Day 1

We couldn’t have asked for a better intro to Nashville than this hop-on hop-off trolley tour. With 13 designated stops and over 100 points of interest along the way, it gives you a solid overview of the city while still leaving room to explore at your own pace. The trolley kicks off at 9 am and runs every 30 minutes, so you’re never waiting long to hop back on.

As we cruised through spots like Lower Broadway, Music Row, and The Gulch, the live onboard commentary filled in all the local history and quirky facts. It’s tempting to want to stop at every location, but unless you’re planning to ride all day, we recommend being selective. We chose a handful of highlights and saved the Country Music Hall of Fame for another time, so we could really dig into it later.

Our favorite stop? Marathon Village. Once an auto factory, it’s now a hub for unique shops, artisan distilleries, and the quirky Tennessee Legend tasting room—definitely worth hopping off for.

You’ll probably spend about 90 minutes total on the trolley, but we recommend stretching this into a full-day adventure, wrapping up by 3:00 pm before some attractions start to close. Just a short walk from one of the trolley stops, this Ryman Auditorium tour is a must, whether or not you’re a die-hard country music fan. Known as “the Mother Church of Country Music,” this iconic venue has hosted legends from Elvis Presley to Dolly Parton, and even rockers like the Foo Fighters and Joan Jett.

This is a self-guided tour, so you can explore at your own pace. We started with the immersive “Soul of Nashville” theater experience, complete with holograms, archival footage, and special effects that totally set the mood. 

From there, we wandered through exhibits showcasing 125+ years of history, narrated by stars like Sheryl Crow and Vince Gill. Artifacts like Johnny Cash’s guitar and original stage outfits bring the stories to life. But nothing topped standing on the legendary stage itself—it gave us chills!

Centennial Park/Parthenon

One of the most unexpected sights in Nashville is a full-scale replica of the Parthenon from Athens—yep, columns and all! We hopped off the trolley at Centennial Park and couldn’t believe how impressive it was in person. It’s the only exact replica in the world, complete with a towering 42-foot (12-meter) statue of Athena inside.

The park is a relaxing place to stretch your legs, with walking paths, a peaceful lake, and plenty of space to unwind before heading into the Parthenon. Admission is just a few bucks, and it includes access to an art museum tucked inside the base—bonus! You can buy tickets when you arrive.

This stop doesn’t require a ton of time, but it’s definitely one of the most photogenic (and surprising) attractions in Nashville.

Nashville Farmers Market

When lunchtime hits, hop off at the Nashville Farmers’ Market—it’s the perfect mid-day break. With dozens of local vendors inside the Market House, you’ll find everything from barbecue and tacos to vegan soul food and fresh-pressed juices. We each grabbed something different and sat outside to soak in the sunshine.

Before or after lunch, take a short stroll through Victory Park, just next door. You’ll get a great view of the Tennessee State Capitol, perched up on the hill. You can even walk up to it if you’re feeling ambitious. It’s one of the oldest working capitols in the U.S. and worth a quick look.

Afternoon – Hatch Show Print

Wrap up your first day in Nashville with a hands-on dose of history at Hatch Show Print—just a short walk from where you’ll finish your trolley tour. This iconic print shop has been producing show posters since 1879, using traditional wood block printing techniques that are still in action today.

We arrived around 3:30 pm, which gave us enough time for their 1-hour guided tour before they closed at 5:30 pm. Even if you’re not into printing or country music, trust us—this place is fascinating. The tour dives into the history of the shop, showcases original presses and artwork, and even lets you try your hand at printing your own poster. It’s trickier than it looks, but super satisfying.

Dinner – Blanco Cocina + Cantina

After a full day of sightseeing and hands-on fun, head toward Broadway and fuel up with dinner at Blanco Cocina + Cantina. This lively spot dishes up bold Mexican flavors—think flavorful street tacos, creamy queso, and some of the best drinks we had in Nashville. Whether you’re in the mood for grilled shrimp tacos or a spicy chicken burrito, there’s something for every craving here.

The vibe is bright and upbeat, and it’s just steps away from all the live music action on Broadway. It’s a great spot to recharge before heading out to explore the honky-tonks. Try the jalapeño and pineapple margarita—it was our favorite!

Evening – Honky Tonk Highway

No trip to Nashville is complete without a night out on Broadway Street, better known as the Honky Tonk Highway. After dinner, stroll right into the heart of the city’s legendary music scene. These multi-level bars—called honky tonks—are packed with live music, neon lights, and crowds dancing from floor to floor.

Start with a visit to Tootsies Orchid Lounge, a Nashville icon where legends once played, then head next door to Robert’s Western World for classic country vibes and fried bologna sandwiches (yes, really). The Stage on Broadway is another must—this place is huge, with live bands rocking every level.

Wandering the strip is half the fun, but if you need a break from the crowds, turn down one of the side streets. You’ll find smaller venues with a more relaxed, local feel and just as much talent. Come ready to dance, sing along, and soak in the electric Nashville energy!

