Kennedy Space Center isn’t just for space nerds—it’s for anyone who’s ever looked up at the sky in wonder. With so much to see, navigating it all on your own can feel overwhelming, which is why joining this guided tour can make the experience feel effortless. With add-ons like an airboat ride, lunch with an astronaut, or a behind-the-scenes bus tour, you can tailor your visit to be as immersive as you want.

The space center itself is part museum, part thrill attraction. One moment, you might find yourself staring up at the largest rocket ever flown, and the next, strapping into a liftoff simulation that lets you feel the rumble of launch beneath you. For a few seconds, you’ll almost believe you’re ready to ditch Earth and join the astronaut life.

The Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit is another favorite, offering an up-close look at the legendary shuttle along with more than 60 interactive displays. Standing beneath it, it’s easy to imagine what it would be like to launch into orbit and peer back at our planet from above.

Guided tours often include passionate experts who share insider stories that bring NASA’s history to life. There’s even a transport-only option if you already have tickets, but upgrading to include the private bus tour to restricted areas, or lunch with an astronaut, is worth considering.

No matter how you explore it, a visit to Kennedy Space Center brings space a little closer and delivers a day that’s truly out of this world.

2. Check out Disney Springs

Disney Springs in the evening Orlando Florida
Disney Springs is absolutely worth checking out!

When you’re ready for a break from parks and attractions, head to Disney Springs—easily the best dining and shopping district in all of Orlando. It’s completely free to enter, and the mix of live music, waterfront views, and nonstop street performances makes it feel like its own full-day activity.

We love wandering through the massive LEGO store, browsing Disney’s iconic shops, and grabbing a treat before catching one of the nightly outdoor shows. If you’re up for a little friendly competition, Splitsville Luxury Lanes is a great place to settle in for bowling, drinks, and a laid-back evening vibe.

For something a little flashier, swap the Disney scene for Universal CityWalk, another colorful entertainment district packed with themed restaurants, bright storefronts, and plenty to explore. Located across town from Disney Springs, it’s an easy drive and offers a completely different vibe with its neon lights and high-energy atmosphere. Play a round at Hollywood Drive-In Golf with its retro sci-fi theme, check out the EPIC Universe Preview Center, or browse for souvenirs as you wander past the lively shops.

Both Disney Springs and CityWalk offer an easy, low-stress way to enjoy great food, entertainment, and Orlando’s signature energy without buying a park ticket.

3. Ride an Airboat in Everglades National Park

When you need a break from Orlando’s crowds (and you will), the Florida Everglades offer a wild adventure just an hour away. They’re teeming with wildlife, but exploring them alone isn’t exactly an option. That’s why we booked this airboat tour, which took us deep into protected wetlands—without getting our feet wet.

With the wind in our hair and water rushing beneath us, we skimmed through the Everglades while our guide, Mark, pointed out alligators sunbathing along the shore, bald eagles soaring overhead, and wild boars lurking in the brush. His mix of expert knowledge and humor made the ride even more fun.

We also got lucky—spotting the elusive roseate spoonbill, a pink wading bird that looks straight out of a nature documentary. Honestly, if we hadn’t seen it ourselves, we’d have thought someone made it up!

Back on land, we explored Wild Florida’s Wildlife Park, home to over 200 animals, including lemurs, zebras, and even a friendly sloth. And, of course, we had to grab a photo with Fluffy, one of the resident gators.

If you’re hungry, upgrading to the half-day package gets you a barbecue lunch at the Chomp House Grill—because what’s an Everglades adventure without some smoked ribs?

This was our favorite tour near Orlando! It delivered the perfect mix of adrenaline, wildlife, and fun—and we’re not the only ones who think so. Just check out the thousands of 5-star reviews here to see why travelers love it!

4. Explore ICON Park

SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium in ICON Park

ICON Park is one of those places in Orlando where you can easily spend an entire afternoon without ever setting foot inside a theme park. Sitting right on International Drive, this open-air entertainment complex is anchored by The Wheel, a 400-foot (122-meter) observation wheel that gives you sweeping, panoramic views over the city. Tickets start at $38 USD, and the slow, smooth rotation gives you plenty of time to soak it all in—from downtown Orlando to the lakes and parks scattered across the skyline.

