After a few visits, we’ve crafted this 5-day Curaçao itinerary to help you make the most of your trip without ever feeling rushed. It’s the perfect mix of adventure, beach time, and local culture—with plenty of amazing meals and sunset views along the way. Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, this itinerary will help you experience the very best of the island!

Itinerary Overview

While the island is relatively small, it’s packed with hidden beaches, historic sites, and adventure-worthy landscapes. To really experience it all, you’ll definitely want to rent a car. Public transportation is super limited, and having wheels gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace (and trust me, you’ll want to take a few detours!).

Day 2

Full day – Take a catamaran cruise to Klein Curacao

If you’re going to splurge on one unforgettable day in Curaçao, let it be this full-day catamaran cruise to Klein Curaçao—a tiny, uninhabited island that looks like it was plucked straight out of a travel magazine.

The tour kicks off at 8 am from Caracas Bay and takes about 1.5 hours to reach the island by boat. I’m not going to lie—the ride can be a bit bumpy depending on the weather, so if you get seasick, definitely pop a motion sickness pill before setting sail. That said, the crew is amazing and made the ride feel more like a party than a chore!

Once you arrive, you’re met with powdery white sand, impossibly clear turquoise water, and absolutely zero crowds. I spent most of my time snorkeling (and even spotted a sea turtle!), but there’s also an old shipwreck and a dramatic, abandoned lighthouse if you feel like stretching your legs for some exploring.

A freshly grilled BBQ lunch is served right on the beach, and yes—it comes with an open bar. The crew kept the drinks flowing and the vibes high all afternoon.

And trust me, Sal The Kitchen is the perfect spot to end your day. I had the catch of the day, and it was melt-in-your-mouth good, but I’ve also heard amazing things about their cornish hen and fried goat cheese starter. The atmosphere here is cozy but elevated—ideal for a relaxed yet special night out. Whether you’re dining on their open-air terrace or inside their warmly lit space, it’s got just the right mix of ambiance and flavor.

Pro tip: Make a reservation here in advance, especially if you’re visiting on the weekend. This place is popular with both locals and tourists, and once you taste the food, you’ll see why!

Evening – Cascada Rooftop Bar

If you’ve still got a little energy after dinner, head up to Cascada Rooftop Bar to end the night on a high note—literally. This trendy rooftop spot has one of the best views in Willemstad and a super fun nighttime vibe that kicks off right around sunset.

We made it just in time to watch the sky turn gold and pink over the city, drink in hand. The atmosphere here is lively without being over the top—think good music, cozy lounge seating, and a great crowd. They’ve got a solid drink menu with all the classics plus a few local twists (try the passionfruit flavor!), and some light bites if you’re still a little snacky after dinner.

Whether you’re in the mood to sit back and enjoy the view or dance under the stars as the DJ gets going later in the evening, Cascada is a great way to wrap up your second day in Curaçao.

Day 3

Morning/afternoon – Explore the West Coast beaches

It’s time for a little solo adventure! Today you’ll be exploring the west coast of Curaçao—home to some of the island’s most stunning and less crowded beaches. So hop in your rental car, cue up your road trip playlist, and hit the road for a day of beach hopping and snorkeling.

We recommend picking up snorkel gear from your hotel or a local dive shop so you’re ready to dive in wherever the day takes you. There are tons of beaches to choose from out west, but don’t feel pressured to squeeze in too many. Pick one or two and take your time soaking it all in.

Stop 1: Grote Knip & Klein Knip Beaches

About an hour from Willemstad, these two neighboring beaches are absolute stunners. Grote Knip is famous for its bright blue water and cliffside views—it’s a favorite with both locals and visitors. If it feels a little busy, head over to Klein Knip, a smaller, quieter option just down the road. Either way, plan to spend a few relaxing hours here.

Stop 2: Playa Kalki

Just six minutes north is Playa Kalki, a snorkeler’s dream. Its coral reef is nicknamed “Alice in Wonderland” thanks to the whimsical, mushroom-shaped coral formations. There’s a dive shop right on-site if you want to rent gear or even book a scuba session in advance. Bonus: there are some great casual spots to grab lunch nearby.