Day 2

Breakfast – The Pancake Pantry

Start your second day in Nashville with a classic Southern breakfast at The Pancake Pantry, a local favorite that’s been serving stacks since 1961. They open bright and early at 6 am, which makes it a perfect first stop, especially if you’re hoping to beat the crowds.

From fluffy buttermilk pancakes to sweet potato flapjacks and bacon-stuffed creations, the menu is indulgent in the best way. Even better? It’s just a 4-minute walk from here to the Country Music Hall of Fame, so you can fuel up and head straight to your next iconic Nashville experience.

Morning – Visit the Country Music Hall of Fame

You can’t visit Nashville without diving into its country music roots, and this combo tour is the perfect way to do it. Starting around 9 am (exact time confirmed at booking), you’ll get admission to the Country Music Hall of Fame, plus a guided tour of RCA Studio B, the legendary recording studio where artists like Elvis, Dolly Parton, and Roy Orbison laid down their biggest hits.

We met our guide, Debbie, at the studio after a quick shuttle ride from the museum, and she was an absolute gem, sharing stories, trivia, and insights that brought the place to life. We got to see Elvis’s favorite Steinway piano and learned he recorded over 240 songs in that very room!

Back at the Hall of Fame, we explored at our own pace through interactive exhibits, original costumes, vintage instruments, and even Elvis’s custom Cadillac. From the earliest roots of country music to modern legends, it was all here, and surprisingly captivating, even if you’re not a die-hard fan.

Lunch – Hattie B’s Hot Chicken

After soaking up all that music history, it’s time to dig into a true Nashville staple—Hattie B’s Hot Chicken. The original location is just a 4-minute drive from RCA Studio B, making it an easy and iconic stop for lunch.

This place is famous for its spicy, crispy chicken and laid-back Southern vibes. You can choose your heat level, from “Southern” (no heat) all the way up to “Shut the Cluck Up!”—and trust us, that last one isn’t for the faint of heart. Pair your chicken with creamy pimento mac and cheese or crinkle-cut fries, and you’ve got yourself the full experience.

Afternoon – Visit the Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery

Ready for a dose of Southern history, stately architecture, and a splash of wine? This Belle Meade Mansion tour checks all those boxes and more. 

This guided experience takes you through one of Nashville’s most storied estates, just a 20-minute drive from downtown, and offers a unique blend of Civil War history and post-tour relaxation. We recommend booking the 2 or 2:30 pm tour, which gives you plenty of time to explore the grounds afterward.

This 45-minute guided tour of the 1853-built Greek Revival mansion dives deep into the Civil War era, including its use as a military headquarters during the Battle of Nashville. One of the most surreal moments was seeing actual bullet holes still lodged in the mansion’s massive front columns. 

Our guide was a brilliant storyteller who brought the home’s layered history to life in every room. She blended humor, detail, and emotion in a way that made even the most complex parts of the past feel personal and unforgettable.

After the tour, you can wander the gardens, visit the horse farm, and enjoy a complimentary tasting at the elegant on-site winery. There’s also a smokehouse if you’re in the mood for a bite!

Dinner – The Gulch

After returning to the city, head to The Gulch, one of Nashville’s trendiest neighborhoods, known for its mix of upscale restaurants, boutique shopping, and sleek city vibes. If you have a little time before dinner, take a walk around and check out some of the local shops or grab a quick photo at the famous wings mural nearby.

For dinner, we chose Adele’s Nashville, a chic spot with a warm, open atmosphere and a seasonal, farm-to-table menu. Everything we ordered, from the roasted chicken to the cauliflower salad, was flavorful and fresh. The drinks were also top-notch, and the service was just as impressive.

Evening – Midtown Nashville

If you’re up for more exploring after dinner, head to Midtown Nashville, a lively nightlife district with a totally different feel from the Broadway scene. It’s a little more local, a little less touristy, but still packed with energy, music, and great bars.

Take a stroll down Music Row, where many of Nashville’s top recording studios are tucked away. You won’t see live performances here, but it’s cool to walk through the epicenter of the music industry. For live music, bars like Losers Bar are always buzzing.

Want something more colorful and bold? Swing over to Church Street, home to Nashville’s LGBTQ+ nightlife scene. From high-energy drag shows to dance clubs and cozy bars, there’s something for everyone here.

Day 3

Morning – Taste your way around Nashville

We’ve learned the hard way that wandering around a new city hungry and overwhelmed by choices rarely leads to a great meal. That’s why we booked this East Nashville food tour, and it ended up being one of the best things we did in Nashville.

You get to skip the guesswork and dive straight into some of the city’s best bites, all while exploring one of its most creative, mural-filled neighborhoods. The tour kicks off at 11 am and wraps up around 2:30 pm, giving you just enough time to digest before heading to the Grand Ole Opry. If the morning slot isn’t available, you can always book the afternoon tour and rearrange your day a bit.

