice. If you’re after a day of laughter, amazing sights, and a little adventure, this is one experience you won’t want to miss – just look at all of the 5-star reviews!
10. Learn how to cook French Mediterranean food

Tour Details
For food lovers, this Mediterranean cooking class is a deliciously immersive experience you can’t miss in Nice! Not only do you learn to prepare iconic dishes, but you also enjoy them with breathtaking views of Nice as your backdrop.
The experience begins with a warm welcome from your host at a gorgeous villa overlooking the city. The small group size makes it feel personal and relaxed, and our instructor was fantastic – knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly passionate about Mediterranean cuisine!
We learned to make a 3-course meal starting with a homemade white pizza drizzled with truffle oil, followed by ravioli stuffed with butternut squash – a dish I can’t wait to recreate at home!
For dessert, we made a delicious tiramisu with fresh, seasonal fruits from the host’s garden. And to top it all off, we enjoyed a homemade liqueur made by our host!
But the real highlight of the evening was sitting down to enjoy our creations. We shared stories, laughed endlessly, and soaked in the gorgeous views of the Côte d’Azur.
This isn’t just a cooking class – it’s an evening filled with delicious food, culture, and unforgettable memories. I can’t recommend it enough!

Renting a Car in France

France is a dream to explore by car—think lavender fields in Provence, medieval villages in the Dordogne, and coastal drives along the Côte d’Azur. While the train network is excellent, having your own wheels lets you uncover those hidden gems at your own pace. Plus, French drivers are generally courteous, making road tripping here a breeze!
We always book with Discover Cars and can’t recommend them enough. It’s super easy to compare prices, check company ratings, find automatic cars (which can be tricky in Europe!), and add affordable full coverage insurance. If you want a full breakdown, check out our Discover Cars review here.

What’s an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card. Instead of buying a little plastic chip and swapping it into your phone, you just download it. It connects your phone to a local network in whatever country you’re visiting — no stores, no waiting, and no fiddling with tiny cards.
In simple terms, it’s the easiest way to get data and stay connected while traveling.
We’ve tested a bunch of eSIMs over the years, and after a few frustrating experiences, we’ve found our favorite — Airalo. It’s fast, reliable, and incredibly easy to use. You can set it up in minutes (even my mom managed it solo on her first try!), and the prices are some of the best out there.