Stop 3: Playa Lagun

Fifteen minutes from Playa Kalki, Playa Lagun is a serene little cove that feels extra remote. It’s great for spotting fish and sea turtles close to shore, and the calm water makes it perfect for a lazy snorkel or float session.

Stop 4: Daaibooi Beach

If you’ve got time and energy left, end your afternoon at Daaibooi Beach, about 25 minutes back toward Willemstad. It’s a favorite for its peaceful vibes, spacious beach, and excellent snorkeling. Plus, there’s a snack bar for a quick cold drink or bite before heading back.

Evening – Happy hour sunset cruise

After a full day of beach hopping, there’s no better way to wind down than with a sunset sail, especially one that comes with bottomless drinks!

This sunset cruise departs at 5 pm and lasts about 2.5 hours, giving you plenty of time to soak in those golden hour views as you glide along the Curaçao coastline. The vibes on board are laid-back and fun, with an open bar (yes, happy hour is included!) and music playing in the background as the sun dips below the horizon.

We found it to be the perfect mix of relaxing and festive—some people were lounging quietly with drinks, while others were snapping sunset selfies or chatting with the friendly crew. The boat never felt overcrowded, and the open-air seating made it easy to snag a good view no matter where you sat.

If you’re traveling with a partner, this is a romantic way to cap off the day. If you’re solo or with friends, it’s still a blast. Just don’t forget your camera. The colors over the water are seriously next-level!

Dinner – Grand Café ‘Gouverneur De Rouville’

After your sunset cruise wraps up around 7:30 pm, head back into downtown Willemstad for dinner at one of the city’s most iconic restaurants: Grand Café ‘Gouverneur De Rouville’. It’s about a 20-minute drive from the dock, but since you’ll likely be heading back toward town anyway, it makes for a perfect and convenient dinner stop.

This spot is all about ambience—you’ll dine on a gorgeous terrace overlooking the harbor, with the colorful skyline lighting up the night just across the water. The views alone are worth it, but luckily, the food is just as impressive!

The menu features a mix of Caribbean and international dishes with a refined touch. I recommend trying the Keshi Yena (a local specialty made with cheese-stuffed chicken) or the fresh catch of the day. They also have great vegetarian options and delicious drinks if you feel like keeping the happy hour vibe going.

Day 4

Morning – Explore the East Coast on an ATV

Today you’re trading the beach for a bit of adrenaline! This 3-hour ATV tour kicks off at 9 am and is hands-down one of the most fun ways to explore Curaçao’s rugged east coast. You can meet at the starting point or opt for hotel pickup (available for an extra fee), but either way, get ready for a dusty, off-road adventure.

After a quick intro and safety demo, you’ll jump on your ATV and cruise through everything from desert trails and rolling hills to quiet villages and remote lookout points with sweeping ocean views—you can even spot Bonaire in the distance on a clear day!

The route includes fun little stops at a local aloe farm and ostrich farm, plus plenty of time to take in the scenery and snap some photos. Our guide was amazing—super friendly, patient, and shared tons of cool facts about the island along the way.

Helmets are included, but we’d recommend bringing your own goggles or face covering if you can (otherwise they’re available to buy on-site). Lunch – Chill Beach Bar & Grill

After your dusty morning ATV adventure, you’ll be more than ready to kick back and refuel—and Chill Beach Bar & Grill is the perfect spot to do just that. It’s just a few minutes down the road from where the tour ends, and as the name suggests, the vibe is super relaxed and beachy.

This open-air, toes-in-the-sand restaurant is right on Mambo Beach, so you can enjoy ocean views while digging into a burger, some grilled shrimp skewers, or one of their signature sandwiches. The drinks are cold, the reggae is usually playing, and the whole place just screams vacation mode.

Grab a shaded picnic table, order a cold drink, and let yourself unwind a little. If you’re still feeling adventurous, there’s a small pier nearby you can wander down—or just lounge a bit before heading off to your next activity. 

Afternoon – Go snorkeling at Tugboat Beach

Once you’ve recharged with lunch, it’s time to grab your snorkel gear and head out for one of Curaçao’s most famous underwater spots—Tugboat Beach. Just a 17-minute drive from Chill Beach Bar, this laid-back beach is home to a sunken tugboat that now serves as an artificial reef, attracting all kinds of colorful marine life.