Our guide, Josh, made the whole experience feel like a fun food crawl with friends. We tried caramel-glazed donuts, crispy crustburgers, juicy pulled pork, and of course, hot chicken that brought the heat. Every stop felt intentional and seriously tasty!

What made this tour even better was how much we learned about the neighborhood itself. Josh shared fun stories about the local food scene and pointed out hidden murals and local landmarks we never would’ve found on our own.

Afternoon – Go backstage at the famous Grand Ole Opry

After filling up on East Nashville’s best bites, it’s time to dive into another Nashville institution: the Grand Ole Opry. The world-famous venue is a cornerstone of country music history, and this backstage tour offers a rare glimpse behind the curtain. 

We recommend booking the 3:00 pm slot, and don’t be late! You may need to duck out of your food tour a few minutes early to make it on time, but it’s absolutely worth it.

The experience kicks off in the immersive Circle Room theater, where a short film narrated by Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood sets the stage with stories, highlights, and heartfelt tributes. From there, you’ll head backstage with a guide—ours was Bob, whose enthusiasm for the Opry was contagious.

We explored dressing rooms, the green room, and those backstage hallways where stars like Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash once stood. But the true highlight? Standing in the iconic wooden circle on the Opry stage, where generations of musicians have performed. It’s surprisingly moving, even if you’re not a lifelong country fan.

The tour only takes about an hour, but it leaves a lasting impression. It’s a quick and easy addition to your afternoon, and honestly, no trip to Nashville feels complete without it.

Evening – Johnny Cash Museum and Goo Goo Clusters

To wrap up your last evening in Nashville, there are a couple more can’t-miss stops right off Broadway, and conveniently, they’re located right across the street from each other. If you’re already nearby or heading back downtown after the Grand Ole Opry tour, it’s an easy add to your itinerary before dinner or one final honky tonk night.

Johnny Cash Museum

Even if you’re not a die-hard fan, the Johnny Cash Museum is worth a visit. It’s small but packed with memorabilia that covers every chapter of his life, from his early days in Arkansas to his legendary Folsom Prison performance and beyond. 

You’ll see stage outfits, instruments, handwritten lyrics, and even personal letters that offer a deeper look at the Man in Black. The museum is self-guided, takes about an hour to explore at your own pace, and is open daily until 7 pm. Just make sure to arrive with enough time to enjoy it fully.

Goo Goo Clusters

Right across the street, make a sweet stop at the Goo Goo Chocolate Co., home to Nashville’s Goo Goo Clusters. You can pick up pre-made treats, build your own custom cluster at the design station, or just pop in for a sample. 

Goo Goo Clusters were actually invented in Nashville in 1912, making them the first combination candy bar ever sold in the U.S. It’s a fun (and tasty) piece of local history, especially if you’re craving something sweet to end the day.

Dinner – Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint

To end your Nashville adventure the right way, head to Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint, a local favorite and one of the best places in town for authentic Tennessee-style BBQ. Located just a short walk from Broadway, it’s an ideal spot to grab a laid-back, satisfying meal after a day of sightseeing and sweets.

Martin’s is known for its whole-hog barbecue, smoked low and slow every day, and their pulled pork, brisket, and ribs are melt-in-your-mouth good. The sides are no afterthought either! We couldn’t get enough of the mac and cheese, baked beans, and cornbread. 

The vibe is casual and fun, with picnic tables, cold drinks, and a spacious upstairs patio that’s great when the weather’s nice—the perfect final stop to reflect on an unforgettable three days in Music City!

Where to Stay in Nashville, Tennessee

We were surprised to find out Nashville is a rather expensive place to stay! This is a popular travel destination for a reason, so hotel prices tend to add up, especially during the busy months. If you book your stay early, you won’t have a problem finding a good price, and there are plenty of options in the city. Here are my top recommendations for a luxury, mid-range, and budget stay:

Luxury – $$$

When I say luxury, I mean The Hermitage Hotel! Located in downtown Nashville, this 5-star hotel provides attention to every detail so you have a relaxing stay. They offer rooms for two or four people, or suite-style rooms, as well as two onsite restaurants and trendy bars. It’s within walking distance to the popular Broadway Street, but far enough away to get out of the busy areas.

Mid-range – $$

Holiday Inn & Suites is a great option for those with a moderate budget. I love that they provide a lot of room options, whether you want a standard queen room or upgrade to a king suite with a city view, without breaking the budget! It’s located near Nashville’s top sights, like the Johnny Cash Museum and Bridgestone Arena, or you can stay at the hotel and enjoy the outdoor pool.

Budget – $

For a budget stay that is still clean, comfortable, and central, the Comfort Inn Downtown Nashville is your best bet! These rooms are basic, but they provide everything you need for a comfortable stay. It’s within walking distance to the Country Music Hall of Fame and other downtown sights, so the convenience is worth it!
