Where to Find the Best Wadi Rum Camps 

Wadi Rum is a protected region in Jordan, where you can find traditional Bedouin camps scattered across the desert, almost like little camp colonies. • Wadi Rum Village – Most shops and restaurants can be found in this small, modern area of around 2,000 people, which also offers accommodation for those who don’t like sleeping in camps. Memories Aicha Luxury Camp offers a blend of traditional style and modern comfort in one of the larger camps, with around 40 tents and bubble domes.

The first stop in Wadi Rum is the Visitor’s Center, the official entrance to the protected area. This is where everyone arrives to check in, meet their camp pickup, get the information they need, or just sit down at the restaurant for a bit. If you haven’t booked a desert tour in advance, you can easily arrange one here. 

As a visitor, you’re not allowed to drive into the protected area on your own, so all transport is handled by local Bedouin drivers. From here, most travelers are taken to Wadi Rum Village, where you meet your guide or transfer to your camp vehicle.

Right by the Visitor’s Center, you’ll spot the Seven Pillars of Wisdom, a massive rock formation you can see as soon as you arrive. Inside, the Wadi Rum Museum gives a bit of background on the area and is worth a quick look. 

There are quite a few camps within a 15-minute drive or so, which makes this area a good base for exploring the Wadi Rum protected area without driving deep into it. A handful of options here sit just outside the protected zone, but the experience is still very similar.

Wadi Rum Bubble Luxotel – $$$ 

Wadi Rum Bubble Luxotel is a luxury glamping resort, just outside the protected area, yet only a 20-minute drive from the main tourist hubs. The ride can be a bit bumpy, but it feels otherworldly. It’s like you’re driving on Mars, nothing around but open desert. What sets it apart from the rest of the camps in Wadi Rum is the bubble-shaped domes with full 360-degree views. 

At night, lying in bed and watching the stars through the clear dome is something you don’t forget. Most suites also come with a hot tub on the balcony. The stargazing tours are worth it, with astronomers using telescopes and lasers to point out constellations.

Meals are served in a central restaurant bubble, and evenings often end around a campfire with tea and shisha. Prices usually range between $280 and $395 USD per night, including breakfast and dinner.

SunCity Camp is another high-end glamping spot set about 12 km (7.6 mi) from Wadi Rum Village. Getting there is easier than most, as it’s only about 1 km (0.6 mi) from a paved road. Each “UFO” suite is made up of two connected pods, one for the bedroom and one for the bathroom. They’re surprisingly spacious, with all the comforts you need, like plush bedding, a kettle, slippers, and WiFi. The camp even provides traditional bishts (long robes) to keep you warm on colder nights (you’ll definitely need one in January).

Najd Luxury Camp – $$

Najd Luxury Camp is a great mid-range option in the heart of Wadi Rum, about 10 km (roughly 6.2 miles) from the Visitor Center. They do, however, offer free transfers to and from a meeting point in Wadi Rum village, which makes logistics easier. What we like most about this place is that you get that 5-star experience, but with just five bubble tents, it stays quiet and personal.

Still, you can’t get bored here! There’s plenty to do if you like desert sports, including sandboarding and dune skiing. Inside, the tents are well equipped with kitchenettes and even outdoor fireplaces for those cool desert nights. 

This camp also works well for families, with a small play area, kids’ meals, and babysitting options. Prices start at around $70 USD per night, which, considering everything included, feels like a bargain.

Adell Wadi Rum Camp Bubble – $$  

Adel Wadi Rum Camp Bubble is just outside the protected area, located about 32 km (around 20 miles) from the Wadi Rum Visitor Center and about 6.7 km (4 miles) from the Deeseh Knowledge Station. The camp is made up of 10 luxury-style tents with modern amenities and private balconies.

What really stands out here is the dining. Breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner include a variety of Jordanian specialties served in the dining tent. High tea around the campfire is the real treat, with traditional Bedouin tea brewed over an open fire.

Food is another highlight, with dishes like hummus, goat cheese sambusak, and other local options, many made with organic ingredients grown by the owners. During the day, you can try activities like sandboarding or even a zipline, while evenings are best spent on a jeep trip into the desert to watch the stars.

Rooms are comfortable and spacious, with memory foam beds and Egyptian cotton sheets, so restful nights are guaranteed. Wadi Rum Village

Wadi Rum Village is perfectly positioned between Jebel Rum and Jebel Um Ashreen, the second and third tallest peaks in the valley, and acts as the main local hub in the desert. It’s home to around 2,000 people across a very small area (about a square kilometer/a little under 0.4 square miles). The village was built in the 1970s and is only about a 10-minute drive from the Visitor Center, closer to the heart of the protected area, which is why most tours and camp transfers pass through here.

This is where you’ll find the basics: a small clinic, a few cafes, grocery shops, and simple restaurants, but don’t expect much beyond that (it’s best to stock up before arriving, like we did). There are no ATMs or banks, so it’s a good idea to bring enough cash, as the nearest ATM is about 20 km (about 12 mi) away in Deesa. You won’t find any petrol stations either, so plan ahead if you’re driving.

That said, there’s not much going on here, and honestly, that’s kind of the point. Most people stay in camps nearby anyway, so the village ends up being more of a quick stop than a destination.

Memories Aicha Luxury Camp – $$$ 

Memories Aicha Luxury Camp is one of our favorite glamping spots, just a 10-minute drive from the Wadi Rum Visitors Center. It’s one of the larger camps, with around 40 luxury tents, and it looks like a little Mars Colony. For the best experience, we suggest booking one of the panoramic domes rather than the standard tents. 

The main restaurant sits inside the largest dome, and it’s worth arriving just before 6 pm to watch the Bedouin BBQ being uncovered from the sand. If you want to explore, there’s a viewpoint right next to the camp, about a 15-minute climb, just don’t forget your water! 

At night, the whole place lights up and instantly feels romantic and slightly surreal. We saw plenty of couples, but this place also works well for families, with spacious rooms and child-friendly food. Expect to pay around $225 USD per night.

Star rum – $$

Star rum is a fantastic mid-range choice that gives you a bit more freedom. It’s a licensed Bedouin-style camp with solar power, and the tents come with extras like hot tubs, spa baths, saunas, and even a stovetop and fridge, so you’re not tied to the meals served in the restaurant.

There’s also a small minimarket if you want to grab a few things and cook for yourself, which is ideal for longer stays. Room service is an option too, but what stands out are the fitness classes, not something you expect in the desert. The camp is set right at the base of a mountain, so the views are even more memorable.

Evenings tend to fall into a rhythm here. After a long day of sandboarding or camel riding, you eat, then make your way to the bar, where music plays until around 10 PM, before things slowly quiet down around the campfire.