But The Wheel is just the beginning. ICON Park is loaded with attractions, including SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium, Madame Tussauds, and the ever-popular Museum of Illusions, each offering something totally different. It’s the kind of place where you can bounce from underwater tunnels to wax celebrities to mind-bending photo rooms all in one stop. You can also book your SEA LIFE tickets here and reserve your Museum of Illusions experience here, making it super easy to plan ahead.

When you need a break between attractions, the surrounding plaza is packed with restaurants, bars, and snack spots—everything from quick bites to sit-down meals. It’s a fun, easygoing way to mix great views, quirky attractions, and plenty of food all in one place.

5. See the Gators at Gatorland

Group of alligators at Gatorland in Orlando Florida
That’s a lot of gators!

If you want a true taste of classic Florida, Gatorland is the place to find it. This historic attraction has been welcoming visitors since 1949—long before Orlando became the theme-park capital it is today. It’s kitschy in the best possible way, blending old-school Florida charm with exciting wildlife experiences, making it especially popular with families.

The stars of the show, of course, are the thousands of alligators and crocodiles that call the park home. You can watch massive gators launch out of the water during the Gator Jumparoo Show, walk above dozens of them on the elevated boardwalks, or stop by the breeding marsh to see these powerful reptiles in a natural habitat. There are also birds, snakes, and other native wildlife, making it a surprisingly well-rounded stop for animal lovers.

Gatorland is open 10 am to 5 pm, and general admission costs $35 USD, making it one of the more affordable major attractions in Orlando. For even more thrills, you can upgrade your visit with ziplining over the gator ponds or a behind-the-scenes trainer tour. Whether you go for the shows, the wildlife, or a dose of Florida nostalgia, it’s a fun and memorable way to experience a different side of Orlando.

6. Explore Rock Springs in a clear-bottom kayak

The heat in Orlando can be relentless, but there’s a refreshing way to escape it—gliding through the pristine waters of Rock Springs in a clear kayak. This small-group tour took us into Emerald Cut, a stunning section of the river known for its blue-green water, lush tree canopies, and abundant wildlife.

With expert guides leading the way, we explored one of Florida’s most beautiful hidden gems without worrying about a thing.

Before we hit the water, our guides gave us a quick lesson on paddling techniques, so even beginners felt confident. After a few practice strokes, we were ready to go!

The adventure started with an easy upstream paddle, giving us plenty of time to soak in the scenery. Turtles sunned themselves on fallen logs, fish darted beneath our kayak, and birds flitted through the trees.

Our guides, Megan and Dany, made the experience even better—spotting wildlife, sharing fun facts, and keeping everyone at ease on the water. Their energy and passion made the tour feel like an adventure with friends.

Of course, the best part was jumping off the hidden platform! Floating in the cool, spring-fed water was refreshing, but taking the leap from the wooden platform added an extra thrill.

For nature lovers, this is a must-do experience. With kayaks and safety gear provided, all you need to bring is your sense of adventure—and a camera for the incredible views!!

7. Get an aerial view of Orlando on a helicopter tour

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle of Orlando—rushing from one place to the next, trying to fit everything in. But sometimes, the best way to take it all in is from above. That’s why we ditched the traffic and took this private helicopter tour, where every passenger gets a window seat and a whole new perspective on the city.

Lifting off, we soared over Old Town, Fun Spot America, and The Big Orange, with the city stretching out below us. Our pilot kept the ride smooth and shared fascinating tidbits about the area’s history and development.

As we climbed higher, we spotted the shimmering lakes and sprawling resorts of Walt Disney World in the distance. From up there, we could see Cinderella’s Castle, Spaceship Earth, and even the towering peaks of Expedition Everest. A view you’d never get from the ground!

Snapping photos from this angle was unreal—hotels, lakes, and entire theme parks looked tiny, and familiar landmarks felt brand new from above. The flight may have only been 8–10 minutes, but it packed in plenty of excitement. Between the thrill of flying and the unbeatable views, this experience was easily one of the highlights of our trip.

Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or just looking for a unique way to experience Orlando, this tour is worth it. There’s nothing quite like the rush of lifting off and watching the city unfold beneath you. Trust us—you won’t want to come back down!