The tugboat sits in shallow, calm water just off the shore, making it super easy to reach—even for beginners. We spotted everything from parrotfish to eels swimming around the coral-covered wreck, and the visibility was incredible. If you didn’t bring gear, don’t worry—there’s a little gift shop right at the beach where you can rent snorkels and masks.

The beach itself is pretty quiet and rustic, with a chill, local vibe. You’ll find a few shaded areas to relax and maybe even some beach chairs to rent if you feel like lounging after your swim. There’s usually plenty of parking nearby, so it’s an easy stop to pull into and spend a couple of hours enjoying the water.

Evening – Grab drinks at Swinging Old Lady Brewery

After a full day of adventure, take a little time to head back to your hotel, freshen up, and relax. Once you’re ready to head out again, make your way to Swinging Old Lady Brewery for a casual pre-dinner drink.

This local craft brewery has a laid-back vibe and a great selection of small-batch brews made right on site. Whether you’re into IPAs, wheats, or something lighter and citrusy, there’s something on tap worth trying. The outdoor seating area is the perfect spot to chill out as the sun starts to set—plus, the name alone makes it worth a visit, right?

Dinner – De Visserij piscadera

From the brewery, it’s just a quick 10-minute drive over to De Visserij, one of the most beloved seafood spots on the island—and for good reason.

This no-frills, dockside restaurant serves up the freshest catch of the day in a super laid-back, canteen-style setting. You order at the counter, choose your sides (don’t skip the plantains!), and then grab a seat with ocean views while your food is cooked up fresh. The fish here is as fresh as it gets—we’re talking caught-that-day fresh—and grilled or fried to perfection.

It’s a casual spot, but the food is next-level, and it’s a local favorite for a reason. Grab a cold drink, enjoy the sea breeze, and end your day with an unforgettable meal. Just be sure to arrive early—this place gets busy! Also, take note that they’re closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, so plan accordingly and swap in another restaurant if needed.

Day 5

Morning – Go beneath the surface

It’s your last full day in Curaçao, and we’re ending things on a high note—underwater! This morning, you have two awesome options depending on your interests: try your first-ever scuba dive, or take a ride on a futuristic underwater scooter. Either way, you’ll get to explore Curaçao’s vibrant marine world from a whole new perspective.

Option 1 – Discovery Dive

If scuba diving has been on your bucket list, this 4-hour discovery dive experience is one of the best ways to give it a go—especially here in Curaçao, where the water is warm, calm, and crystal-clear. 

Unlike other intro dives I’ve seen, this one really sets you up for success. Starting bright and early at 8 am, you’ll start with a theory lesson and safety training, so that you’ll feel confident when you hit the water.

After a short skills session in shallow water, you’ll follow your instructor out to explore the reef at depths up to 40 feet (12 meters). Swimming through schools of tropical fish is pretty surreal, but the highlight for me was getting to dive down to the island’s famous sunken tugboat—it’s covered in coral and crawling with marine life. 

All your gear is included, and the instructors are super patient, friendly, and focused on safety. Whether you’re a total beginner or just need a refresher, this experience is such a fun, hands-on way to discover diving in Curaçao!

Option 2: Aquafari Adventure

If scuba diving feels a little intimidating—or you just want a shorter, more casual adventure, this Aquafari adventure is the way to go!

These cool underwater scooters let you explore Curaçao’s coral reefs without needing any dive training or fancy equipment. You just hop on, pop your head into the full-face helmet, and glide along beneath the waves. Breathing felt totally natural, and the whole experience was surprisingly relaxing once we got the hang of it!

The tour kicks off at 9 am with a 30-minute safety briefing at Boca Sami Beach before you cruise around underwater with a small group and a guide who points out all kinds of marine life. We saw loads of tropical fish and even a moray eel! The scooters are super stable and self-propelled, so you can just sit back and enjoy the views—no swimming required.

The entire experience lasts around 1.5 hours, making it a short and sweet underwater adventure that’s perfect for anyone wanting to see Curaçao’s sea life without diving deep—kids, non-swimmers, and nervous newbies included. It’s definitely one of the most unique tours we’ve ever done!

