Jackson Hole is one of those places where having a rental car makes all the difference. The valley is wide and open, with distances between trailheads, ranches, and tour meeting points often stretching 20–45 minutes. Since there’s no public transportation to rely on, driving yourself is the most convenient way to get around. Many tours do include pick-up options, but to keep things flexible, we highly recommend renting a car so you can explore at your own pace.
Over three days, this itinerary balances the very best of Jackson Hole. You’ll spend time hiking beneath the jagged peaks of the Tetons, enjoying thrilling outdoor adventures on land and water, and capping each day with great food and a lively town atmosphere. It’s the kind of trip that shows off the rugged beauty of Wyoming while still giving you plenty of time to soak it all in.
Day 1: Kick things off with a hike at Taggart Lake before spotting moose, bison, and more on a Grand Teton sunset wildlife safari.

Day 1
Breakfast – Pearl Street Bagels
Before heading into the mountains, fuel up with a quick breakfast at Pearl Street Bagels in downtown Jackson. This local favorite has been serving up fresh bagels since the early 1990s, and it’s the perfect spot to grab something hearty without slowing down your morning plans.
We loved their smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, but you’ll also find plenty of classics, plus good coffee to get you going. Best of all, they open at 7 am, which makes it easy to grab breakfast before hitting the trail.
Morning – Go hiking at Taggart Lake
Once you’ve fueled up, make the short 25-minute drive north into Grand Teton National Park for a scenic hike at Taggart Lake. This 3.5-mile (6-kilometer) loop is one of the park’s most popular trails, and it’s easy to see why. The path winds through groves of aspen and pine before opening onto meadows and, finally, the sparkling shoreline of Taggart Lake with the Teton peaks rising dramatically behind it.
The trail is flat and accessible for all hiking levels, usually taking about 1.5 hours to complete, though you’ll probably want extra time to sit by the water or snap photos of the views. We found mornings here especially peaceful, with crisp mountain air, birdsong echoing through the forest, and the occasional mule deer grazing nearby. On calm days, the lake mirrors the mountains perfectly, making it one of the most photogenic spots in the park.
Parking fills quickly, so arriving early is a good idea. And if you’re still up for more walking afterward, several longer trails branch off from this area, giving you the flexibility to extend your adventure before heading back toward Jackson.
Optional Stop: Mormon Row
On your way back from Taggart Lake, it’s worth detouring to Mormon Row, just a 12-minute drive from the trailhead. This stretch of historic homesteads dates back to the late 1800s, when Mormon settlers built simple wooden barns and homes against the stunning backdrop of the Tetons. What we liked most about Mormon Row is how timeless it feels, the wide open plains, the quiet atmosphere, and the way the barns frame the mountains in the distance. It’s an easy pull-off that doesn’t take long to visit, but it leaves a lasting impression!
Lunch – Snake River Brewing
After a morning on the trails, nothing hits the spot quite like a craft beer and a hearty meal, and Snake River Brewing delivers both. This popular brewpub has a laid-back, welcoming vibe with a menu full of burgers, wood-fired pizzas, and hearty pub fare, perfect for refueling after your hike. Their rotating selection of locally brewed beers is a highlight, and we loved being able to sample a flight to find a favorite.
The two-story space has great views of the surrounding mountains, and if the weather’s nice, the outdoor patio is one of the best spots in town to kick back and relax. It’s casual and lively, making it a great place to recharge before easing into your afternoon in Jackson.
Afternoon – Stroll through Jackson Hole
If you have a little time left in the afternoon, take a relaxed stroll through downtown Jackson. The compact streets are filled with boutique shops, art galleries, and cafés, all framed by the rugged peaks that surround the town. Don’t miss the famous antler arches in the town square; they’re one of the most photographed landmarks in Jackson and a fun spot for a quick photo.
This is also a great window to slow down and enjoy the town’s atmosphere, whether that’s browsing for souvenirs, people-watching in the square, or grabbing a coffee before your evening tour. If you’d prefer, you can also head back to your hotel for a rest and freshen up before the night’s adventure.
Evening – Spot wildlife on a Grand Teton sunset safari
After spending some time in town, get ready for this small-group Grand Teton wildlife safari timed perfectly with sunset. Scheduling is flexible and confirmed with the local provider, but we recommend aiming for 4:30 pm so you’ll finish around 8:30—just in time for dinner.
Riding in an open-air safari vehicle with binoculars in hand, we covered everything from dusty backroads to scenic highways as the wildlife came to life at golden hour. In colder months, they swap the open-air vehicle for a cozy enclosed one, so you’ll stay warm no matter the season.
We saw elk grazing in the distance, bald eagles soaring overhead, and even a black bear wandering across the road just feet from our vehicle. Our guide helped us spot animals we never would’ve noticed on our own, like a camouflaged mule deer tucked behind the trees and a hawk perched way up high. It felt like we were part of a real-life nature documentary!
But our favorite part was the sunset. The whole valley glowed in warm light that made the Tetons look like they were on fire!
There’s also a sunrise option if you’re up for an early start. Morning light brings out different wildlife, and the calm, quiet roads make it easier to spot them on the move. But no matter which option you choose, you’re guaranteed some of the best views in Jackson Hole!

Dinner – Bin22
After your safari, head back into town for dinner at Bin22, a cozy bar and restaurant just a 7-minute walk (or quick 2-minute drive) from where the tour wraps up. The space feels intimate and lively, with a menu of small plates designed for sharing, including house-made pastas, artisan cheeses, and inventive seasonal dishes.
We loved how the staff were happy to recommend pairings from their excellent wine list, which features bottles from around the world as well as local selections. Since Bin22 stays open until 10 pm, you won’t need to rush if your evening tour runs a little late. It’s the perfect way to wind down your first day in Jackson Hole with great food, a glass of red, and plenty to talk about from the day’s adventures.
Day 2
Morning – Enjoy Teton views on a horseback ride
After a night of good food in town, day two starts with a true Wyoming experience—this 2-hour horseback ride through the Tetons! We recommend booking the 9 am option, and with the ranch sitting about 45 minutes from Jackson, it’s best to leave around 7:45 am to give yourself plenty of time to check in and get settled.
There’s something about experiencing Wyoming on horseback that just feels right. After days of driving and hiking on foot, this horseback riding tour through Bridger-Teton National Forest gives you the chance to slow down, soak up the views, and tap into your inner cowboy.
We rode through Buffalo Valley and into groves of aspen trees with sweeping views of the Grand Teton rising behind us. The horses were steady, gentle, and clearly well cared for.