When you need a peaceful break from Orlando’s fast-paced attractions, the Harry P. Leu Gardens is the perfect escape. Just minutes from downtown, this 50-acre botanical oasis feels worlds away from the city with its quiet walking paths, shady oak trees, and beautifully curated themed gardens. Admission is $15 USD, making it one of the best-value activities in the area—especially if you’re craving something calm, scenic, and outdoorsy.

As you wander through the grounds, you’ll find vibrant rose gardens, tropical displays, and seasonal blooms that change throughout the year. The towering camellias are a highlight in winter, while spring and summer bring bright pops of color across nearly every corner of the property. The pathways are easy to explore at your own pace, and many sections are shaded, which makes this a great option even on warm days.

At the center of the gardens is the historic Leu House Museum, a beautifully preserved 19th-century home that tells the story of the families who once lived on the property. (Note: the house is closed in July for maintenance.)

Whether you’re a plant lover, a casual walker, or simply someone looking for tranquility, the Leu Gardens offer a refreshing change of pace and a stunning slice of natural Florida.

It’s all about thrills in Orlando, but nothing gets your adrenaline pumping like conquering a real obstacle course—suspended high above the ground! Instead of roller coasters, we took on this small-group ropes course packed with swinging logs, zip lines, and wobbly bridges set 10–50 feet (3–15 meters) in the air.

Before we started, our guide, Nick, made sure we felt completely comfortable. He walked us through a mandatory demo course, showing us how to use our climbing gear and giving us a taste of the challenges ahead. Every time we hesitated, he had the perfect mix of encouragement and humor to keep us going, turning nerves into excitement!

The cargo nets wobbled beneath our feet, testing our balance with every step. The trapeze swings had us soaring through the air, gripping the ropes tightly before letting go and hoping for the best. And the ziplines were just the right mix of speed and height to make our stomachs drop before landing safely on the next platform.

With six courses and over 97 obstacles, every level of climber had something to push their limits. The best part? It’s more than just a workout—it’s an adventure.

If you’re looking for a fun, active way to switch up your Orlando vacation, this is it. Spots fill up fast, so book now and get ready to climb, swing, and zip through the ultimate treetop adventure!

Rolling down the windows and seeing zebras, bison, and wildebeest roaming just feet away isn’t something you’d expect in Florida, but that’s exactly what makes this drive-thru safari such a memorable experience. With over 100 exotic animals, a self-guided route, and the freedom to explore at your own pace, it’s an ideal mix of thrill and discovery.

Since you’ll be in your own car, you can pause whenever something catches your eye—snapping photos of a towering watusi, watching white-tailed deer dart across the fields, or laughing as the wildebeest wander closer, just as curious about you as you are about them.

One of the most popular add-ons is hand-feeding the giraffes. For an extra cost, you can stand eye-to-eye with these gentle giants and offer leafy snacks as their long, cartoon-like tongues wrap around the food.

Before heading out, many visitors also stop by Gator Park, home to more than 150 additional animals, including rescues from Florida’s nuisance alligator program. Seeing them up close—from a safe distance—adds an extra layer to the experience.

For a wild, up-close animal encounter that feels nothing like a traditional zoo, this safari is a standout Orlando activity, and your camera roll will definitely prove it!

13. Ride the swan boats at Lake Eola Park

The Swan Boats at Lake Eola Park

Right in the heart of downtown Orlando, Lake Eola Park offers one of the city’s most laid-back and charming activities—renting the iconic swan boats. These pedal boats glide across the calm lake and give you a fun, breezy way to enjoy the skyline. No reservations are needed, and rentals cost $15 USD for a 30-minute ride, making this an easy, affordable stop during your time in the city.

Once you’re back on land, take a stroll around the 0.9-mile (1.45 kilometers) loop that circles the lake. The path is flat, scenic, and dotted with shaded benches, public art, and plenty of real swans along the shoreline. It’s a great spot for a relaxed walk, especially in the morning or late afternoon when the temperatures are cooler.

If you’re visiting on a Sunday, don’t miss the Lake Eola Farmers Market, one of Orlando’s most popular weekly events. Local vendors set up around the park with everything from fresh produce and handmade crafts to hot food, plants, and live music. It’s lively without being overwhelming, making it the perfect pairing with a ride on the swan boats.