Lunch – Brgr Haus 

If you’re back in Willemstad and craving something quick but seriously satisfying for lunch, head to Brgr Haus. This local favorite is known for its juicy burgers, crispy fries, and creative toppings (the truffle burger is a must-try!). It’s the kind of place where you can grab a relaxed, tasty meal without spending a ton of time.

The vibe is modern and casual, with indoor and outdoor seating available, and service is fast—perfect if you’ve worked up an appetite after your morning adventure.

That said, if your morning or afternoon activities take you to a different part of the island, don’t stress about making it back here. Just find something nearby and easy—today’s all about making the most of your last full day in Curaçao!

Afternoon – Relax on the beach

After an adventurous morning, it’s time to wind down with some sunshine and salty air. Head back to your favorite beach from earlier in the trip, or check out one you haven’t made it to yet! Here are a few great options to consider:

• Mambo Beach – Just 10 minutes south of Willemstad, this is one of Curaçao’s most popular beaches—and for good reason! It’s got white sand, calm turquoise water, beach clubs, shops, and plenty of lounge chairs. Expect a lively atmosphere with lots of amenities.

• Jan Thiel Beach – About a 20-minute drive from Willemstad, this family-friendly beach has everything from restaurants and shops to watersports and shaded areas. It’s a great option if you’re traveling with kids or want lots of activity nearby.

• Blue Bay – Just north of Willemstad, Blue Bay is known for its stunning water clarity and excellent snorkeling. It’s a bit quieter than Mambo or Jan Thiel, and it’s our personal pick if you’re looking for a beautiful, relaxing beach day.

• Cas Abao Beach – A postcard-perfect beach with white sand, turquoise water, and good snorkeling. It’s a bit of a drive, but worth it if you’re up for a scenic adventure and want that true Caribbean escape.

• Kokomo Beach – Known for its iconic Instagram-worthy swing in the sea, Kokomo has a chill vibe, clear water, and a laid-back beach bar—perfect for a mellow afternoon.

• Playa Porto Mari – This beach is a snorkeler’s dream with calm waters and a double reef system. There are also some short hiking trails nearby if you’re still feeling active!

Dinner – Kome

For your final night in Curaçao, treat yourself to a special dinner at Kome, one of the island’s top upscale dining spots. Located in the heart of Willemstad, this stylish restaurant offers a warm, inviting atmosphere with a focus on creative global cuisine and fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

The menu changes often, but you can expect bold flavors, thoughtful presentations, and everything from handmade pasta to grilled local seafood. Pair it all with a signature beverage—you deserve it!

Cabana Beach Curaçao and Bonita Beach Club are two of the more popular options, but honestly, this whole stretch is filled with lounges and beach bars that are fun to explore. Whether you’re in the mood to dance under the stars or sip something fruity by the sea, it’s the perfect way to end your trip on a high note.

Courtyard by Marriott Curacao is a lovely stay for a moderate price point. Located in the heart of Willemstad, you can reach the best beaches and attractions quickly. The rooms are modern and upscale, just as you could expect from a Marriott hotel, and you can get poolside rooms, those with a sea view, or something more budget-friendly.

Budget – $

Bed & Bike Curacao is a fun and comfortable stay for budget-conscious travelers. This one is also located in Willemstad, and as the name would suggest, they offer bike rentals to easily access the city. You can book a shared dorm room or a private room; some even have private balconies. Private rooms start at $40 USD and dorms start at $24 USD per night.

Renting a Car in the Caribbean

Renting a car in the Caribbean gives you the freedom to explore beyond the resorts—think secluded beaches, remote viewpoints, and vibrant local towns that buses don’t reach. As long as you are prepared for the road conditions and informed about local driving rules, renting a car can be a great addition to your trip!

Tips for Renting a Car in the Caribbean

• Know the driving side: Some Caribbean islands drive on the left, while others stick to the right. It really varies island to island, so double-check before you go—and make sure you’re comfortable driving on that side of the road, especially if it’s different from home.
• Know the local driving rules: Road laws and signage can differ between islands, so it’s worth doing a quick check before pickup. Seatbelts are usually mandatory, texting and driving is typically illegal, and honking is often just a friendly heads-up. Expect low speed limits and shared roads—think scooters, pedestrians, and even the occasional animal—so stay alert and take your time!