Whether you’re looking for a peaceful break or a classic Orlando photo moment, Lake Eola Park delivers an easy downtown escape.

Thrill rides and fireworks may steal the spotlight, but some of Orlando’s most intriguing stories emerge after dark. This downtown ghost tour took us through the city’s most haunted locations, where we learned eerie tales of the past and even got to use professional ghost-hunting equipment.

Our guide, Brooke, immediately set the tone. She was warm, welcoming, and balanced spooky stories with fascinating local history, making each stop along the way even more intriguing.

With K2 meters in hand, we wandered through historic streets, stopping at key locations to test for paranormal activity. The dowsing rods were even eerier—crossing or shifting seemingly on their own as we asked questions, making us wonder if we were really alone after all.

One of our favorite parts was Church Street Station, where tales of ghostly sightings had us checking over our shoulders more than once. Brooke shared the story of a woman in white, said to be seen drifting near the station late at night.

Just as she finished the tale, the wind picked up, rustling through the trees, and someone’s K2 meter spiked. Coincidence? Maybe. But in that moment, it felt like something—or someone—was there with us.

This interactive ghost hunt made us feel like true paranormal investigators. Whether you’re a skeptic or a believer, this tour is a fun, unique way to experience Orlando’s haunted history!

It’s a fun way to see how the world’s favorite sweet treat is made and to explore a working micro-factory in action.

The tour takes you through a fully operational facility where you can watch live demonstrations of everything from product assembly to packaging. One of the highlights is just how interactive the experience is. Instead of simply observing behind glass, you’ll have the chance to step into the process, try out certain tasks, and get a feel for what it’s like to work the line or operate the equipment.

Throughout the visit, a guide shares fascinating stories about American innovation and how modern manufacturing has evolved. It’s educational in a way that feels engaging rather than dry, and both kids and adults stay entertained the entire time. You’ll also get plenty of chocolate samples along the way—a definite bonus.

Because the whole experience is indoors and air-conditioned, it’s a great option for hot afternoons or rainy days. Whether you’re exploring Orlando as a family or simply want a unique break from the theme parks, this behind-the-scenes tour is a sweet change of pace.

  • Drive on the right: In the U.S., vehicles drive on the right-hand side of the road, and the driver’s seat is on the left. If this is different than your home country, take some time to adjust before hitting busy streets!
  • Know the local rules: Speed limits, road signs, and driving laws can differ between states. For example, turning right on red is generally allowed after a complete stop, unless a sign indicates otherwise. Always check the specific rules for the states you’ll be driving in.
  • Add full insurance: We always recommend full coverage rental insurance, especially in the U.S., where long distances, varying road conditions, and unpredictable weather can lead to unexpected situations. Discover Cars makes it easy (and affordable!) to add this peace of mind when you book.
  • Choose the right car: Consider the nature of your trip. For city driving, a compact car is convenient, while for road trips or national park visits, an SUV might be more comfortable. With Discover Cars, it’s easy to filter by vehicle type, transmission, fuel efficiency, and more to find the perfect fit.

What You Need to Rent a Car in the USA

  • A valid driver’s license from your home country.
  • An International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended if your license is not in English or uses a non-Roman alphabet. Some rental companies may require it, so it’s best to check in advance.
  • A credit card in the driver’s name is typically required for the security deposit.
  • Most rental companies require drivers to be at least 21 years old, with a young driver surcharge applicable for those under 25. Some companies may have higher age requirements, so make sure you double-check.

AIRALO e-SIM Up To 15% Off With Code “DTRAVEL15”

What’s an eSIM?

An eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card. Instead of buying a little plastic chip and swapping it into your phone, you just download it. It connects your phone to a local network in whatever country you’re visiting — no stores, no waiting, and no fiddling with tiny cards.

In simple terms, it’s the easiest way to get data and stay connected while traveling.

We’ve tested a bunch of eSIMs over the years, and after a few frustrating experiences, we’ve found our favorite — Airalo. It’s fast, reliable, and incredibly easy to use. You can set it up in minutes (even my mom managed it solo on her first try!), and the prices are some of the best out there.

💡 Bonus: We’ve got an exclusive 15% discount for our readers. Use the codes:
